    Varahicacos
Nature tourism, a product of growing demand in the International tourism market, has a promising site at the eastern end of the Hicacos Peninsula, with its rich natural diversity. A practical virginal zone, the area covers 31% of the total territory of the Peninsula and was declared an ecological reserve in 1974 in consideration of its exceptional natural botanical and fauna values. The area is home of the largest, most well preserved forest and coastal vating scenery.

    “Not Worth The Price/Effort ”
Obviously everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I am quite surprised that other reviewers were so impressed with this place. For starters, admission is 5CUCs/person, which is far too much for what you get. I've visited a similar ecological reserve in the Holguin area for cheaper and it was a lot better experience with more to see. Those with... More

    “Worth the 5 cuc ”
Good way to spend an hr. 5 cuc per person. You are given a map with some information. Wear a decent pair of shoes. I wouldn't suggest flip flops or sandals of any sorts. Bring bug spray. We saw lots of lizards. Lots of different kinds of plants. A few caves. It's about a mile long. Easy terrain. Ur not... More

    “Varahicacos Ecological Reserve ”
Our hotel, Memories Varadero, was located close to a section of the Varahicacos Ecological Reserve that has a small interpretive centre and nature trails. We were able to walk there in 20 minutes, but the site is readily accessible from the double-decker tour buses that ply the Varadero Peninsula. There is a charge of 5 CUC per person to enter... “Nice place!! ”
Everything was nice and comfortable, The only thing that I didn't like is that air conditioning was not working very well, besides that everything was perfect.

    “Small but nice ”
It's a very small reserve. You can get there but hop on bus, when you go out from the hotel to the main road, turn on the left and on the right side there is a bus stop. Ask for one day ticket and tell the person who sells the tickets you want to get off close to there. It's... More

    “Small but Interesting ”
Small, less than a mile long hike, but quite interesting. Lots of good spots to climb and take photos. The open top tour buses that run along 1ra Avenida will take you there (bus costs 5 CUC for a day) and the entrance fee is 5 CUC.

    “Great Trip ”
Although are excursion was a little rushed we loved the crocodile farm and speed boat ride to the authentic village which we were left a little disappointed with You walked through a traditional warrior house greeted had paint daubbed on your face then had to hand some money over!

“The Muslims Trail is Amazing ”
Our hike through the Muslims trail was a major highlight of our trip to Varadero. The ecological reserve is one of the few places in the area that has been preserved from the encroaching hotel industry. It has amazing plants and animals, so definitely worth the trip. The staff at the front entrance to the trail are very kind and... More
