“Do not ignore this review...will never return!”
Spent Oct 6-13 2014 at this resort. First day, at snack bar, we were told no vodka and no whiskey. Later found vodka at 24 h bar. No swim up bar. Pool was a welcome treat from the heat but not big at all. Would be awful in high season. A/C sucked (barely cool) and actually was off for about 5 hrs. Rooms/beds very dated. Thank god we take our own pillows!! Food..terrible!! Very few selections..ate pasta all week. Buffet area was hot. Flies every where. Fork in one hand and swatting flies with the other. I actually saw a cockroach crawling across buffet bar....Morning buffet ran out of bacon and eggs by 9 am one morning..they said "all gone". Frying grills were old a looked very dirty. Staff not friendly, I was ignored many times at buffet. The shows in evening were very good. We have traveled many times to Cuba..this is def the worst ever! They are changing to Iberostar at end of Dec..prices will change but I'm sure this place will not change one bit...WILL NEVER RETURN!!!!!

      “Do not go here! ”
Stayed first week of October. Rooms were disappointment, bathroom door never closed properly. Hot water, hopefully you get some! Staff not to helpful, and on the miserable side when you ask for something. Food is repetitive, if not soggy and leftover from the night before. The beach, rocks and five feet of sand and ocean very rough at times. Pool was nice for couple of days, then had a musky sewer smell for the next couple days. All in all not a very good experience. Had a few guests we met, and said the other resort close by (Sol Cayo Largo) was way better. They transfered the next day. Lucky fellow travelers. My recommendation, stay away!!!

Worst Worst resort EVERRRRRRR?. I have been to Cuba over 6 times but first time in Cayo Largo Playa Blanca? the hotel was so terrible the beach is the worst EVER?. The pool was soooo dirty and the worst part was the staff was sooooooooo rude we had to tip to get a cup of ice. We even complain to the manager and he didn?t even care. Yes it was cheap to go yes is CUBA I been so many time but really is not worth going to this report, the 24 hour snack bar was out of food at 12am and they had no beer no wine. The only positive thing was the food? not bad Do yourself a favor and do not go?.

      “Bad to Worse ”
It just kept getting worse and we were there 2 weeks. Trip Central and Hola Sun are useless and worse when you get back and complain. Would Never recommend or use either of them again. No water so no toilet flushing anywhere on resort no coffee, ice or clean dishes ect. The second week was worse as we again had no water but this also put the air out. On complain to Trip central and Hola Sun we were told that unexpected thing go wrong that can not be helped. That excuse is good for a few days but not for the major part of our trip. We aslso know people that went at the same time with a different travel company and got some of there trip reimbursed. No point in complaining down there because no one there cares as they already got thee money and they are the same when you get back.

      “NOT A BEACH RESORT! ”
This resort was one of the worse resorts have ever been to in cuba . I would have recommended for families with little kids because there is no beach in if you do get a little bit of beach the waves will topple all over you. I would spend the extra money and go to varadero. On a positive note there were two beaches that where exceptional Playa paraiso and playa sirrena these two beaches unfortunately you have to drive to from your hotel . That's the only thing that was good about the whole island . So my recommendation do not go there spend a little bit of extra money and go to varadero or cayo coco.

      “Rundown, poorly maintained Hotel! ”
There were five of us that went on this trip in Sep 2014 to Cayo Largo Cuba, all experienced travellers. For the price we paid the expectations were not high, however there is a limit! We had 3 rooms at the Playa Blanca Hotel, out of the 3 clean but poorly maintained rooms, our room turned out to be the most functional. 2 of the rooms had no closet doors or shelves to place your cloths on, there were no dressers so they had to use there suitcases to hold their cloths, 1 room had no air-conditioning or hot water, it took 3 days of complaining to the front desk to get it fixed and then it was hit and miss. Rooms are in bad need of renovations. The 1st day we went to the pool to relax, I was very disappointed to see a green tinge to the water, when I went in the pool it felt very slimy and I tripped over the liner that was coming away from the bottom of the pool, again we and most of the other guests complained to management, the next day they were in the pool cleaning it, didn't help the slim problem much. The beach at the hotel was none existent, there was no area you could place beach chairs or shade umbrellas, the waves came in to high and the red flag was up every day, even though the weather was excellent during the day, very dangerous to swim in. The best beaches on the island were on the other side of the island, unfortunately you had to take a shuttle to reach them that took approx 20/30 mins, those beaches had very limited resources, beach chairs in bad repair and umbrellas, you had to get there early in order to get a decent chair, the beaches on this side of the island are very beautiful and not dangerous to swim in, there is a canteen that serves food and drinks at extra cost to you. The food at the Hotel was repetitive, very plain and not a lot of variety, lots of canned/frozen vegetables and fruit. The 2 ala-cart restaurants indicate on the hotel website are actually the same open air venue, they just change the menu halfway through the week, from Caribbean to international. As for the entertainment what we saw of it was good we could not stay out side long due to all the bugs (mosquitoes, black flies, ect), my perfume for the duration of our stay was o'de off, as soon as the sun set the bugs were on you, very uncomfortable as there was no venue that was closed in other than the buffet area and it closed at 10:00pm. For a very small upgrade price and persistence on our part to our agent, we eventually change to a better maintained resort Hotel Sol Cayo Largo, 5 minutes away from Playa Blanca with pristine pools, better food and air-conditioned enclosures for nighly entertainment, we enjoyed the rest of our stay. All in all believe the negative reviews about Playa Blanca Hotel as I wish I had, a 2 star at best Run!!!!

      “Beautiful beach, terrible resort ”
This was our 5th trip to Cuba and have always stayed in 4 and 4.5 star resorts (remember, this is according to Cuban standards) so we thought we would try a 3.5 hotel to see what the difference is. WOW, never again. Disappointing all around, this complex only deserves a 2.5 rating! The resort is old and tired. The fountains around the complex weren't working and the water 'sculpture' outside the main dining room has been overrun by turtles and crabs. The rooms could were relatively clean but need a paint job, and new sheets and pillows. The main buffet was extremely disappointing. The food selection was minimal, and what was available was not refrigerated and mostly covered in flies. By the end of the trip I couldn't stomach is any longer and avoided it as much as possible. The ranchon was nice for lunch, they cooked fresh (?) fish, chicken, beef and pork, but again, there were items left out in the sun, such as butter, cheeses, and cold cuts, that I learned to avoid for fear of getting food poisoning. I really try to avoid traditional north american foods such as burgers and fries while in Cuba, but they were the least frightening items available at the complex. The a la carte restaurants are actually the beach bar and snack bar masquerading as dining rooms. Add cloth napkins and candles, and voila! The food was terrible and much of what was served seem to have been recycled from the lunch menu. The beach is the most beautiful beach we have seen in Cuba so far. The challenge is trying to swim. The waves are extremely rough, and definitely not child friendly. I would avoid this beach if you are travelling with a young family that wants to splash in the waves. The pool is not well maintained. It is a salt water pool and there was green algae bits floating around... ick. We took a trip to Playa Sirena, which is beautiful. But get there REALLY early if you want to get a beach chair. Our catamaran tour was nice. We visited the iguana island and stopped for snorkelling twice. The lunch on board was tasty, choice of chicken or lobster (I recommend the lobster). There are lovely beach villas being built at the complex, I just hope they improve the quality of the rest of the complex to match. All in all, I strongly recommend sticking to the 4-5 stars resorts in Cuba.

