“Great service, nice grounds, beach terrible. ”
Stayed one week in November. Had initially reserved the new melia but its opening was delayed. Had diamond service. Grounds beautiful, a la carte restos were pretty good (for Cuba). Buffet not so great. Hotel rooms comfortable but simple. Some issues with not always having hot water but intermittent. Staff great and super nice. Bartenders at beach super sweet. pool was nice but cold. Ocean beautiful but reviews about rocks accurate and way way worse than I thought. They are sharp coral and you cannot walk on them. Once you get past the ocean is gorgeous - what I would expect from Cuba. Stayed in room 6104. Far enough from noise and close to a la carte. No ocean view but view of ground. Diamond service was nice but would not pay extra. 20% less at spa good but prices are reasonable so can't save enough to make it worthwhile and higher end liquors were very very limited and higher grade toiletries not worth it. All in all enjoyed my trip. Been to Cuba a couple of times so food wasn't a huge surprise. This resort had pretty good considering it was in Cuba. Suggestions: have Latin dancing (where guests can dance) in the evening with Latin music and more female entertainers. Special thanks to Omar. Travelled with a 4 month old and he was a huge help!
“nice resort but some issues ”
my wife and I stayed here for 1 week at the end of oct into nov only 15 mins from the airport first impressions were good as you are greeted by music playing and a welcome drink in a nice reception area. we checked in and were given 2 key cards and that was it!!!! we were not told where our room was, how to get there or any details of facilities and they went on to start checking in the next people so we looked around and saw a member of staff pointing people in a direction and assumed they could tell us where our room was and they did. not a good start. our room was nice with a balcony, air conditioning and a minibar (which contained 2 beers and 2 soft drinks nothing else) the room was serviced by a maid everyday who changed towels and bedsheets but did not clean very well - after reading some trip adviser reviews I started tipping the maid but after a few days I realised the room was not being cleaned and there was dust on most surfaces including the wooden headboard and the table next to the bed which would have taken seconds to do so I stopped the tips. the resort is a series of blocks and are in reasonable condition but some areas need a bit of maintenance and a lick of paint the gardens are nice and colorful with lots of flowering and shrubs the pool area is nice and clean and there were no problems getting a sunbed - partly due to the low numbers of people there at the time but they played loud music by the pool nearly all day long and this spoiled it we had a small map of the place and worked out where things were and found out about facilities etc the main restaurant was nice and the food was mostly o.k - sometimes some food was under cooked or overcooked but there was a good choice with some variation on each day there are also 3 other restaurants which you can dine in but have to book in advance we were invited to a "special" dining evening at one of the a la carte restaurants but this was a set menu with no choices and not worth bothering with the bar staff were all different some were happy and served quickly while others sometimes ignored you and got on with what they were doing - after reading reviews about tipping I can say it does make a difference as you will get served quicker if you tip - even 1 peso - I know this should not be the case but in reality it is the evening entertainment is very good but they do not stick to the advertised times NOTE - the resort is in cayo coco on the islands not on the mainland and there is very little to do there so if you want to go out and about you need to get a taxi to the mainland - nearest town is Moron about 1 hour drive in a taxi and costs about 80 pesos return (roughly £55) public transport is very poor except for the bus which goes along the main road on the island and costs 5 pesos for a day ticket there was a lot of talk from the thomas cook rep and the bus rep about the political situation and history of the revolution etc in cuba - it felt as if they were trying to defend their ideas and political agenda to the tourists TIP - take a torch as some time the lights in the hotel corridors are off and some of the paths are not well lit on a night overall we enjoyed the hotel and facilities (bar/restaurant/pool etc) but I do not think we will return
“Beach Under Construction ”
Beach; ? Under construction. Currently the owners are scraping away the top layers of coral in preparation for sand. Coral reef extends length of beach and is very sharp to walk on. Bring water shoes! Be prepared for noise, dust, diesel smell and general disruption of your holiday. ? There were very few palapas available. For shade, prepare to be early or settle back among the trees. ? Frequent jellyfish just off shore. Use caution. ? Barracudas and sting rays also frequent the beach area. Food and Beverage Service; ? Food is good but typical Cuban food. You won't go hungry but they won't always have what you want. ? Drinks are plentiful. Bars abound. Domestic alcohol is used most bars unless you have upgraded to Diamond Club. They all make modifications to standard drinks, so find a bar tender you like and stick with him. They do try new drinks too, so if you have a favorite, tell them how it's made. Accommodations; ? Large stiff beds with fresh linen, usually sized just barely wide enough. One pillow each. A couple of thin blankets for cool nights. ? Tub is tall, like most Cuban resorts. Water very hot! Sign warns it is set at 50°C. ? Three storey bungalows with stairs spread around property. A little walk to the pool, beach and restaurants. All bungalows are set away from the central "business area" As I write this, I am aware that it has a negative tone. The resort is very nice if you get past the beach issue. The staff indicate an expected completion of one month for beach repairs. ERR on the side of caution and pass this by for the foreseeable future.
