      Varadero Airport

      Juan Gualberto Gomez Airport was built in 1989 and inaugurated by Fidel Castro,[3] thus replacing the old Varadero airport located in Santa Marta, currently known as Kawama Airport. The airport was named after a journalist, fighter for the Cuban Independence and black rights activist in Cuba Juan Gualberto Gómez (1854–1933). The terminal building has shops for tourists (including rum, cigars, T-shirts, books, carvings, pharmaceuticals), a large departures lounge cafeterias and a VIP lounge. A VIP card is available by paying $30/person to the local tour company representative. This allows the departing passenger to bypass the queues for check-in, have an agent take your departure tax to the correct official for you, and bypass any lines for passport control. The passenger is then taken to the VIP lounge which provides free food and drink (including alcoholic beverages).[4] The ground handling equipment is imported mainly from North America. There are four jet bridges, but air stairs are used for the remaining aircraft parking spaces on the apron by the terminal. Juan Gualberto Gómez Airport (IATA: VRA, ICAO: MUVR), formerly known as Varadero Airport (Spanish: Aeropuerto de Varadero), is an international airport serving Varadero, Cuba and the province of Matanzas. The airport is located closer to the city of Matanzas than to Varadero. The closest airport to Varadero is Kawama Airport. In 2009, the airport handled 1.28 million passengers,[2] making it the second busiest airport in Cuba after José Martí International Airport in Havana.

        “Good hotel, however major flaw.”
        Stayed here last week for seven nights all inclusive in a standard double room, we were upgraded to a sea view room free of charge which was a bonus, however the room was quite dated and tired, but the view was fantastic! The major flaw to this hotel is that the main bar is located in the centre on the ground floor with most of the rooms being directly above it within an open atrium, therefor very noisy! The bar closed at midnight, however the noise would continue to go on until 2am with the stragglers and then the staff clearing up and shouting etc. To add to this they then started up again in the morning at approximately 7am with music being played from 8am. After two sleepless nights we asked to be moved to a room away from the centre however it was lost in translation and they offered 2 alternatives, one was on a lower floor which was even closer to the bar, so then they offered one on the tenth floor, however still above the bar area! We gave up at this point and accepted the higher floor which was a far superior room to what we had, however only a bit less noisy. The problem with being on the tenth floor was the 4 lifts in the hotel were a joke, and most people would give up waiting for them and use the stairs! One good way to work off the exsses all inclusive I guess! The staff at the hotel were very good to be fair, especially the pool bar and restaurant staff who were always very friendly. Food was ok, pool area very nice and the beach again nice.

        “Good stay and would go back to. ”
        Great hotel, beautiful beaches less than 1 minute walk from the hotel, lots of entertainment facilities provided. The only thing in my opinion that let it down was the dinner, because the themes were not always what they said they were and it became a little boring with a few things always appearing. Room was spacious, with balconies and great views if you choose the ones with a sea-view which I would definitely recommend. The bathroom was clean with a decent shower, cleaned everyday, bars were good also.

        “Birthday trip...love to go back... ”
        This was part of a multi trip to Cuba, we stayed 3 nights in Havana first..The hotel a bit unusual to look at with all the vines growing down..First of all the rooms were spacious and nice and bright..bit dated but over all a nice room..The staff are lovely and work very hard, the barmaids never stop and always have a smile for you.....The food was better than we expected of Cuba, always something different to eat,,the a la carte restaurants were very good, we went twice to the international and twice to the Mexican, with a complimentry chocolate cake from the manger and a bottle off fizz for our friends Anniversary..Nice touch...Last of all the beach was very nice spent most of our time on there, the sea was lovely and warm, warmer than the pool...ha...Over all we had a fantastic holiday in Cuba and we hope to return one day...

        “Returning guest ”
        This was the 3rd visit in 2yrs, I have already booked to return next year. The staff are amazing, grounds kept to an excellent standard and nothing is too much trouble. The accommodation is clean and I would suggest upgrading to the plus option if you get the chance. The entertainment is really good, the animation team are always upbeat. Leo, Johan, Jonnie, Michael, Gretel and the rest of the team are great, Halloween was extra special. Rosa still makes the best Bahamas Mama's. Food is plentiful and to a good standard. I could go on and on but won't. Great value for money

        “Worth the rating ”
        We echo all the positive reviews by others. The only negative being that the pool side grill was closed for the last few days of our 7 night stay and to have an alternative to the main restaurant was really a great change offering a completely different atmosphere pity that had to do some maintenance! Not sure why you are limited to only one visit to the al la carte Mexican restaurant if you stay less than a week as I would have paid a premium to be served rather than the rather long trip to the main buffet given the chance and it was only half full. Same with the Palma Real restaurant. Maybe a standby arrangement should be considered.

        “Fantastic beach hotel, will definietely come back ”
        The hotel is very good in overall. Rooms are modes but spacious, the hotel lobby is a fantastic, spacious, full of green plants and is a perfect for evening drink. Buffet very good with a lots of choice., staff very halpfull and efficient. As people in Cuba strugling with a basics it is worth to leave any cosmetic left overs for staff, which is a great help for them on top of tips.

        “Amazing, simply amazing ,missing it already x ”
        I can't say anything more than amazing, me and my boyfriend stayed there for a week, 31/10, just loved it The staff are great, friendly, couldn't do enough for us, always welcomed with a smile, shake of a hand and hello Hotel is lovely and clean Food is great, loads of choice The best place for a great tasting cocktail is at the piano bar The beach is amazing and clean, plenty of sunbeds, they have catamarans, pedallos and kayaks to use for free Taxis are right outside the hotel and bus stop just on the road in front. Loads of excursion trips to choose, we went to a remote island called Cayo blanco from a catamaran and went for a day trip to Havana, both were really good value for money and was picked up at the hotel Just fabulous, amazing and best holiday I've been on to date. Miss it already xx

        A super hotel
        This was my first visit to Cuba Feb23-Mar 2nd and I chose this hotel as it was recommended by my good friend who visited there last August. Superb is how I would rate the Blau. The hotel stands out over the others in the area due to the structure. The inside of the hotel is breathtaking. The staff were all wonderful. Our room was neat & clean and the maid did a great job of making all kinds of fancy towel arrangements on our bed each day. The meals were great and quite a selection you'd never go hungry. The entertainment was excellent bravo to all the staff who performed each night and to the staff at the pool and beach who got us involved in the exercises and dancing lessons. The poolside water ballet on Sunday was wonderful too. A unique hotel that I can hardly wait to return to. Thanks to all the staff and management for making our stay a memorable one.

        FANTASTIC
        I stayed at the hotel with my husband Eduardo 2 years ago . It was incredible. They services were marvelous. The stay was so pleasant that, this year, we're doing everything we can to go back. God willing, we'll be traveling on the 24th of October and staying at the same hotel. Goodbye,
