        “Shoddy run down hotel ”
We stayed one night at this hotel on 01/05/2012. The rooms are very run down ,in desperate need of refurbishment. We had no water in the morning and when we told reception they did not seem to care. Food in the evening was ok but breakfast a la carte consisted of fruit and 2 tiny dry buns. The swimming pool was very dirty with all sorts floating in it.Also loud music playing around it. On the plus side the gardens are nice.Don't bother about the orchid garden nearby as nothing to see.Best to stay in the Vinales region.

        “VERY DESAPOINTING ”
We came here to relax and enjoy a 7 days vacation , insteed we found rooms full of little ants , the water was with no pressure and worst part was this hotel is suposed in Pinar Del Rio , but instead is 110 km away from the city also we have both a half board which means a very very poor breakfast and an allmost no dinner , which was desappointing was also that my fiances nail polish and hand watch were stolen from the room , when i addressed the manager he was very reluctant to say : YOU DON'T LIKE IT YOU CAN ALL WAYS LEAVE , but i have paid for 7 days i still have 5 left , TO BAD THIS IS CUBA , no safe boxes in the room dirty swiminpool , what can i say never thought would happen to me and not in Cuba , but it did .

“the worst place we stayed at in Cuba ”
We ended up staying here for one night because all the casas in Soroa were full. This place was dreadful. By far the worst place we stayed at in Cuba. Admittedly the setting is lovely: lush green hillsides. But the rest... oh dear. Horribly over-priced, very shoddy rooms, no water in the shower (not even cold), grumpy people... it has the feel of a 1950's resort gone wrong. To be fair I did get the impression that the cooks made a real effort to do a good job and much of the food in the buffet was quite good (relative to our experience at another resort we briefly visited where the food was very poor). It is rather interesting from an anthropological perspective to see how official Cuban management translates into a disaster, but not worth the visit. Vinales was much much better. So... 1 star for the efforts of the cooks and for the setting.

We stayed during our roundtrip to Cuba. They had only a "villa" left far away from the reception and the restaurant. The villa was owfull and for sure not rent since a while. Toilet didn t fonction, everywhere insects crawling on the walls, under the bed , in the air conditioning. And the entire walls where plenty of fungi!! Never again! During that night another guest has survived a rubbery in his bungalow!

        “Paradise definately lost ”
On driving along the winding road with the spectacular views of this tropical forest, one would have believed that we were in paradise. Until we got into the accomodation...The exterior of the hotel and huts; and the reception area; restaraunt and pool have been cleverly decorated to hide the interior of the accomodation. Both of the huts my family stayed in were less than basic and shabby. In one hut we had water running from the air conditioning system which flooded the floor and both had signs of damp on the walls. We had no refrigerator in either to store water, which is something we had in all the other hotels in which we stayed on our self-drive tour of Cuba. I was also distressed to see that the lock on the back door of the hut in which my daughter and myself stayed had a less than adequate bathroom door bolt on to secure it. If you can look past the poor accommodation and the pool being invaded by Cuban's feeding the dogs that roam the grounds this could be a beautiful location.

Yes the lack of water 24 hours a day was not the best and the electrics in the room were in need of sorting out. However this is Cuba. The pool was fine and the staff were friendly. The food was ok if some what limited. However the setting was brilliant ,where else could you sit outsde your room and watch humming birds in the flowers. After all it is only a 2star hotel

        “just add water ”
stayed here for one night with a small tour group ~ Thomas Cook "Cabibbean Rhythm" On arrival, after a long day travelling in the heat, we were told that there would be no water until 1800, and that it would be turned off at 2000 (also available 0600-0800 in the morning) Waited until after 1900 to get any water at all, and then just a trickle, but better than nothing I suppose! Chalet type rooms were basic, but acceptable....except the toilet did not work...and plumber was not at all happy having to fix it (we did smile, and said "thank you" but it made no difference) Other chalets had similar problems, including one that came with a semi-naked cleaner on the bed! So...after finally getting cleaned up we walked down to the disappoinment that was dinner. Very ordinary Cuban fare with unhappy looking staff in attendance. Afterwards to the bar and our plumber was now serving drinks...gave him a tip...and Bingo! a smile appeared. Breakfast more of the same, and we were pleased to only be staying here for one night. OK I accept it's only 2 star but my DK Eyewitness Travel Guide says "The Hotel & Villa Turistica Soroa is a simple, though delightful, retreat" They must have been staying in the Villa. Apart from the plumbing, the main problem seems to be the motivation of the staff.....this hotel is in a lovely location and has a great pool area (with water all day)...but a general lack of interest casts a gloomy shadow. It's a shame.

