“Don't be honest at this resort ”
came to this resort with 9 friends the beginning of October for my 50th birthday, first night we accidentally broke the tv so like honest Canadians we reported so we could make a minds and pay for it.wow what a mistake that was, we were handed a $1100 bill for the tv and all 9 of were booted out, sunwing sure wasn't much help,we ended up going to breezes Costa Bella and had to pay for our stay there.ive been comeing to cuba for 7 years now and I have never been treated so wrong.that being said what I did see of the resort was awesome especially the beach but what meals I did have there sucked.the food at breezes was way better with lobster being served almost every night.if you come here and you brake something LIE and same it was like that when you arrived.also 300 dollars went missing out of the room after maid cleaned it

    “Homeless panhandler like staff ”
My spouse and I booked in for a 3 day get away and from the start it was horrible. We discovered that if we wanted room service or the use of the hot tub and adult?s only area we would have to pay an extra 20 CUC per day for these features. When I approached the front desk for clarification, everyone claimed to not understand what I was saying and pass me off to another person who would ignore me for several minutes pretending to be busy organizing papers or moving the mouse across the computer and then finally just shrug or shake their head and continue clicking on the computer. The room was filthy. I was shocked when we walked in, holes in the walls, broken window blinds, dirty floor and an unflushed toilet. This is not exactly what I had grown to expect from a RIU resort regardless of the country. The maids did little more then make the bed. Regardless of tipping them well, towels where left wet, sandy and hung up ready for reuse. Our sheets had not been changed, the bed was like sleeping on concrete and my back is still sore. The room fridge was not stocked as was the mini bar in our room and we would have to go to the bar to ask for water on the last day they replaced our toilet paper. The staff members are just plain lazy and greedy. We had tipped resort staff 260 CUC in the three days we stayed. The first day of our stay we asked the guard at the gate about a cab he hailed one down for us and then leaned into the window glaring at us waiting for a tip. It was very intimidating and made both my spouse and I extremely uncomfortable, however we assumed it was his personality. The second and third day of our stay we realized this was the staff mentality. We had one case where it was raining so we sat down for a glass of wine to wait for it to subside. The waiter took 15 minutes to finish his conversation with another staff member before coming over to us, and then actually had the nerve to chase us out the doors and put his hand out and request his tip. I was not expecting a fantastic meal however I was expecting food to be cooked and available. If I asked for a coffee and it was not breakfast I was told to go into the main lobby bar. The a la carts which we booked at 6:00 pm seemed to be disorganized, rushed and out of stock most of the time. Asking for wine we were told it was an extra fee. I had a situation where the server literally took my unfinished plate and walked away leaving me just staring after her. In the buffet section most meat products were served raw or burned. The one meal I found a piece of meat with the entire hid left on it just cooked and smothered in sauce! Our room was on the ground floor. The day we packed we noticed that my spouse?s ipod, packaged socks, boxers, one pair of swim trunks, my dress sandals, my hair products, bath and body works products and a few shirts from both of us where missing. Only ourselves and hotel staff had access to our room. When we went to front desk, no one ?understood? what I was saying about the missing products and they stayed in Cuba. The entire trip the only people who had any form of customer service seemed to be the lifeguards telling us we could not swim in the ocean as it was too windy and dangerous. They were polite and apologetic about the weather and lack of sun ? it rained every single day, all day so we did not get any actual sun which is no ones fault but the weather. Overall the Riu Varadero, Cuba was a waste of time, money and the worst part excitement. This was our first trip together and the staff at the facility literally ruined everything with bad attitudes, poor service and acting like homeless panhandlers taking advantage at every opportunity. That was mixed with a filthy and broken facility and I can say that disappointment is not even the right word for this facility.