“Another Fun Week at Memories Flamenco ”
Well we had another great week at the Flamenco. Rooms are kept clean. Pool is great and the variety of food is pretty good. They are constantly trying to improve which is good to see. They are still trying to work on the beach and when it is done it will be great. Having said that we still went in the ocean and it was great. Just wish the tourists would pick up after themselves and don't leave their cigarette butts everywhere and their straws and plastic glasses.. I hope that we will be able to return next year.. I have never seen administration so involved with their guests. That is so great. Keep us the good work.
“hardest review yet sometimes 5* sometimes 2* ”
Wow how hard is this hotel to write a review on.I judge a place on four main points 1/beach 2/food 3/room and 4/staff sometimes a fifth judgement on extras or attractions.in this case its four main points.firstly 1/beach pretty poor im afraid the underlying rock cuts into your feet pretty sharply but once about 20 meters into sea its mostly sand plus the hotel has a fair to good pool or you can use the tour bus to visit other areas.2/the food, average sometimes well above the soup was always great and the merange deserts were to die for,but sometimes so badly organised and prepared food quite often luke warm or cold no consistency items run out of not replaced such as potatoes chips even the main roast dishes. One breakfast was without juices bacon sausages pancakes etc for over the first half hour of the breakfast sitting pure chaos! 3/rooms pretty good, well serviced good standard of a/c no complaints.point 4/staff absolutely fantastic and genuine, even though the Cuban wages are rock bottom these people genuinely work so hard to please you and not just for the tips, they want to do anything they can to make you happy, even as far as the management team, met a fantastic high up manager called David who bust a gutt to solve our issues. The bar staff wow what workers, the room maid brilliant, restaurant staff great, even the gardeners all greeted you with enthusiasm.Well done staff brilliant 5* and a special award to the guy at the beach bar YOSMEL.Sorted a few pretty serious issues I had tirelessly when nobody else would. May I add we travelled with Thomas cook who as usual were not very good regarding transport and service, but and a very big but had a local cuban rep at the resort called Roberto.Much to my regret I have to give this guy a top 5* Well done Roberto, you were fantastic,a credit to any employer.
“Great memories, good hotel! ”
Stayed here for a week with my girlfriend from Nov 12th - 19th and had a great time. It was our first holiday in Cuba and didn't know what to expect but we were pleasantly surprised. We were welcomed at the airport by a hotel member of staff and upgraded to Diamond Club for free (though I think all UK guests have it included as part of what they pay for the holiday). The room were big and clean - what more can you ask for? The only minor snag was that it was a bit of a walk from the pool area, beach and lobby bar/reception though it didn't bother us too much. The staff were generally great although there were one or two occasions where they seemed to lack interest in us and randomly pick out tables to offer coffee to on a morning, whilst forgetting about the rest of us. Again, a minor issue. When we were on the coach and about to leave, the general manager came on board and thanked us for staying at the hotel and wished us a safe flight home which was good of him. The beach is good but not great. You don't NEED beach shoes like other reviews say but it wouldn't hurt to take them as there is still a bit of coral in some areas. The sea is crystal clear and you can walk out quite far and just drift with the waves and enjoy the peace and quiet. Beautiful! The food was a bit hit and miss. On some days/nights, the buffet was good and on others it was average. But hey, you're in Cuba - just put up or shut up! The a la carte restaurants were good but the menus were very limited. The creole restaurant was our favourite! The lobby bar does a wide selection of cocktails and other drinks so you can't go wrong. They do the best pina coladas! And if you've got a sweet tooth, order the Alexander! We'd recommend this hotel to anyone considering visiting Cayo Coco and would return! Feel free to PM me any questions!
“The time of our Lives”
If you are looking for a nice resort where you can relax and feel at home away from home, this is it. My wife Natalia and I had such a great time. The Resort grounds are second to none, the Buffet was well stocked with many choices, the a la carte restaurants were good also, try the Chinese one first, the best in our opinion. Very clean, our chamber maid "Mirna" was an absolute professional in her efforts on our room. Our Customer care rep Karen was as equally devoted in ensuring us a great time. If you go, seek Karen out, and Mirna is in building 4. We will be back, not sure when but we will, a definite recommend for those travelling. The excursions are worth every penny and the Pina Coloada is a must, vitamin R....Great Job Memories Flamenco...