Stayed here for 3 nights as part of a cycling tour around Cuba. Rooms very clean and tidy, other than our toilet which never got fixed. Pool area was nice, was loud and crowded, locals were on holiday. Food - buffet style for all meals, always a variety of dishes quite liked even if some of the dishes were odd. Hotel staff were always helpful. Helping with bags etc was great:-) Location stunning, with a enjoyable hilltop walk close by, along with a lovely waterfall. The local garden "botanical" was beautiful and well worth a visit.

“First stop on a 2 week tour of west Cuba ”
A rough start for a 67 year old woman who is visiting Cuba with 17 Canadians. The resort is off the beaten track in the forest. Should have been my first clue that insects and lizards would be part of my visit. So don't leave wet face cloths in the bathroom to attract ants. Welcome the lizard hiding behind the curtains as he will help control the winged intruders. Remember to apply insect repellant if you plan to have a drink at sundown or later in the outdoor bar! Long pants always a better choice than skirts. Leave a peso for the maids to ensure the best service. Similarly if there is a cook preparing eggs or other entrees, invest a peso. Come early for breakfast & supper for the best selection. The milk is probably powdered. Yes it is disconcerting to see the emaciated dogs. I didn't mind the cabins; reminded me of rustic camping days. Clean but tired furnishings. Didn't use the huge pool. Others reported it was chilly. Folks who stayed in the cabins that were located at the higher elevation suffered from water interruption but cabins nearest the pool were spared this problem.

“Basic but clean and set in a breathtaking location”
I spent the weekend at Villa Soroa as part of an extended tour of Pinar del Rio the hotel is set in extremely beautiful surroundings and at first glance, the hotel seems picturesque and entirely enticing. the first room we were given was scary... to me. the paint was peeling off the walls in chunks and there was mould and mildew EVERYWHERE. when we approached reception and asked for a different room, they quickly facilitated and the second room was immensely cleaner, i.e. no flaking paint or mildew. the bed was lumpy and sank in the middle, but since we spent most of the day out and about, we weren't too bothered by it. in terms of meals - i was not impressed at all. the buffet breakfast was not tasty and very limited in variety. The restaurant staff we found to be quite friendly.

        “Not worth it ”
Bad food, bring your own condiments (spices) from your home country cause you will need them. The waitresses at the restaurant were very nice but that's it. Beware of the ants in the room, I lost my snacks to them and when you find out about them it's too late you will get hundreds of them. My friend saw cockroaches in her toothbrush, luckily she had brought one spare. No service to help you move your bags so be prepared for heavy lifting up the stairs. The swimming pool is dirty, has these yellow stains in the bottom. My towels were all stained and some even smelled like sweat. I think te detergent they use is not good enough. Only thing in its favor is that it is right next to the beautiful botanical garden. But if you can avoid staying here and just make it a day trip from Havana or some other nicer location do it. Drinks and water cost 1Cuc ~1USD, so if you find some place in the city b4 coming here to get water at cheaper price do so. I used it to brush teeth + hydrating. U sweat lots there

We have been staying here during a Cuba round-trip, just like everybody else in this hotel. It has been a long way from Vinales back to Havanna, so this seems to be a regular stop-over. The hotel is located in a very nice area, just a few kilometers away from the main cuban highway. Around the hotel you find an amazing waterfall an orchid garden and a lot of forest. The rooms are located in small bungalows which are allover the hotel area. We had a quite good bungalow close to the pool area, water, AC and electricity worked w/o any troubles (this is not guaranteed in Cuba). The pool area was clean and tidy although quite crowded. Unfortunately the hotel restaurant (you don't have any choices..) was not so good.