“Family Vacation, but we survived ”
This resort has good and not so good. We had 5 rooms booked. The rooms we were in were somewhat tired. The beds were not good quality. I stayed in the Bungalow as a single person. My fridge had some horrible mark on the outside which I could not clean off. It was not stocked at all ever. I had brought my own red wine to drink in the evening before dinner as their wine is ok but not exceptional. Luckily, the fridge worked. I didn't get water until the next day and that is all I got for the whole week was water in the room. My other family members expected a stocked fridge each day and they were told no only 1 time. The pools are salt water and dirty as there is no circulation and the poor pool guy tried as best he could but in vain. The air conditioning was hit and miss. no circulation in the buffet area some vents but poor air conditioning. Flies everywhere and some bite. Bug spray is required as many of us and the staff had many bites. Beach is beautiful but make sure you give a good tip or good luck they will bring you a chair but won't be happy. I gave one guy a rain poncho and he literally asked is that it? If you don't want to be worried about someone taking your towel bring your own otherwise you had to argue with the Management to avoid a 25.00 CUC charge. Food didn't expect much and glad I didn't omelettes were the best thing or toast. Canned fruit served, some pineapple, no bananas, passion fruit. Some food items were put out more than once if you ate it at lunch you ate it at dinner. Al la carte, they say they have 2. They do not. You get 2 times in the ONE they have. The food choices were typical and presented with some effort and each time were exactly the same. Some staff were tired and un friendly. Some of maids were lovely and the staff in the buffet were nice. The snack bar is your best bet to eat and you will grow tired of eating fries and pizza. Entertainment, the band was good, the dancers were good. The activities are the same every day and there is only volleyball in one of the saltwater pools. The pools are in poor condition and they are warm barely refreshing. The ocean is your best bet. It can be rough with the waves but much better. The sand is soft and deep so walking can be a workout. Some of the beach huts are in poor condition and if you go to late you will have trouble getting a decent one near the bar. There is no beer at the beach bar. Bring thermal mugs with you to keep drinks cold. They have a bus to the marina which is free and the market has a few vendors and a bar where you can buy beer etc. Taxi is 2 pesos per person. Weather was very hot and had some storms. The area near the theatre floods on the outside. My room was not what I expected for a bungalow. I never got anything stocked in my fridge. I did get a bottle of water each day. The beds in all our rooms were quite tired. We checked for bed bugs due to this. We saw small bugs in our room. I sprayed my room with the bug spray I brought with me. We had some less than friendly bar staff at the 24hour bar. They seem to make up their own rules depends who is working. No fans in that area either around the bar which they could use. Power went out several times and no water on 1 day for several hours. If you want a quiet place and you don't expect to much than this is for you. If you want more I would not recommend this place.

      “Horrible! ”
I went for a week from the 30th of June to July 7th. I would've written a review earlier but i am trying to forget it ever happened. Let's start with check-in- It was very swift and quick, no issues there. The welcome drink was delicious. They put us in a "very nice room" (his words, not mine). And it was a very nice, wonderfully air conditioned bungalow not too far from the beach. I had gone to wash my hands and all that came out was pure BLACK dirty water. I screamed because i had no idea what was going on, which prompted my girlfriends to come check and see for themselves. We went down to front desk, long story short, the manager REFUSED to move us, or even check to see what the problem was. His only explanation was that we were on an island, it was normal, and all i had to do was leave the water running for 2-3 minutes??. Well, then, not wanting to ruin a vacation, we did just that and prayed we wouldn't get an infection of any sort. The next day, after 2 out of the 3 of us took a shower, the water wouldn't shut off. We tried twisting and turning and nothing, the water refused to go off. So we went back to front desk and told the manager the problem, about 30 minutes later the repair man came and tried and he couldn't help. So, after about an hour the manager tells us they're turning the water supply off in our room. Which meant, no showers, no washing hands, no flushing toilets? How were we supposed to do anything? He was not budging on moving us, instead, he offered me a courtesy room to use since I was the only girl who didn't get to shower. It was all down hill from here guys. I don't want to go into any more detail, needless to say, we were moved into another room. The manager here needs some customer service training ASAP! The food: it's cuba, it's not the best. There are flies EVERYWHERE in the buffet, touching every single piece of fruit and vegetable. Me and my girlfriends survived off of chicken sandwiches and fries at the snack bar. BUT SHOW UP RIGHT AT 12:00 when they open, because they sold out really fast! and half the week they had no french fries! OH, and the a la carte's are the exact same (cuba and international), Literally, the same meals. Their creole soup is actually a version of chicken noodle, no spice no nothing, so don't go into it hoping for an authentic cuban dish. The beach: impossible to swim in, extremely dangerous. Red flags every single day. The waves are ridiculously strong. Make a day trip of it and catch the free shuttle to the other beaches- VERY much worth it! it's a beautiful beach where they serve coconut drinks! The entertainment: IDE, bless your heart, You would go far and probably have a lot more fun at another resort with actual people in it. He was the only entertainment staff to actually interact with guests. He does most of the games and hosts the nightly shows. The games were kind of?..boring, to be honest (for ex, guess the amount of straws in the container, and some other kiddy things). Anyways, they did a dance about 4 times a day, where they all look so miserable doing it. The shows at night are okay?. The grounds: I am surprised nobody mentioned all the damn crab everywhere. They were more afraid of us than we are of them, yet, they're everywhere! Especially at night! Also, the groundskeepers leave big black garbage bags all over the grass and right next to the doors, it brings down the look of the resort! Anyways, this resort is dead, nobody here. I heard a man complaining and demanding to be moved to a different resort, i felt the exact same way. I've been to Varadero, and at least then could you leave the resort, mingle with the locals and shop, eat something, check out Havana, etc. You can't do that here. You're on an island outside of Cuba, there are 2-3 shops. Nothing else. Wednesday night go down with the entertainment staff to the local club. They play spanish music all night and teach you how to dance. it was a lot of fun. The friday night was a block party, but it rained so we didn't get the full experience. Just think twice before booking here. If you're torn between this place and somewhere else, choose somewhere else!

