“Too many customer service issues ”
As this was my 6th time to Cuba alone the usual gripes would not faze me. I was however fazed with the customer service received during our stay. I traveled with my husband and son September 6-13 to wonderful cuba. After a lengthy but well driven 90 minute minute bus ride to the hotel we were all set to check in to our upgraded, prepaid spa vip package. This is to include express check in. No such luck. We thought that's okay, we will wait the 45 minute line. Once served we did not get put into one of the blocks allotted (ocean room) nor into a room with a full bathroom. Needed as my little toddler doe not take showers yet he takes baths and the upgrade promised both. After an hour discussion with the front desk a room was magically found. We spent the week enjoying the picture perfect weather, the beautiful grounds and the expected Cuban buffets and a la cartes. We booked a spa service and with our upgraded package are warranted a 15% discount. No record on their account that we have this upgrade even though we are wearing the bracelets. A 20 minute phone call to customer service and finally this is adjusted. Perhaps the most disappointing was the kids club. We wanted to drop off our son there for an hour so we could have a couples massage and so we went to see the facility the day before and meet with the staff. As my son played at the playground the staff never once got up to interact with my son and after about 10 minutes one of the staff members called me over. I went over and she asked me to go and get her breakfast from the buffet. I'm sorry I am a kind hearted person but I just observed your lack of attention to my son and then I am going to go on my vacation and get you breakfast? Why this all upsets me so much is that I have been traveling to Cuba since 1998 and have been the advocate for how beautiful the people of Cuba are. To have this many issues in terms of customer service makes this resort impossible to return to.

    “Not a 5 Star! ”
Just returned from a week at Playa Cayo Santa Maria. 3 hours from landing in Santa Clara to the resort in Santa Maria. People are AWESOME and you feel very welcomed and safe. Beautiful resort layout, and GORGEOUS beach. Rooms were very nice and big and 220v/110v with the exception of mildew smelling sheets and pillows. Food was NOT good. Fruits and vegetables had no taste, fish and meats were questionable with most items available for all 3 meals 7 days a week. Specialty restaurants were ok, but didnt stand out. My biggest issue was with the BEACH RESTRICTIONS. 6 of 7 days EVERYONE was restricted to no more than 20 meters out from beach. Which amounted to being allowed to wade out to your waste and play in the surf. The BEST they will alow is 65m out into the water. They claim they are concerned with undertow, BUT its just isnt the case. I am a BIG SWIMMER and love to snorkel. I have all of my own scuba equipment but went out and bought some slip on fins just so I could spend the week there soaking up the sun and swimming and snorkeling. No such luck and you get the added bonus of listening to the life guards constantly blowing their whistles whenever they actually turn around and look at the swimmers, from flirting with the guests! Its a REAL SHAME because its the MOST BEAUTIFUL beach we have ever been to. As well, there are jelly fish and people were bitten, which makes a person want to wear a mask and snorkel even more, I was able to get a cab ride down the road to access a public beach between resorts and was able to snorkel a beautiful reef with lots of fish. It was just before entering Melia Beuno Vista. With all that said, if THEY would be honest and CLEARLY outline such serious beach restrictions on all of their promotional sources, people wouldn't waste their time and money.