“Wonderful Memories ”
We visited this property November 7-14. I must say the food at this resort was much better than any other Cuban resort we have been too. The service was excellent. Staff friendly and some went above and beyond to help make our visit enjoyable. A special kudos to Karen! The mosquitos were TERRIBLE although I understand it is not the resorts fault it made for very irritable evenings and scratchy days. I had taken spray and after bite but it just did not do much to alleviate the many bites we both received. I had booked an ocean view room and was a little disappointed that most of the ocean was obstructed by the many trees. As I had read and was prepared for, there was not much of a beach and saw the look of disappointed of young families as they approached the beach for the first time. It was however nice to sit by the water and enjoy the ocean breezes. The value and cleanliness of this resort is top-notch. Memories is well worth the visit.
“Christmas/New Years in Cuba ”
We went to Cayo Coco in December 25, 2013-Jan 1, 2014. First time travelling outside of North America with our two children and had a great experience at the resort! First time in Cuba for us parents :) Beautiful beach!! There was lots of rock in front where the chairs are - but if you venture down the beach to the left there is lots of beautiful white sand and shallow waters for kids to play in. We brought our snorkel gear and did a lot of swimming around. Staff was super super great!!! We had upgraded to the Diamond Club and never had an issue getting a beach chair or pool chair. Food was so-so... but it was better than we expected! Rooms were always nice & clean. We had an ocean view room that wasn't too bad! The kids loved that the towels were made up fun for them everyday. Also in regards to the rooms... when we first arrived there was only one cot and a couch for the kids (2). My daughter wanted to sleep on the couch and it was no problem for her. We made it up into a bed with extra sheets in the closet. The next day when we came up from the beach we found our room had another cot added and beds made up beautifully for both kids. Not a word from any of us. Made my daughter so happy!! Great New Years party - BUT if you're planning on going to the buffet then arrive early! The line up was long and you could see the staff scrambling to replenish.
“Great value and wonderful staff!!! Recommended.”
We are a married couple in our late 50's and have travelled extensively in the Caribbean, in fact to most of the islands. For comparison purposes we have been to Cuba many times and would say Memories Flamenco is one of the better locations and resorts we have been to in Cuba. We have been to Sirenis La Salenis in Varadero, Melia Las Dunas in Cayo Santa Maria and Brisas Guardalavaca, Holguin and Memories Flamenco is preferred to these in our opinion. Playa Pesquero in Holguin is a better resort in our opinion. We usually travel in Jan but went in Nov this time as an "extra trip" The weather at this time of year was fantastic, the pool was a bit chilly. We flew with Sunning direct from Ottawa. We emailed the resort before leaving Canada and asked for an ocean view room in block 4. They responded and accommodated our request but we changed to Block 5 on arrival. Customs in Cuba went smoothly as always and it was a quick 15 minute bus ride to the resort! Room keys were given to us on the bus ride in so there was no lineups once at the resort! Fantastic on both accounts! The staff at this resort are PHENOMENAL, the best run resort in Cuba we have been to!!!!!!! It is difficult to pinpoint particular staff because they were all great but we must mention a few that were SIMPLY OUTSTANDING!. David, the manager Rooms division from Spain is very helpful and professional. Raphael the reception manager is wonderful and eager to please so if you have any issues speak to them. Karen in customer service is one of the best staff members we have ever met. She has a fantastic personality and is eager to help you in any way! Finally, Yoel one of the servers in the Creole restaurant and Israel and Roberto two of the bell boys are friendly , helpful and very professional. The beach was a bit disappointing and it has a lot of coral on it so water shoes are a must! Once you get past the coral after a few metres the beach is nice and sandy. If you walk past the activity hut to the right the beach is much nicer. An excursion to Pillar Beach is a MUST, one of the best beaches in all of Cuba! Walking to the left on the beach past Memories Flamenco is also a wonderful beach walk. Bugs were a bit problematic, maybe it was the time of year, we saw no evidence of spraying so take after bite and repellant! The rooms were large, the balcony was great and we had a spectacular view of the ocean and lagoon from our room 5317. The mini fridge was restocked daily with beer, water and pop. The nightly entertainment was good and we enjoyed the shows particularly the Cuban cultural show, the Michael Jackson show and the water aquatics show from Holguin! We have only one complaint. The food was really not that great and was somewhat overcooked and repetitive . We never ate at the buffet's at night as we really don't like buffet's or fighting the crowds. The buffet was excellent for breakfast . We made reservations for an a la carte restaurant every night by being polite and patient. Karen certainly helped at customer service. We are not sure why there is an issue over reservations, the a la carte restaurants were never that busy, often we would see 16 people in a restaurant that seats 50 or so. The food in the a la carte restaurants was ok but as said earlier a bit overcooked and repetitive. We were told by people we met that they had been to Memories one year ago and all the menu's were the SAME!! Monday there was a problem with the resort getting fresh produce from their supplier, there was no fruit that day. Lunch at the 24 hour grill was good however the food at the beach grill was INEDIBLE, it was that bad! Drinks were good, but especially at the lobby bar. We took our bubba mugs of course! There was good drink service at both the pool and beach. We found the Diamond Club not to be worth the extra cost, the "exclusive " beach was not worth it and we were told they ran out of "international " alcohol. We did not do any excursions except to Pillar beach and the local market by the hop on hop off bus for 5 CUC, and both were worth it! The departure bus was 40 minutes late and the SUNWING rep was no where to be seen to ask questions. The managers came to say good bye and even did a small dance for us which was a nice touch! We upgraded to the VIP lounge for 25 CUC each and it is recommended to avoid lines and get nice service while waiting to leave. All in all the resort is wonderful, the staff are fantastic and we would say it is the best run resort in Cuba. We highly recommend it and will go back!!