      “A bit below standard. ”
We typically book resorts between 3.5 to 4.5 stars throughout the Caribbean. This one is a bit below what you'd typically find - even for Cuba. We made the best of it and enjoyed our week on the beach, but you can get a better quality resort for the money you'll pay here. (Even considering the rock bottom prices) . Pros Beaches are beautiful - White powdery sand, turquoise blue waters. The waves are a bit rough on the beach attached to the hotel. This wasn't a negative for us - we actually enjoyed having some surf to play in. We did get mostly yellow flags the week we were there. There are a lot of freshly made choices for food available - Opalino by the pool makes fresh burgers or sandwiches during the day, you can get fresh omelettes in the mornings, and the resort has a number of pizza ovens. The bar drinks and coffee were of good quality. There is a small bar on the beach for convenience as well. Free shuttles to the marina where there are some vendors, and other activities. The transfer to Playa Sirena beach is also free. (By the way - There's not really much in the way of excursions here) Cons Some of the grounds and amenities are pretty poorly maintained. Fountains are filthy and/or not operational at all. Tennis courts/basketball nets are unusable - they appear to have been demolished in a storm or something and not repaired. The life size chess boards are missing pieces. The week we were there, the kids couldn't play ping pong after the first day because the ping pong ball was broken and there were no others. Pool is dirty - there was a ring of scum around one of the pools the entire week we were there that easily wiped off with your finger. Resort frequently runs out of things. (All sorts of things - beer, french fries etc). They also ration some things, like the water for your room. We resorted to filling up our bubba containers at night with water from the buffet or bars, because the hotel enforces a one bottle per room policy. Internet is extremely expensive. It costs 8 dollars an hour to connect via their wireless, and you can only access it in the lobby. If you need contact with the outside world, this resort probably isn't a good option. Buffet - There are a few good options in the buffet, but the variety isn't very large and be prepared for many dishes made out of hot dogs. Rooms - No problem with the room cleanliness, the maids took good care of cleaning. However I wished I'd listened to some of the comments from other reviewers about the sheets and pillows. The pillows are kind of odd - they are like long neckroll pillows. The sheets are also very pilled and scratchy.

“Poor visit in April 2014 ”
Stayed here during the first week of April 2014, in the 2-story 'studio' unit. There were many positives and negatives to my stay. If you're considering this resort please note: Pros: - Nice resort layout, - Staff were very accommodating and polite, and there's a great management team. - Resort was kept very clean, and secure. - Food selection at buffet had impressive variety. - Price of this resort is lower compared to others at Cayo Largo. Cons: - At this hotel, there's a narrow beach with very strong waves/undertow that don't make it ideal for swimming (permanent red flag posted). The hotel does accommodate for this by offering complimentary transit (bus & boat shuttle) to some amazing beaches, but these are pretty far away, (depending on the wait at the marina, give or take an hour each way). - During my stay, there were main water shut-offs to the resort on most days. These were for many hours, and effected hotel rooms, common areas, bars/restaurants... everywhere. This was a huge negative for my trip. - There was shortages of basic bar drinks. Beer, red wine, liqueurs... these all ran out several times during the week, (usually by mid afternoon), but were restocked eventually. Coffee was unavailable some mornings due to their machine breaking down. All in all, we made the most out of this trip. Unfortunately I felt that this wasn't one of my better stays in beautiful Cuba.

We did not like this resort food was the worst ever. First 3 days no burgers in the snack bar and most of the menu was burgers, Staff not very friendly only a handful were pleasant. Entertainment was soso just got boring after a few days same thing over and over. When we had the meeting with the lady from the resort most of the info she gave was wrong we were told 2 el a cart restaurants (Cuban food and international food) no only one (the food there was not bad though) Also times for the buses and boats were way off left waiting 1/2 to an hour longer then told. For a few days the pool filter system was off so little scary for swimming. 2 days no water. All and all tried to have a good time cause we were there weather was beautiful and beaches were pretty. Would go back to Cayo Largo but would stay at a different resort.

Was there on the 1st too the 8th of September weather was fantastic rainstorms at night. MUST take OFF with deet as strong as you can get . The Mosquitos at night and morning and the black flies through the day. You cant buy anything that works there so take it with you. The price was right. I travelled with 2 friends we all had a bungalow each ground level ocean view the rooms were tired but was ok. The food was good, the service was excellent, and the people we met were the best. The only down fall was the REPEAT GUEST ISSUE, You had to constantly ask for your repeat guest invitation to the special dinner of lobster. and the bottle of rum. It should have been in your room on arrival some repeat guests were told there invitation was in there room or being delivered when there was none. And on the night of the dinner were told to come back in 15 min to see if some people did not turn up. This was bad. I didn't need a 4 dollar bottle of rum but it was the run around and the advertising. Some really sweet ladies we met moved to the Sol hotel as the pool was in poor repair but we were in the ocean all the time so it didnt bother us. I would go back again no problem. Iberostar take over in November.

“Basic amenities but amazing staff made our trip great!”
Long overdue review. We traveled to Gran Caribe Playa Blanca December 26 - Jan 2, 2013 with our 4 kids (ages 8 - 16). We had basic rooms beside each other (not adjoining) each with 3 single beds, which made it a bit tight for space. Facilities are OK. You get what you need, but that's it. The kids weren't overly impressed. That being said, we were hardly in our rooms so it didn't matter much. Our housekeeper was the same wonderful woman all week. Such a gem, always greeted us with a smile and "have a great day"! Food: None of us went hungry. Lots of choice at the buffet. Lunch/snacks were adequate, but not great. The restaurant by the beach had the best food while the snack bar near the pool had very limited choices (always out of french fries) and slow service. We did one a la carte and it was OK but we decided we preferred the time flexibility and choice of the buffet. Breakfast omelette station was a big hit with our crowd as was the supper pasta station. The wait staff at the buffet was really, really lovely! We tried to sit in the same area so they got to know us and we were treated very kindly. Drink: No wait staff at the pool and no swim-up bar, but I figured walking to the bar was the only exercise I was getting, so it was fine :) The bartenders were reasonably efficient (for Cuba) and friendly. Beach: Not good for swimming, no water sports etc. We did venture in a couple times for the fun of being tossed around in the waves, but we kept our 8 year old within arm's reach as the waves were a bit dangerous if you were past waist deep. We took the shuttle/boat to the off-site beach which is stunning! And it was fun to travel there but I'd have preferred a resort where pool and beach are all together. Our girls did the dolphin swim and loved it! Our youngest had her hair braided in the salon/spa and was treated very nicely, really enjoyed the experience. We paid for Wi-fi and it was spotty (tragic for teenagers! LOL!). Worked in the lobby and sometimes by the pool but not in our room at all. Pack pool toys etc as the shop at the resort has no supply of them and not a lot of anything else. All in all we had fun but I wouldn't return. The friendly and caring staff was the true high point for us, while the amenities were just adequate.

