  • Palacio de Valle is located in Cienfuegos

French émigrés from Bordeaux and Louisiana founded the settlement of Fernandina de Jagua on a large, calm bay on the Caribbean Sea on April 22, 1819. In 1830, when it was upgraded to a town, its name was changed to Cienfuegos, in honor of José Cienfuegos, the Governor-General of Cuba. Fifty years later, it was proclaimed a city and, for its beauty, was called "the pearl of the south." By the end of the 19th century, it had become the fourth most important city in the country.,

Considered the crowning jewel of Cuban architectural in the 19th century, Cienfuegos stands out for the perfect design of its streets and for the refinement and good taste of the buildings in the historic center of the city, which has been declared a national monument. When visiting, stop by the Casa del Fundador (the Founder's House); Nuestra Señora de la Purísima Concepción (Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception) Cathedral; the Tomás Terry Theater; the Ferrer Palace; and the José Martí Park, which contains the only arch of triumph in Cuba.,

Other attractions include the Prado Promenade, the Valle Palace, the museums of Naval and Provincial History, and the Reina (Queen's) Cemetery.,

Farther out from the center of the city, tour the Nuestra Señora de los Angeles de Jagua (Jagua for short) Fortress, the Tomás Acea Cemetery and the Botanical Gardens.,

In addition to these cultural and historic attractions, Cienfuegos has excellent facilities for scuba diving and other water sports, nature tourism and thermal baths.

“Beautiful, faded building with great views. Food not great. ”
Staying at the Hotel Jagua next door (one of the poshest we stayed in - fantastic 7th floor views) dinner was included here the first night. The setting and architecture is lovely, though plaster has fallen off the ceilings etc There was some nice music being performed during the meal. We were told a drink was included so left at... “nice to visit yet avoid dining there! ”
This is a beautiful building with Moorish decoration, we decided to have dinner there but it turned out to be a mistake! 1. Just after we got seated, a group of tourists from next door hotel came for dinner, it was noisy and crowded! 2. The food was the worst we had during our whole stay yet most expensive! All... More

      “Fascinating architecture ”
More akin to a palace in Morocco, it is still a fascinating building to see in Cuba. Didn't feel the need to pay the fee to see the whole building but nonetheless, interesting enough for a drive-by.

      “Relaxing visit ”
Well worth the 2CUC's each to wander round this old hotel and then sit and relax on the roof top terrace overlooking the bay with our free drinks.

“Be prepared to be enthralled ”
This former private residence is now an elegant restaurant. Even if you don't dine there, be sure to see the building and grounds. The architectural styles and craftsmanship are magnificent.

      “Great Views ”
I don't like state restaurants in Cuba, so I skipped the restaurant and went all the way to the bar. They did not charge me for the entrance. Up top I got the best pictures of punta gorda and the Cienfuegos bay.

“A night that will be remembered ”
Mad beautiful building in full Italian ice-cream-Gothic style, this is a must for a photo, let alone the the roof-top bar. We spent a very happy night up there sampling the various cocktails and eventually being dragged into enthusiastic but poorly executed dancing by some locals to a good band who were easily encouraged to continue with a few rum--based... “Beautiful architecture ”
You can enter the palacio and will be surprised by beautiful Moorish architecture. Take also a look at the rooftop and see the punta gorda from above. Our casa particulares was only 5 minutes walking from this building, bahía sol. Unfortunately not on tripadvisor, but so fantastic with sunset views on the bay!

“Most Beautiful Building in Cienfuegos ”
I've been here many times. I am always astounded at the beauty of this building. The food is mediocre and the prices relatively high but it is well worth a visit. The roof top bar is a nice place to hang out day or night.