“Great Staff! Don't forget inspect repellent, waterproof shoes + a large flask! ”
We had a fantastic holiday at Memories Flamenco! The coach from the airport took 20 minutes and we were upgraded to the Diamond Club as a special Thomas Cook guest (I think Thomas Cook are new clients of the hotel). Diamond club meant we were allowed international alcohol, 2pm checkout (normally 12), a lobster dinner at one of the restaurants and also a reserved area of the beach with waiter service 10am-4pm. The hotel staff couldn't do enough for you they work very hard for their wages- always good to get some pesos in change to give them tips as they only make around 20 pesos per month. We left the staff our left over toiletries- they were really appreciative of international brands as the Cuban stuff isn't the best in strength for shampoo, deodarant, perfumes etc. We also left some clothes- they love Nike as you can't get this brand very easily in Cuba. The food at the buffet was good- I don't eat meat or dairy and still found a good selection of options- fresh salad bar, warm freshly baked bread, lots of vegetables, potatoes and pasta to fill me up! My partner loved all the seafood and there was plenty of meat options like skewers, hot pork sandwiches, stir fry's. The pools are fab and the pool bar is great with music playing and plenty of drinks flowing all day long. Make sure you take a large plastic cub or a flask- we didn't take one so all of our drinks were in the tiny plastic cups so were always running to the bar! All the Canadians were well prepped and had the large flasks that were perfect! Friendly hotel with a nice atmosphere for kids, couples and older guests- everyone mingles and the entertainment staff do well to get everyone together to participate in the activities. We loved the evening entertainment the dancers were brilliant. The only downside for me was the rooms, we were in block 4 and and although it was cleaned everyday, it was a little run down. The bathroom could also do with being updated. I'm not too fussy and the air con worked and towels were changed everyday so we were happy. Beds are 2 singles though so not ideal for a couple! Our balcony door didn't lock- we did tell reception but we didn't pester them about it as they have a safety deposit box so we weren't too bothered. You will need waterproof shoes to go into the sea as it's very rocky. Once you've walked out for 10 metres or so it's sandy and if you go in to the water from the pier it's much better. I took jelly shoes and was glad of them. We took the bus from the hotel to Pilla beach it took 1 hour and cost 5 pesos each return. The beach is amazing- clear water, power-like sand! It's a must visit!! I would recommend the hotel. The manager came on to our coach to say a special thank you which was a lovely touch on departure. Thanks for a great holiday Memories Flamenco!
“Good place to re-charge your batteries :)”
Good place to re-charge your batteries :) It is ! Really ! Calm, relaxing... That what I needed before busy craziness of the end of the year coming. Beautiful place, well maintained gardens, very decent. People are nice, friendly. Pina-Colada they make is the best!!! :) Coffee in the bar! Don't miss it! If you are there- start your day with that coffee! The resort is really for relaxation. Not much to see around. Only one town ( or city?) - Moron-is close by. All other excursions - about of touching the nature - snorkeling, catamaran trip, swimming with dolphins, etc. So, if you are looking for more informative trip - this is not for you. I'll have it next time, somewhere else. The place is very popular for weddings. Three different events happened during one week. The last one was the most romantic. And I said to myself: I will have mine here too. One day :) About the beach...some tips for you: it is very rocky, coral base, sharp and dangerous, so be sure you got with you your swimming shoes. And another thing: do not be much disappointed with beach front - just walk little to the right side by the shore and you will find just perfect sandy beach of another resort - Pestana Cayo Coco and you will enjoy it! Walking distance is about 5-7 min. only. Nobody will say a word for staying there. I had very relaxing, enjoyable vacation time. Thank you all- who made it !