“It's all about the beach ”
This was my third trip to Cayo Largo del Sur and staying at the Playa Blanca Resort. This is a very special island. Unfortunately each time I go I see the hotel in more disrepair and the shuttle to and from the off site beaches more dysfunctional. The hotel is tired. The rooms are clean but need a renovation. The food is just fine. A bit repetitive but plentiful. The hotel beach is always "red flag" so to swim you must take a bus or taxi to Playa Sirena or Playa Paraiso which in my opinion deserving of the top ten list of beaches. The problem is that the beach chairs are few and in disrepair. Also to travel back and forth from the hotel is so dysfunctional. The road is in very bad shape. And because it is off site, one must purchase drinks and food. The highlight of the trip was going to the beach at night and watching the sea tortoise come out of the sea to lay their eggs. Also participating in the release of the newly hatched baby tortoise was an experience of a life time. Another "must do" is taking the day or sunset cruise to the natural beaches, Iguana Island and snorkelling with hundreds of tropical fish. Worth the extra fee. I wish they could figure out the transfer to and from the nice beaches, and provide enough chairs and shade palapas. For this reason I would find another resort with good swimming on site. For the money, can't complain. I certainly wouldn't pay more than $600.00 for the week here. It's cheap, for good reason. Keep your expectations to a minimum. Go for just a quiet beach holiday and you won't be disappointed. It really is a very pretty place. And only ten minutes from the airport. That is a bonus.

“Not so great but the staff is lovely! ”
BEACH: The most annoying thing about this hotel is that you can not swim at the beach directly on the hotel site... You need to take the bus that takes you to the village and then take a boat to reach the beach! The best option is to pay 5 CUC and take a taxi... Go early because there won't be enough palapas and chairs for everyone! All the chairs are broken. But the beach is juste great! It has been voted in the top 10 of the most beautiful beaches! You can also swim with the dolphins! We did and it was a lot of fun! Be sure to go take a walk along the beach, we saw a lot of starfishes! At the village, there is a turtle farm that you can visit for 1 CUC by person. It is lovely and you can take the turtles, kiss them if you want to. Leonardo is such a nice guy! FOOD: It's just okay without more. I was a little bored at the end of the week and could not take no more. ENTERTAINMENT: Great! They really have great musicians, especially the singer in the group Classicos Pineros, he has a magnificient voice! And they also have great dancers at the shows, the night entertainment is great! I think music is the best thing about this resort. OHH ! I almost forgot, there is a disco at the village on all wednesday nights: YOU NEED TO GO! Dancing outside with the sky full of stars, and videoclips projected on big screens is just the best thing! We had a lot of fun this night, tourists and cubans go along just fine! ROOMS: Old fashioned, decoration needs to be revisited. But our room was always clean. AC was working but we needed to move our bed to feel the air. OVERALL: If you pay less that 550$ for a week, I would consider going. But if it is more expensive that that, plan going somewhere else. It does not worth it. Depends on your budget!

      “Clean, quiet, ADULT hotel”
Stayed here for a week in March as a family of 3. Transfer to hotel was fine, nice bus with AC. One guy working the front desk so check in took about an hour but the band was playing and the bar was open! Older hotel, needs some love but we knew that when we booked. Room was standard, very clean, no bugs, old beds. AC was broken for our entire stay and after several complaints to the front desk we just gave up. Later found out that the AC was broken in the entire hotel area. Pools were below average for us. Lots of nudists!! We were quite shocked, but this island is know for that, we just weren't expecting it to be on the entire beach. If you are offended by old, wrinkly men this is not the place for you!! They are everywhere baring it all! This was our first trip to Cuba but have travelled to the Caribbean several times. Food was ok, nothing special but always found something, even for my 2 year old. Drinks were great, coffee at the bar in the morning was exceptional. Loved the marina. Feeding the fish was lots of fun for my son. We loved the turtle farm too, it's not to be missed in my opinion. Hotel staff was a bit snooty, especially the ladies in the gift shop. I chose to do my shopping at the marina, same selection but happy, friendly people. We took the boat out to the other beaches a few times, not the best with a little one but beautiful non the less. Shows were cheesy as always but the staff works so hard we tried to show are support. All in all, for what we paid(1650$ Canadian for the three of us) it was about we expected. Any questions, just message me.

“Beautiful White Sand Rugged Beach ”
Stayed at this hotel over New Years 13-14. Stayed in room in the hotel section. One side of hotel has green views over island, the other faces the resort and ocean. Many hotel rooms have great ocean views and breezes. We had 3 rooms, and 2 of them leaked in some way from the ceiling. The rooms were tidy and clean but definitely not immaculate. The pillows really are an issue - there aren't "normal" pillows - they are like lumbar pillows (long skinny rectangle) being used for sleeping pillows. If we ever return here, I will definitely pack some. It's worth it. We aren't really pool people, and barely went in. It also wasn't the cleanest pool around (we spent 1 day over at the Sol Cayo Largo and it had a clean, lovely, pool area w/pool bar and trees and loads of loungers). The beach at the resort must be reached by a few stairs. If you have mobility issues, this is likely not the best resort for you. There is a bigger stair case out right in front of the pool area of the resort where the beachside restaurant. The beach is absolutely beautiful. White sand, turquoise waters... and I love that there are rugged rock mini cliffs along the beach - made it feel like a remote paradise. There were just enough chairs and palapas, and thankfully there was a many down at the beach who dusted off the chairs in the morning and brought them to the palapa of your choice (don't forget to tip this awesome man - the service he provides makes coming to the beach much more enjoyable!). Keep in mind the water can be very rough here - gigantic waves where folks were getting hurt. We are used to big surf, and found we were counting the waves to figure out when the set would be done and there would be a window when it was safest to try exit the water. For the lucky viewers on the beach - it took off many a swimsuit and made folks accidental nudists. Many of the servers at the buffet are lovely and attentive. The biggest challenge of the week was trying to book in at the a la cartes - the booking desk has very limited hours and there was quite the line up every single day (like almost an hour - what a waste of time in Cuba!). We only made that mistake once and spent the rest of the week at the buffet. We liked that Cayo Largo was a small island - and had many cheap or free "excursions". You could take the trolley into town to take the boat to the Playa Sirena, or just hang out in town, or take a scooter or a car down the island away from the resorts to quiet beach areas. We took a car to Playa Paraiso, which was beautiful (though sulfur-y). I'm not sure I would go back for a planned holiday... but seeing it comes up on sale sometimes (like this July for $500 CAN from YYZ), I could see us returning to Playa Blanca for a spree holiday. If we were planning a vacay return to Cayo Largo, I think we might splurge the few hundred extra bucks and stay at Sol Cayo Largo for the better food, grounds, etc. Lastly, yes, lots of nudity here. The line between the "nudes" and the "prudes" was very fuzzy. Didn't bother us, but there's always some indignant traveller huffing and puffing about it.