Rooms desperately need a refurb, but pool area is pleasant. We were there at a weekend when the place was invaded by Cubans with money - a new class of chavs! The experince was areal eeye opener but not one we'd necessarily like to repeat.

Location was beautiful. The waterfall trail and other trails around the hotel were awesome. We also enjoyed the local disco just down the road and had a good time there. Rooms were not necessarily bad, but extremely simple. Many in our group had issues with the water running. My main complaint is the food. Dinner was nothing great, and breakfast was awful. So as long as your standards aren't too high, it's a fine place.

“Beautiful location - some issues ”
We stayed (2 adults and 2 children aged 10 and 8) for 2 nights in April as part of a 2 week tour of Cuba. Positives 1) Incredibly beautiful location in the midst of the rain forest 2) Huge swimming pool which the children loved 3) Friendly staff who tried to resolve the various issues for us 4) Great location next to lovely orchid gardens and a beautiful viewpoint walk. Negatives 1) The hotel does not have any family rooms to fit 4 as we had been advised (maximum number is 3 per room). We ended up having to have 2 separate bungalows 2) The swimming pool was green the day we arrived and we only realized how bad it was when it was cleaned and suddenly became blue the next day! 3) The hotel also had no money change for the first 2 days we were there which left us seriously short of money because we had not anticipated this and were not near a town (8km away -no car) 4) The food in the restaurant ( buffet) was not particularly special but ok. I would stay here again, but just be aware of the potential issues, especially for families needing a family room (In cuba it seems that the best way to guarantee this is to stay in a casa).

The dining room is fine, and food about average for Cuba i.e. edible but uninspiring. There's a small open bar near the pool. OK for a one night stop.

“Far from perfect, but decent enough. ”
My friends and I stayed here as part of a private tour of West Cuba. The chalet-style rooms surrounding the central pool and bar area are basic, but have air conditioning, hot running water (not always available in Cuba!) and "not uncomfortable" bedding. There were indeed ants in our bathroom and other insects in our room, but you have to take into account that this is the Cuban countryside, state-run hotels are far from perfect and using insecticide in rooms is probably still a few years away. The hotel has one Internet terminal (dial-up, like the rest of Cuba) for public access by means of a paid Internet access card. We enjoyed climbing up to the top of the nearby viewpoint to see the amazing countryside, going to the waterfall to cool down (hotel guests can access the waterfall without paying the normal, small admission fee) and sipping piña coladas by the poolside at the hotel. Although we didn't have dinner at the Villa Soroa, the complimentary buffet breakfast was fairly good (with a very good, made-to-order omelet). Without knowing what other hotel options are available to accommodate groups in Soroa, it's hard to express a view about whether Villa Soroa is better or worst than other hotels in the area. But the hotel, whilst far from perfect, is decent enough and is a good base to see Soroa. Bring insect repellent with you.

Stayed here as part of a cycle trip. A collection of individual chalet style rooms. We were not plagued by insects as other reviewers have been, but this is Cuba and at other places we had frogs and lizards in room. Pool was clean during our stay, some leaves from surrounding pools. Ate at the Buffet one night, adequate but a much better meal at a local Casa Particulares the other. As well as the waterfall others mention there is a short steepish walk to local viewpoint, well worth the walk. Orchid garden fabulous with knowledgeable English speaking guide. Service friendly and porter did take bags to our room (unlike other reviews). A good couple of days.

Stayed here just one, night 23 Feb. What a lovely location - visit the waterfall and the botanical gardens. The pool looked a treat but we never went in, the pool bar service was fairly quick and polite too. The restaurant was to Cuban standards, just but the service was friendly which is always compensation. Our room was fairly basic but everything was as it should be It was quite a long way from the pool and a long walk from reception. The porters are definitely neeeded if you are to avoid breaking into a sweat on departure - and they will be waiting for you to check out! On the other hand it wasn't so easy to find a porter on arrival when the bags need to be trundled up-hill and perhaps up stpes to reach the room. Overall the location made up for everything and we would have been prepared to stay a little longer to re-charge our batteries!

