“Great service, nice grounds, beach terrible. ”
Stayed one week in November. Had initially reserved the new melia but its opening was delayed. Had diamond service. Grounds beautiful, a la carte restos were pretty good (for Cuba). Buffet not so great. Hotel rooms comfortable but simple. Some issues with not always having hot water but intermittent. Staff great and super nice. Bartenders at beach super sweet. pool was nice but cold. Ocean beautiful but reviews about rocks accurate and way way worse than I thought. They are sharp coral and you cannot walk on them. Once you get past the ocean is gorgeous - what I would expect from Cuba. Stayed in room 6104. Far enough from noise and close to a la carte. No ocean view but view of ground. Diamond service was nice but would not pay extra. 20% less at spa good but prices are reasonable so can't save enough to make it worthwhile and higher end liquors were very very limited and higher grade toiletries not worth it. All in all enjoyed my trip. Been to Cuba a couple of times so food wasn't a huge surprise. This resort had pretty good considering it was in Cuba. Suggestions: have Latin dancing (where guests can dance) in the evening with Latin music and more female entertainers. Special thanks to Omar. Travelled with a 4 month old and he was a huge help!

“nice resort but some issues ”
my wife and I stayed here for 1 week at the end of oct into nov only 15 mins from the airport first impressions were good as you are greeted by music playing and a welcome drink in a nice reception area. we checked in and were given 2 key cards and that was it!!!! we were not told where our room was, how to get there or any details of facilities and they went on to start checking in the next people so we looked around and saw a member of staff pointing people in a direction and assumed they could tell us where our room was and they did. not a good start. our room was nice with a balcony, air conditioning and a minibar (which contained 2 beers and 2 soft drinks nothing else) the room was serviced by a maid everyday who changed towels and bedsheets but did not clean very well - after reading some trip adviser reviews I started tipping the maid but after a few days I realised the room was not being cleaned and there was dust on most surfaces including the wooden headboard and the table next to the bed which would have taken seconds to do so I stopped the tips. the resort is a series of blocks and are in reasonable condition but some areas need a bit of maintenance and a lick of paint the gardens are nice and colorful with lots of flowering and shrubs the pool area is nice and clean and there were no problems getting a sunbed - partly due to the low numbers of people there at the time but they played loud music by the pool nearly all day long and this spoiled it we had a small map of the place and worked out where things were and found out about facilities etc the main restaurant was nice and the food was mostly o.k - sometimes some food was under cooked or overcooked but there was a good choice with some variation on each day there are also 3 other restaurants which you can dine in but have to book in advance we were invited to a "special" dining evening at one of the a la carte restaurants but this was a set menu with no choices and not worth bothering with the bar staff were all different some were happy and served quickly while others sometimes ignored you and got on with what they were doing - after reading reviews about tipping I can say it does make a difference as you will get served quicker if you tip - even 1 peso - I know this should not be the case but in reality it is the evening entertainment is very good but they do not stick to the advertised times NOTE - the resort is in cayo coco on the islands not on the mainland and there is very little to do there so if you want to go out and about you need to get a taxi to the mainland - nearest town is Moron about 1 hour drive in a taxi and costs about 80 pesos return (roughly £55) public transport is very poor except for the bus which goes along the main road on the island and costs 5 pesos for a day ticket there was a lot of talk from the thomas cook rep and the bus rep about the political situation and history of the revolution etc in cuba - it felt as if they were trying to defend their ideas and political agenda to the tourists TIP - take a torch as some time the lights in the hotel corridors are off and some of the paths are not well lit on a night overall we enjoyed the hotel and facilities (bar/restaurant/pool etc) but I do not think we will return