      “Interesting stay ”
My mom and I just got back from this resort a few days ago. I can't really complain that much considering we got it for $560 a person, but I've been to many 4 & 5 star resorts and this claims to be a 4 star but definitely is not. The hotel is run down, and outdated but luckily everything was super clean. The staff was not very friendly or helpful, which is alittle odd because usually staff at resorts bend over backwards so they'll get a tip. The food was probably the best food I've had in Cuba yet, mostly the a la carte restaurants. The beach was super nice, although the waves were pretty big, the water was still warm and we luckily had good weather. It was kinda alarming at first though because we didn't realize the whole beach was clothing optional. To conclude, even though the resort definitely wasn't 4 or 5 star, we made the best out of our time there and ended up having a pretty good week. I would recommend the club/disco on Wednesdays because that was really fun, and also the catamaran day trip! It went to iguana island and snorkelling and a natural pool which was easily the most breathtaking place I've ever been to, the pictures don't do it justice but I think that day trip is enough for me to come back to Cayo largo.

LOCATION: situated in a beside one of the nicest beaches in Cayo Largo, shuttle buses avaliable everyday to take you to ther destinations. HOTEL CONDITION: you get was you pay for, it's obviously not a posh kind of place. but it was kept fairly clean and the AC was working just fine. We did however had a 1 or 2 water shortages during mid-day. STAFF/SERVICE: all the the staff was super friendly and the cleaning maids were super cute with their extravagant towel folding skills. XD

      “I'll give it 3.5 stars! ”
My partner and I stayed at this resort in May and had a great time. The entertainment team are energetic and fun. We didn't decide on this resort for luxury - since there really are no luxury resorts in Cuba. No matter where you stay in the country there will be canned-something. We decided on this resort due to its location: secluded Cuban island in the Caribbean Sea. The beaches are out of this world; it feels like you are on an island all by yourself and that to me is luxury. Though the beach in front of the resort was heavily damaged by a recent hurricane you will find a path to a beach on the left side of the resort which has a beach bar. The beach is nude so you may or may not wish you were blind at times! Kidding. It felt great to bare all on the beach - it felt almost primitive. The beach bartender is handsome and very nice. Coffee at this resort is best enjoyed in the bar near the pool. Food was okay - too much cooking oil - but that was to be expected. The people of Cuba and lush unspoiled surroundings far outweigh any issues with food. Drinks were always plentiful. There were a lot of francophones at this resort which made communicating with fellow travellers difficult - but everyone had a good time. Our room was in the main building on the second floor. We booked with selloffvations and the tour operator was TMR based in Montreal. TMR offered something called a "companion program" and you do tend to get a great room and extra perks. However we found the "coupons" useless - Cubans don't know what coupons are! The a la carte restaurant with the thatched roof has amazing beef! Pizzas are also great to eat if you are craving your Canadian way of life. With regards to a "water issue" discussed in some posts I can say this: we did experience an evening with no water to flush or shower and a full day with no water. I was hesitant because I immediately thought - "where's the sanitation." However we pulled through. Had we experienced a full week of off-again on-again water issues I would have been upset. Like all of Cuba - this resort needs a pick-me-up. Fresh paint and new furniture is needed. The lobby is beautiful and tends to get breezy so be careful when changing Canadian for peso bills during the wind. Enjoy yourselves - I know with confidence that a person looking for sun and sand will thoroughly enjoy this piece of heave on earth called Cayo Largo.

I just came back from Playa Blanca in Cayo Largo, Cuba, and had a wonderful time. It is a hotel for relaxing, and I mean RELAXING, since you are in a secluded island. The best part was the turtle nursery, they really deserve my respect and admiration. The hotel staff was up to par. The only thing I found so-so was the food, except for the pizza, which was good. I am definitely going back!!!

This place really surprised me and my girlfriend. We didn't expect that much really but the hotel, staff and the views amazed us! The rooms are nice & tidy (Cuba standard) the staff was very helpful and friendly expect one girl in the reception that was only working nights.. However, good and big breakfast. Different lunch options with a lot of dishes to choose between and with a very nice evening buffè. Regarding the options of activities I can't say that much. When we arrives here me were only looking for som totally relaxation and to be spoiled for a couple of days.. And hotel succeeded to give us just what we were looking for! :) The beach is nice but keep in mind there is no room for snorkeling since it's so many waves, a good idea is to rent a scooter and go all over the island, it's totally worth it! :) I really don't have anything bad to say about this place.. (except the grumpy girl in the reception)

Yes, they were flies everywhere and foods outside the buffet were melting but its normal.. Its cuba, you cant expect anything perfect. Just be careful and choose the right food that is neat. Its a small island of 25 km long, of course there arent many shops around the town. But the ambiance was relaxing and very calm. Beaches are absolutely beautiful, waves are rough for real though. For a very first time, i say go for it. I didnt have any problem.

“We had a lovely time here, very quiet! ”
We went to Playa Blanca at the end of June 2014. We found this resort lovely and the staff (except for the staff at the snack bar) quite friendly. The bartender at the beach bar was a really nice fellow and his English is great. The masseuse was amazing. My daughter got her hair braided and as a braider myself I can say she did an exceptional job. My maid was so friendly and courteous i wanted to hug her every day. The food was repetitious but fresh and tasty. We had chicken, pork, beef and fish every day. The breakfast chef making omelets was awesome and my kids had fresh made pizza or past every night. They also grill the meat right in from of you. About the island, there are I think 6 resorts on this island. No Cubans actually live here but the workers do have living quarters close to the town. The little town was specifically geared to tourist and had a few shops, a bank, a marina bar, a little playground and a disco. Cute! The beaches are out of this world... they are so beautiful you won't believe they are real. The beach at the hotel was extremely rough, I would not recommend you take young kids there... Actually to be quite honest, adults shouldn't chance it either. You can take a free shuttle to the Marina and a lovely 10 min boat ride to a nicer beach playa Serena and from there its about a 20 min walk to the calmest most beautiful beach you have ever seen playa Paradisio. It is a sheltered bay so there are no waves and it is shallow all the way out, perfect for kids. There is a road that goes from Playa Serena to Playa Paradisio. We tried walking along the "shore" with kids and it was a treacherous 30 min walk. Please walk along the road or take a taxi! You can also take a taxi from the hotel for 2 pesos a person, wish we had known that sigh. We went snorkeling for about 15 per person and that was amazing. Speak to the guy on the boat that takes you over to playa Serena. My partner and I also rented scooters for about 15 for 3 hours, that was fun. other than that, there is literally nothing else to do on this beautiful paradise island but relax, swim and eat. If you like lots of people and exciting night life and exploring Cuban towns this is not the place for you. if you need to leave all your stress behind and relax this is the place!