“Wonderful setting, friendly staff, average food”
We stayed here for two nights as part of a package. Being in the middle of the countryside in a very beautiful setting surrounded by trees, it was perhaps unsurprising - or even inevitable - that we had ants in our room. If you don't like creepy-crawlies, you'd perhaps better stay somewhere else. That said, the receptionist was friendly and efficient on check-in. Aside from the ants, the chalet-style room with en-suite facilities was clean and comfortable - though not at all soundproof, which meant that our sleep was disturbed by security guards' conversation late into the evening and animal noises first thing in the morning. The food in the restaurant (breakfast and dinner) can best be described as adequate. The staff, though, were lovely, with a good sense of humour. The hotel has a well-maintained swimming pool with a poolside bar. The cocktails are better than the coffee.

“Reasonable hotel for short stay ”
Visited this hotel as part of Voyage Jules Verne tour. The rooms are reminiscent of Butlins holiday camp huts or perhaps large beach huts around a pool area. Those with memories of the TV programme Hi-di-Hi will find the Hawaiian Ballroom sadly missing but other aspects will be familiar. The "huts" varied in size and their distance from the pool and the restaurant . We were a bit away but the room was reasonable and had a nice small seating area outside. The poolside bar served snacks. These included toasted sandwiches with, in theory, a choice of filling e.g. ham, cheese or ham and cheese. In reality only ham and cheese was available (I know - surely it should be possible to adjust the fillings but it is Cuba.). The restaurant food was the usual Cuban buffet fare but seemed to be better prepared and cooked than others we stayed at. So overall not a great hotel but not a bad one either.

Stayed here for two nights. Basic but clean rooms. Large pool. The restaurant is reasonable, but only for a short stay. Typical (limited choice) Cuban buffet. Local Soroan wine worth a try and not expensive. Not keen to allow access to room on check in before 4 pm, but will give a residents card to get free access to the local waterfall. This, with the orchid garden, and Mirador is all there is to do. Pool gets busy with locals at weekend, but that gives a lively atmosphere.

as we wanted to see the the eco community in las terrazas but tried to avoid the the very popular la moka hotel, villa soroa was the obvious choice. the location is good if you have a car. there is not so much to do in soroa, apart from a nice little waterfall and some hiking. by car the nature reservate as well as the autopista are easy to reach. the rooms were in fact little en-suite bungalows on a hill-side. decor and architecure are very funny and seem to be from various decades: an 80ies resort like reception area, lime stone walls lile in the 70ies. the place has a bit of an "charlie's angels" (the series) feel to it. the rooms were clean and each bungalow has an outside area. the beds were quite firm and there was a small telly. a rather large and 8-shaped pool devides the bungalow area from the bar and restaurant area. the service ar check in/out was a bit slow (eben for cuban standards) and if you are unlucky you have to carry your luggage up to the bungalow all by yourself. restaurant staff was really nice and friendly though. there is a small shop beside the reception. breakfast is the same than everywhere in cuba, a bit of bread, eggs and some fruit. this place is great for people who like somnething " a bit different" and enjoy proper swimming in a pool.

This is a beautiful setting with a huge pool, but downhill from there. Rooms were okay, but there was an ant problem. The biggest problem is the lack of running water, and I only found out because I asked that the water is only pumped between certain hours. Unfortunately the hours I was told were wrong, so missed out on a shower both days, and couldn't flush the toilet in the room, although there were toilets down near reception which flushed. Watch out though the water is only on for a few hours a day and because of a misunderstanding about times available I wasn't able to shower in the morning! We ate at a local paladare after hearing poor reports of the restaurant, the breakfast was one of poorest had in Cuba. The bar's only open until 11pm so if you're hoping for some nightlife this isn't the place to go, however cocktails were good & cheap!

Hotel Soroa is just fine. It is in a most spectacular setting with the individual cabins well surrounded by the local foliage. Insects can be a bit of a problem when sitting out on your veranda later in the day and small ants wander about the floor from time to time but when you stay in such lush surroundings what else can you expect. A nice walk to the nearby waterfall is free for hotel guests and the small bar run by the hotel at the entrance to the waterfall car park does a superb Daiquiri. The food in the buffet is fine if uninspiring but perfectly good for the location.