      “Safe and Quiet place ”
Cayo Largo is beautiful. The beaches are breathe taking. I have traveled on many continents and never have I seen beaches like these ones. It is a safe quiet place to visit. There is absolutely no danger around the resort and everywhere on the island. It is a tourist island and we all feel like it is our own by the time we leave. The Beach (at the hotel) Eventhough it is quite rough, it is still beautiful. The waves are bigger than at the other beaches but if you pay attention it is safe. YOU HAVE TO GO TO PARAISO BEACH! The resort Yes it is old but the rooms are big and always clean. They should put fans in public areas (restaurant, bar, lobby) The pool The pool was the only disapointed aspect of the trip. One of them was green throughout my stay and the other one did not look very clean either. A pool bar should be concedered because the bar is quite far from the pool. The party life There is one discoteca. On mondays it is the retro night. A lot of the workers meet there after work. It is fun to mix with them. The white party is a must. It is outside, there is a big screen and the music is good. Thursday night the discoteca is closed... it is by the water where you can talk and drink (not a lot of people go out that day) Te amo Cayo Largo!!!

The hotel was very clean and well kept. The grounds or beautiful lots of palm threes and flowers. The garderners are very friendly and they even offer us aloes vera for our sun burn... The staff is very nice always smilling and giving jokes.THE BUFFET next to the beach is very good you have choice of your meat like chicken , beaf, fish, pork and then you take the rest at the buffet they a good variety of dishes. The vue is amazing! The resto next to pool have fries and burgers ect was good to.The main buffet is also good but wacht out for flies go early when the food is still coverd. The pool is not the best, they have a hard time keeping it clean. The beach is very beatiful but danger the waves are strong you could swim but eventually you will go under...and loose your glasses and bikini like most of us did...even one lady got her arm injured.Take the bus and boat to sirena are a taxi to paraiso they are calmer but they have waves.Cayo largo is not the best for kids under 10 the ocean is very strong...The taxi for paraiso coast 2 $ per head if more then two person going, we always found others to go...The food is good but a lot got sick so bring immodium and gravol. The best room are the bungolow , resort is small and compact and very calm. The shows are good very profesional and they have lost of party at the marina you take a taxi to go their.Lots of peoples from the sol complained to us so they will go to playa blanca next time so ...the sol don't have close in resto at all so lots of bugs and food leaft in the eat for a long time , plus they said the rooms are getting very old.I think playa blanca is a very good choice and enjoy playa paraiso instead of the hotel beach.

      “Breathtaking !!! ”
My husband and I just returned from Playa Blanca in Cayo Largo after a 2 week stay. June 9 to June 23, 2014 The resort is lovely, well maintained and colourful. Our room was 2313 and a joy to walk to and from all the amenities. We could see and hear the ocean. Breathtaking !!! The food was delicious as always. Fresh whole foods as nature intended. I am not a fast food eater, no fries or burgers for me. I love the salads, fresh fruit ,beef ,pork, chicken or fish.I don't drink. I love their bottled water. And of course their fabulous coffee. The entertainment group did their best. The first week we were there, we loved the main lobby area. It was a great place to enjoy the beautiful breeze, and meet other travellers. We would linger for hours. There were no mosquitoes or flies which was a bonus. After the tropical storm that occurred, the lobby area was out of bounds, you couldn't sit there past 8:00 pm The mosquitoes and flies were fierce. The airplane started spraying their pesticide. My husband and I were caught in that spray. It was awful. Hard to breathe and instant headache. We also went to Playa Sirenis. It was beautiful. I even came across a tree growing NONI fruit. That was awesome!! The Ranchon restaurant at the resort was a great place to eat. Friendly, service always. Wonderful, tasty food. So nutritious and delicious. The beach and ocean were beautiful. We had wonderful, adventurous walks on that long stretch of beach. Captivating !! We really enjoyed our stay at Playa Blanca. We will definitely go back.

      “Very Relaxing Vacation ”
I am a little late with this review since I went to this resort last August with my boyfriend. The check in went smoothly and quite fast. We were greeted with drinks and lovely dancers. This little resort has crabs walking everywhere once the sun sets down and it is really interesting to see them everywhere. Rooms They are run down like other people say but are quite decent, I mean you wouldn't spend your days inside the rooms anyways so it doesn't really matter. AC was working fine and the maids cleaned the rooms every single day. Food At the buffet - repetitive, but once again it's Cuba but there was many choices for us to choose from. The food at the snack bar (where you would also have lunch instead of having it at the buffet) is absolutely delicious. JUAN is the best waiter ever and will go out of his way to serve anyone (he sure got a lot of tips :)). Service The maids were very friendly but can't say that for everyone else. There are a few exceptional people but a lot of employees seemed to have straight faces on, especially at the bar.. which is okay, they weren't rude just not super nice either (if I had to work in that heat 24/7 wearing long pants and dress shirts, I don't think I would be a happy camper either). During the time we were there, some of the night entertainment crew were really annoying and suggested to us and other people to leave them something we were wearing etc. You could tell which ones were sneaky, but the ones who didn't ask are the ones who were given gifts :). Beach The beach at the resort is alright.. there was a lot of water tides while we were there but it might be different depending on the season. It is very narrow so you did not have to walk far to dip into the water and it is very quiet and relaxing. We went to the Sirena beach 3 or 4 times and it's one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen. There's a bus that picks you up at certain times for free and drops you off at the marina from where a boat drives you to Sirena beach. At the beach, there is a restaurant/bar and a beach waiter that comes around and brings you drinks (of course which you have to pay for, but they're really cheap). There is also an option to swim with the dolphins there. Overall it was a great, relaxing experience and considering we paid less than $600 for it I really don't have much to complain about.

this a small key 100km away from cubain the middle of the sea,so no towns no locals,it s a deserted island with approx 10 hotels. this is a getaway to really relax, very little beach activities,it s basically beach or pool, beach water tides are strong ,you can either walk 30 minutes or take the bus/taxi(10 min) and goto beautiful playa paraidiso/serena(fine white sands and calm water),on playa blanca there s a nudist section but its very quite and few . food wise above par from regular cuban standards,i mean you pick your food and stick with it all week,i had pasta ,pork and fish that were really good.i drink beer ,wine and brandy which were ok.they have a barbeque section which wasnt opened everyday that was great. this time i had a bungalow room, which was clean and welled maintain,i preferred the hotel rooms ,since my balcony was in the back which was covered with plants and trees and attracts more insects and lizards . for negative side, general global cuban things, prices for souvenirs did get a bit higher and the exchange for cuban peso is 1.20 to your disadvantage for canadian, air conditioners do tend to loose force at times and power did go off every 30 mins for one night. of course i could of written bad reviews if i was a first time at cuba (not understanding lack of technology and service is at a slower pace),or if i didn t eat pork ,pasta and fish etc etc....but if you ve been in cuba at least 2-3 times at 4 star hotels you will appreciate it as long as your ok with a remote location with little entertainment/activities

Spent June 2nd - 9th at Playa Blanca. The resort is well laid out in regards to access to the beach, lobby and restaurants. We were upgraded to a oceanview room (4123) as it was a slower time of season. The food was good (both buffet and a la carte restaurants). Visited the turtle hatchery and both Playa Sirena and Playa Paraiso beaches, which were well worth seeing. The marina has a market area for bartering and also a bar but no beer at either the market or the two beaches. All in all, a great trip and will return to Cayo Largo. Be careful at Playa Blanca beach as the waves can be very rough.

I dreamed about Cayo Largo for a long time :) When finnaly the decision was made to buy the tickets, all the nice hotels were sold out! So despite the bad reviews I still decided to go. The first impression was ok. Arrived late, went to sleep. The room looked creepy at first, but after got used to it. The service was excellent. Everyone was trying hard to impress the guests. And they made it happen! Room cleanliness was average, however we tipped the maid daily!! She often forgot about towels and to take out the garbage. Pool was ok for the size of the hotel. There was always enough space for everyone. I really liked the beach. It was something different than other places. The only bad part were the waves. Food was good. Not too much choice for breakfast, but plenty for dinner. Lunch was served in a restaurant style service where you have to actually order the food. And the beach buffet also had good food. I would definitely go there again when I have the chance!

First things first ... We did our research , we were prepared ,knew what to expect and went their open minded ... Sit back and relax cause this is a long one! My sister (19) and I (22) are Latin and we traveled to cayo largo May 12 - May 19 2014 from canada and stayed at playa blanca resort . Airport: getting through customs was pretty breezy .. Waited in line .. Talked to the officer than was let out and waited to go through the scanning process . Make sure you fill out your travel card to give to the officer who will than give you a copy to give back when you leave cuba ..We where than met by our trip advisor who directed us to the bus that was going to be taking us to our resort .. I've read about the guys who put your bags in the bus asking for tips yupp they do ... Honestly put them in yourself or you can tip . We didn't as we didn't have loose change on us . You can change your canadian money to CUC (Cuban convertable pesos ) at the airport or at the resort . Note you can only convert your money in CUBA !! So bringing cuc back to canada is useless . Bus ride took 10-15 mins to the resort as the airport is in the middle of the island ... Everything is very close to each other .. Resort : we arrived and waiting for about 10 ish minutes to check in . It was pretty quick , they had atleast 3 ppl working the front desk .. Have them our passports and trip documents .. They give you towel cards to redeem NOTE: do not lose your towels or else you pay 25$ cuc ,your room keys and a map of the resort .. Unfortunately our room wasn't ready said to come back in the afternoon.. No biggie .. We changed and went straight to tanning .. We went back and got out keys and to only noticed that we got upgraded to the garden rooms .. Initially paid for the standard rooms that are in the main lobby /building . Resort was kept clean ! The design of the hotel seem a little bit outdated but honestly not a big deal .. By far what I could see throughout the week and traveling by the other resorts, playa blanca seems to be the better looking one . I suggest you go to the welcome meeting the next day .. Very helpful! Our room was kept clean everyone morning by our lovely maid .. Always made beautiful towel art.. The resort has a pool with only salt water .. We enjoyed that often .. There were plenty of chairs a available so you didn't have to claim it before anyone got to it . Food: there are 3 places you can eat at one being the main buffet (which serves only breakfast and dinner) the food wasn't that bad at times they had traditional Spanish food we me and my sister are pretty used to so that was good ! For Breakfast they always had a egg stand where you can ask someone to prepare eggs for you the way you want . They had the usual sausages , toast , fruit and cereal . They had other main plates too . Dinner : they always have a pasta station and a pizza station ... THOSE were amazing ... Pasta station can have red sauce with our without meat and white sauce .. Choice of pasta and toppings (corn, ham, olives, tuna, tomatoes etc) The pizza station you pick your toppings ( corn , tomatoes , green peppers, pineapples etc ) . They also have a meat station . Where you can ask to cook fish , chicken and beef ! Really good too ! They also had like cold cuts and cheese and veggies and fruit (some fresh , some canned) their desserts .. SO GOOD ! Excellent pan con dulce! Drinks they offered are soft drinks ,water , wine , juice and coffee. 2nd place you can eat at is the snack bar which is only for lunch and a la cartes(international) . They sometimes had a outdoor BBQ .. Which lines are so long so waiting for food takes a bit .. They do have a mini buffet with fruits, vegs and desserts . After 3 pm is when you can order food like pizza, burgers (so good!!) and hotdogs . Third is the ranchon which I think is only for a la carte (Cuban food) we did not try any of the al carte . Drinks : there are two main bars one located at the theatre area (which we didn't attend any shows ) which is 24hrs and one at the snack bar . Beaches : there's one on the resort which is okay .. Always high tides BUT There's 2 where you can go to : Playa sirena- beautiful beach .. White sand .. Clear water :) to get there you can either take the shuttle every hour (free) to the marina(had a restaurant and 5 shops a nd take a shuttle boat to the boarding doc ... Let me tell you the walk to the actual beach is something else ... They should build a board walk ... Other way to get to playa sirena is by taxi 4$ cuc for 2 ppl ( no matter where you go it's the same price) goes directly to the beach .. No Marina no waiting ... Because at the marina you have to wait like every hour for the boat .. Taxi was def preferred .. To get back to resort vice versa. Paradiso beach : AMAZING !! our fav ! Only way to get there is by taxi. They used to have a train shuttle but that's for the other hotels .. Again even better white sand and clear blue water ! Excursions: you can swim with dolphins .. 90$ to swim for like half an hour and 75$ to interact for 15 mins.. You can go deep sea fishing snorkelling in the coral reef , visit iguana island ( also they're everywhere on this island even in our resort as well as crabs )and natural pool to see starfishes . We were only interest in seeing the starfishes and didn't feel like paying the whole package (snorkelling, iguana with the natural pool) so we only paid for natural pool .. You got to the second level of the lobby where your trip advisor is at I. The morning . To see the stars we paid 10$ each . Since it's not a official package it was hard to get to .. We waited a bit to get someone to take us the day we wanted to go ... Someone from the sports centre on playa sirena took us on a small boat that you control using ropes ... On this day it was cloudy so we didn't see a lot of starfishes (only one) dunno if he actual brought us to the natural pool or just another part of the beach .. It took 10 mins and their were other people there ... Weather: we had 2 cloudy days and 1 full day of rain but rest HOT HOT AND SUNNNY ! We used accuweather .. Pretty accurate ! The hotel does post information bout the weeks weather in the lobby along with shuttle, currency service information . Checkout was a breeze ... Airport was a breeze to get through ... They do have a restaurant/bar (section room to smoke in) and a dutty free shop which takes canadian and cuc but you only allowed to go through customers with 5 cuc $ I will say this the only downside is when there was no water for 2 days out of the week one in the morning and one at night .. It wasn't a huge deal for us as we were always out and about ... When their was no water the buffet became really hot ! Also downside is how I got reaaally sunburned ... The sun is NO JOKE !couldn't enjoy last 2 days of sun .. Honestly be hydrated and wear sunscreen cause a girl got sick during dinner cause she didn't eat anything all day and was out .. Overall we had an amazing time The people/ workers there are so helpful and nice ... Since basically cayo largo the island was built for tourism .. Since basically no one lives there ... Cubans come here to work and they rotate, beaches are amazing .. We felt comfortable ... Weather was amazing ... It was awesome to have some rest & relaxation since our lives are ridic crazy ... Was nice to escape reality ... I will truly miss cayo largo and playa blanca ... DEF will return !