        “Acceptable with nice setting ”
Stayed here for one night during a Cuba Tour with Voyages Jules Veren. In a very nice setting, average on all counts but quite acceptable for a one night stay. Rather a pleasant chalet type room. We were advised to get to supper on time or the food might run out, but this was not really necessary although the menu was rather limited. Perhaps be a bit carefull as 4 of our group had upset tumnmies the next morning. It is adjacent to a small, compact botanical garden and that is well worth visiting with a pleasant elderly guide. Also close by is a waterfall. Not very much water running over it when we were there in Feb and it is 200 steps plus to get to the bottom of it. Only 2 of our group of 16 made it.!

“Beautiful Location and People - Rooms Not So Much”
Our group spent two nights at this very beautiful location. Rooms were cabin in several terraced areas. Well laid out and maintained. Great pool and outdoor bar. We arrived in a HEAVY pouring rain and the porter rolled and then carried our suitcases up 2 stone steps to our room. What a guy - tipped extra for the work. The room relatively clean and well appointed. Shower in Room 18 was broken, it drooped so the shower head had to be held by another person. We had total of three towels - better than previous government owned Cubanacan that this was a part. But we did have hot water at the sink and shower - YEAH! One bed was quite comfortable, the other the springs were coming through and broken. As we were in the middle of the rain forest we had serous mosquitoes in room both nights. No spray for the guests. Electrical outlets were a premium. I always travel with an extension cord and these two days it was fully extended. I must give SPECIAL thanks to the restaurant staff - best we have seen in Cuba. They went out of their way to help us and me in particular. At dinner on the second night we even got big smiles, hugs and kisses. WOW what great ladies. Great porters and helpful at any time. As we walked by they always asked us if there was something we needed or they could do for us. I must say this is true of 99.9% of the Cuban people - friendly, helpful, smiling, and so gracious. Really beautiful people.

“Pretty Good for a government hotel! ”
This place is quite a nice resort in a very good location. The hotel has lots of walks nearby and a nice waterfall 10 minute walk away that's great for swimming. The staff on the front desk are fantastic and speak English very well. They are very friendly and go out of their way to help you. The pool is very nice with a pool bar where they make really nice cocktails. The rooms are very comfortable with airconditioning and ensuite with a good shower. However the location of some of the rooms is questionable with ours being right next to a road that has trucks driving past at all hours (if you leave the air-con on you cant hear it as much). The food is mostly quite good in the buffet with only the occasional dish that wasn't that great. Their desserts are really good and I loved their creme caramel and rice custard. They have a nice cuban duo band playing many cuban favourites in the evening aswell. I recommend arriving as soon as it opens in the evening for dinner so you get in before the tour groups arrive. There are a lot of tour groups that stay at this place. Overall, I would recommend but would probably stay a night at the Las terraces San juan waterfalls which we did as a day trip from Soroa.

“Pretty good for Cuban Standards ”
When in Cuba don?t expect Western style hotels and services. If you?re old enough compare it to hotel visits in 60?s 70?s and forget about your modern upscale thoughts you have by visiting hotels in Europe, US or modern Asia. This hotel is for Cuban standards pretty good. I stayed in 10 other hotels so I am able to compare. The rooms are still in pretty good conditions, although some repair and renewal in a few rooms is necessary. The pool are with bar are very beautiful and provide you with a wonderful jungle view. Yes, you are at the end of the road in the middle of the jungle close to a stunning waterfall and orchid garden. The restaurant is an all-you-can-eat buffet with limited choice and supply. The food is however good and up to the regular Cuban hotel standard. Staff is friendly but not enthusiastic. But the band that plays in the evening at the bar is a blast.

        “Not bad at all ”
Stayed here for two nights while exploring Soroa and Las Terrazas. It?s not a bad place, though the receptionist was very abrupt and cold. (To my other half anyway - she was nice to me!). The staff went beyond the call when asked to help me open my car when I stupidly locked the keys in ? three guys struggled for 30 mins to successfully open it with nothing expected. (But a massive tip given!) The rooms are perfectly fine and even have CNN on TV, which might be the only time you see news from the outside world if you are staying in casas. The pool and bar looks nice, dinner and lunch at the two restaurants are normal for Cuba. Breakfast was a bit of a pigs-to-the-trough affair as a massive tour group fuelled up for the day while we were there.

        “Amazing Waterfall ”
There's many bad reviews of this hotel, but I found it to be fine. It was clean and the beds were also fine. The only bad thing I have to say about this hotel would be the food. It wasn't great, and surprisingly our only bad meals in cuba were here. It's best to get to the buffet early. The rooms have a tv, with CNN if you feel you need to watch a little telly :) The pool is amazing and really deep! The bar is also great, we met some other guests there and the barman kept the bar open for us way past the 9.45 closing time (until about 12pm) (It may have had something to do with the amount of cocktails we were ordering!). You get free entry to the waterfall which is just down the road, and well worth the little walk through the rainforest and the bats. We had a flat tyre and one of the staff helped us change it, which was really friendly. We went on a day trip to the more expensive las terrazas, and were a bit disappointed! we thought it was going to be great, but actually soroa has the same amount to offer, with less tourists. We booked online and the price was very cheap for half bord, you get what you pay for!! If you are expecting a high class hotel, you will be disappointed, but if you are expecting huts with basic amenities and lots of things to do, you will be very impressed! PS: Don't drink the wine.........

“Good hotel in rurla setting ”
I stayed here for 2 nights in May with my wife, mother and 16 month old. I really enjoyed my stay at the Villa Sora. It has a lovely the pool and the surrounding area is extremely beautiful. There a very pretty waterfall to swim in a short walk away. We also went on a nature walk with a hotel sourced guide who extremely knowledgeable who took us to visit a substance coffee farmer in the local area. There is also a hill to climb that gives a great view of the local area. There is an onsite shop that is relatively well stocked and not ridiculously overpriced (which is a surprise as there is nowhere else to go!) The rooms are pretty basic (although they do have CNN) and the hotel is a little dated in places (where isn?t in Cuba!). We had booked half board and eat in the restaurant each night. The food was quite average. There was also an a la carte option for dinner which may be better but we did not try that. The staff were pretty unhelpful but that is kind of what I would expect in a large hotel like this in Cuba. Just to let you know if you are getting round by taxi, the hotel nominated taxi is a 1980?s Volga that does not have air conditioning. This is not ideal for long journeys so make sure you have sorted a taxi before you arrive!

        “Fantastic pool ”
We really liked this place with one reservation - the water supply was very hit and miss! The service was good, helpful reception, our chalet was nice and we has lovely views over the pool and to the hills. The pool is outstanding - it must be 50m long, and for the most part is over 2m deep - you can really get a good swim here. Bar / drinks good, breakfast good for Cuba, evening meals a bit variable, one night was good, one was pretty dreadful - spam fritters, I ask you!!! Reception arranged a wonderful guided walk with the best guide we had in Cuba - Alberto - he was a fascinating man from whom I learnt so much about the Island, its history, flora and fauna, thank you, Alberto.

“A gem in need of some TLC ”
Room was dark only half of lights had bulbs - floor always felt dirty - lots of hot water. In general is in need of an overhaul. Doors were rotten at bottom and many ants crawling around the room. Never paid the same price for drinks at bar or in dining room and you received a rude reception if questioning the difference. The facility is located in a lovely setting and has a large pool which is in fairly good shape. The state of repair is typical Cuba, but I think you will find the nature and environment of the area will over shadow the short comings.

This was our second visit to Villa Soroa, after a few hectic days travelling its a great peaceful retreat. Rooms are basic but very clean and a great pool, the setting is perefect for a relaxing peaceful two day stay, nearby is the waterful which is within walking distance and the orchid gardens. There is a restaurant on site. Would definitely stay here again.