      “Pleasant suprise! ”
After reading some reviews of this site, I must admit we were regretting out booking. To our pleasant surprise we loved everything about the place. Well, almost everything! The air conditioning needed a little help!....this place is HOT and humid; even hotter that Santiago de Cuba. Mosquitos LOVE this moist heat....and my husband!! The crop duster plane was a bit un-nerving! The beach was good if you went to the right path from the pool; wave jumping was awesome! The local (free) bus was a blast, due to driver; who is hilarious! Take in the turtle rescue and the gift store at the marina (store cheaper than resort!) It is a short boat ride to a super beach (note: the walk on the sand may kill ya!!!) Here the lobster lunch (20 CUC) is best. There are dolphins and boat leasing (beware...Cuba does not offer insurance; at your own risk) The staff at the resort is amazing (except for Mr. Personality behind show bar!) Food is good for Cuban standards. Not much to do but relax here. The bungalows are beautiful and quiet. See you all again, I'm certain!

“7th time and we are looking forward to #8! ”
My husband and I spent Christmas 2013 back at Playa Blanca for our 7th visit! We love it there! As usual, we were welcomed by the staff, many who have become our friends. My review may sound somewhat biased, as we like it there so much, however, we do travel and stay at other resorts in Cuba and so have quite a lot to compare it to. In terms of location - PERFECT- especially if you are looking for a place to kick back and just enjoy! The beaches are fantastic - even the one in front of Playa Blanca - it can certainly tend to have some pretty amazing waves BUT they are great to watch, jump in, and are the perfect backdrop for some wonderful walks along the beach! And Sirena and Paraiso are not far away! Perhaps I should tell you why we go to Cayo Largo: the people, the sand, the sea, the serenity ... it is a little bit of heaven! Food is perfectly fine - and sometimes much better than fine. I don't tend to lose weight when I go! The beer is great - here's a tip: Buccanero is the beer most often served and can be rather strong ... SOOOO if you want a lighter beer, just add some ice and it becomes CRYSTAL, and if that is still too strong for you, add some more ice and it becomes MAYANABO, and if that is really still too strong, add more ice and it becomes ... WATER! That is according to my husband and he is sticking to it!! Personally, I prefer wine and the vino tinto (red) has always been good - can't really speak to vino blanco(white) as I don't tend to drink it much. The rum drinks are good! Also, if you like Caesars, get some of the mix in the store and have the bartenders make one for you - they usually have tobasco! Yummy! We have stayed in the hotel portion of the resort but much prefer the bungalows - 2nd floor with an ocean view! The rooms are very large and the balcony wraps around so you can always find some shade! And the VIEWS ... ! The resort is only 10 1/2 yrs. old, however the salt air and the beatings buildings in the Caribbean take from weather can really date a place quickly! Every time we go to Playa Blanca we have noticed new updates that have been done - it is a never ending process. We have always had good AC and water BUT have heard from others that sometimes that is not the case. Any time we have had any problem at all, it was taken care of right away - I believe that attitude has a lot to do with that - smiles and respect go a long way - it is amazing how some people just don't get that! Back to the resort - I have heard that Iberostar will be taking over Playa Blanca in the fall - something many of the employees at the resort believe will be a good thing - especially in terms of upkeep, purchasing, deliveries etc. Currently the Cuban government runs it. As I said before, one of my favorite things about Playa Blanca are the people! My advice is, get to know them, talk to them, ask them about their families, where they live. Remember, these people are on the island working VERY long hours, away from their loved ones and homes for 20 days at a time - and by the way, their living conditions are most certainly not what we experience on the resort. So sometimes they may seem tired/sad etc. because they are. Just talk to them! TIPS: Do tip - I tip at home, I tip there; bring insulated mugs (ie. Bubbas) - the plastic cups they use are very small and create a mess on the beach and grounds; if you love peanut butter or Heinz ketchup - bring some; bug spray with deet and of course SUNSCREEN!! Well that's about it for this review - just want to say that I am heading back to Playa Blanca on June 30 with a girlfriend! My 8th time, her 1st! I know we will have a fabulous time! And I know if you have an open mind you will too!

      “Amazing place”
This was my second time here (May 19-June 2) and it is amazing. Food is great, the staff are wonderful. We stayed in a room with an ocean view and it was beautiful. Our air conditioner was leaking and within 5 minutes someone had come and fixed it and we received a free bottle of rum for the inconvenience. The pool was cleaned every morning, never dirty. The beach waves were rough but you can go to the other beach (playa sirena) for free everyday at 8:45am, 10am and 11am and it is a beautiful beach!! They have 2 dolphins you can swim with there too! The entertainment was amazing. My favourite is the romantic show because they do the dance from dirty dancing! Overall it was a great vacation and we will definitely return here!