        “Wonderful surroundings ”
We stayed here for one night in January 2012 as part of a package tour. As somebody has mentioned elsewhere the rooms are very reminiscent of a holiday camp - small and basic but perfectly adequate for a short stay. Each room has a patio area at the front, which compensates for the cramped indoor space. We were fortunate that our room was on the hillside overlooking the pool area with an unobscured view, but other rows of rooms were behind ours and would not benefit from the open views. The bar was beside the pool and served very nice toasted cheese and ham sandwiches - but no other food whilst we were there. The bar was fine and we enjoyed a pleasant evening being entertained by local musicians. The restaurant was at the front of the hotel - a short walk away - and again served the usual tourist buffet, which was perfectly adequate. Perhaps the best feature of this hotel was it's very close proximity to the waterfall (free admission for those staying at the hotel) and the botanical gardens for which all visitors must pay but which is outstanding in the beauty of the gardens and for it's setting among the hills. In fact we visited it twice during our brief stay in Soroa, and at the end of our holiday many people on our tour voted it the highlight of our entire holiday.

“Soroa houses in the mountain - undiscovered gems ”
Most people know about the hotel, but they're not aware that if you take the road up the hill past the orchid garden, there are 5 houses that Soroa also rents out, 3-4 bedrooms each, with private pools. These are only available for direct reservation with the hotel. Off-season a 4-bdrm house costs $65, high season $80 CUC. All rooms are air conditioned, kitchens are equipped with gas ranges, plates, a few pots/pans, coffee maker & utensils & a refrigerator/freezer. House #2 is the most recently renovated (just completed a few weeks ago) and is where we stayed with family for a few nights. We had my husband's Candelaria family in for a day to enjoy the pool with us and we had a pork roast. We didn't end up doing much cooking (for 60 Cuban pesos, just over $2/person) we decided to eat out the first night at "El Chilindron" serving great stewed meat with all the Cuban trimmings. And the last day we just picked up some eggs, fresh avocado, onions, mayo & tamales locally and made our own light dinner once we'd polished off all the leftover pork & congris from day 2. The orchid garden, massage services, mineral baths, waterfall, and exploring the now-abandoned "Castillo en las Nubes" and adjacent house with million-dollar views and history galore were among our highlights. I saw a tocororo in the avocado tree beside our pool the last morning. Also had a wonderful visit with Alberto, the local naturalist guide who has been working at the property for years. This is a great place to relax & unwind with family with all the privacy you could want. As with Cuba, there are sometimes funny details (like the tags still being on the fixtures, or the transparent glass in the guest bathroom door, or some rooms with no night tables in place let) that make you wonder, but for $80 per night for a 4-bedroom air conditioned house with private pool just 1 hour from Havana in a spectacular setting, this is just hard to come by so we were all OK with it. Apparently the investors have a few more details in the warehouse, so this is still not a 100% completed project. We very much enjoyed our stay.

“Good 2 star hotel in lovely location ”
We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights as part of a 4 week indepedent tour of Cuba. The half board rate we paid reflected the two star rating and we thought the hotel was good value. The chalet type rooms are located in large gardens surrounded by lush forest and are grouped around a huge pool which was clean and had plenty of loungers and shade. Our room was basic but clean and bright with comfy beds and the wattage of the light bulbs were such that you could read a book in the evening which is no easy matter in most Cuban hotels. The food was no better or worse than any other place we stayed but we found food is not a highlght of a holiday in Cuba. We visited Las Terrazas where we took the guided birdwatching tour with a very informative and friendly guide and ate lunch at the El Romero restaurant ( well recommended ) and at Soroa there is the orchid garden and a couple of short walks. We enjoyed our 3 night stay at this hotel.

“Fanastic view from the poolside of surrounding pine trees ”
We stayed here to break an otherwise long journey and to visit Las Terrazas. Chalet typre room set in gardens around large central pool. The view from the pool is fantastic. Nearby there is an orchid garden, waterfall and an old fairy tale castle in ruins. Worth the effort is the steep one hours hike to a look put point affords views over around the whole area through a pine forest. The restaurant isn't up to much but with the food shortage and government restrictions what can you expect? The trick is not to order anything Western, stick with typical Cuban food as it will be teastier and resemble what it is supposed to be! They can organise tours around the Las Terrazas eco reserve which are very intersting with knowledgable guides. A 2 night stay would have allowed more time to relax.

In the western area Sierra del Rosario, World Biosphere Reserve, 80 km away from Havana, surrounded by beautiful vegetation. It is the ideal spot for nature lovers; it is renowned for a stunning 21-meter waterfall and is home to Cuba's largest orchid farm.