“Great Resort and Great Value ”
Travelled with my husband, brother and 2 friends. We booked 1 month before and paid $720 pp/in tax. We paid extra for the Diamond Club and it was definitely worth it. Sunwing Service: At Toronto we had horrible service at the check in counter. We do not normally fly with Sunwing as we find other carriers have better service/perks. So we did not check out the baggage limit and we were 4kgs over so we paid $80. Yes this is our fault for not checking but for this reason I will not book again with them. I?m not a light traveler ? and I don?t think I should have to pay an arm and a leg for it. But the customer rep was super rude during the whole process and couldn?t explain their policy without even confusing herself. We saw MANY passengers re-packing and shifting their luggage. The airline will ALLOW you to take the extra weight; they just want to make a profit off it at the same time. Cheesy. In addition to this, our flight was changed from 6pm to 6am flight. Which then they decided to add a stopover in Santa Clara. I never fly stop over. I pay extra to avoid it. So I was annoyed by this, and that there was no compensation of any sort for this inconvenience. The hotel: This is Cuba, not Jamaica. So comparing is by Cuban standards. It was a nice resort obvious certain areas needed updating but over all very nice. The lay out didn?t entail too much walking or huge hills so it is pretty easy to get around. Also they have golf carts always going around and the guys will let you hop on if you?re heading the same way. They are pretty cool with it. Gardeners always friendly and planting a lot of new stuff so its going to look even better. Pools: Spent our time divided between the Pool with bar and the Deep Pool. The Pool with Bar is shallow. Like to your waist. This is somewhat annoying and you spend most of your time on your knees in the pool lounging. On the other hand just up the stairs is the Deep Pool (where they do the synchronized swimming show-which is really cool) is very nice but no bar. They need to address this issue. Especially if you pay for the Diamond Club. There should be a section by the Deep Pool that Diamond Club Members can get bar service. I don?t want to leave the pool every time I want a drink. There is someone who comes around to take orders ? we saw him/her twice our whole trip. We also mentioned this to the Memories Team who was taking feedback that week from vacationers. Also, no premium alcohol at this bar for the Diamond Club Members. Tsk tsk?.Memories you need to fix this ? Beach: We spent our first 2 days at the beach and that was it. Unlike us ?as we love the beach. The coral is a HUGE issue, but we read the reviews and knew this when booking so we are not upset. Just sucked. We brought water shoes ? a must. Not lying when I say the coral is sharp. People who didn?t want to look like fools in ugly swim shoes were wishing they had them after they did a tumble on the coral. If you walk down the left beach around the point there is s secluded area HUGE beach. It?s only a little trek (see from my pics) but worth it. Just fill your bubba?s and hike down. We snorkeled there for a bit and was decent. There is a Diamond Club Bar on the beach/chair area, but they do not have a big selection of premium alcohol and no blended drinks. Memories you need to installed an outlet ? and get a blender for slushy drinks please ? The far right side of beach they were digging up with a big machine while we were there. So that section was not in use but it will definitely be better in the future, they have done a lot of work. There is a gazebo there you can take pictures and jump off into the water. But from the machine digging the water is murky with sand, not clear how it usually is in Cayo Coco, and there was some jellyfish disturbed from the machine. Unfortunate, but again necessary for upgrades on the hotel. Rooms: We got an adjoining room with my brother. Rooms were decent. Blankets were somewhat stained and only white sheets. They did have some brown fuzzy blankets in the closet but they did not look very inviting so I steered clear of them. Our shower was sucky! Went from VERY hot to VERY cold every 10 seconds so it was a challenge to shower the first 2 days. I complained twice and it was fixed on the 4th day after I complained in person at the front, telling them I couldn?t shower anymore like that I was scalding myself. Fridge was always stocked with beer, pop and water. That was great. And maid service was on point everyday no problems there. I left our maid Janet perfume and makeup along with her tip and she was pretty happy. Being nice goes a long way ? Food: This is CUBA people so your food is not going to knock your socks off. But it was good, compared to other resorts in Cayo Coco. You definitely will not starve. The snack bar is always open and they have great fries, pizzas, sandwiches, fried chicken, shrimp and poutine! Breakfast at the buffet was ok, more bacon Memories! One tray does not last! Omelet station was good and fresh. Lunch buffet is good but they do a roast pig by the Deep Pool during the day that is AMAZING! They serve it with rice, salad and bread. I dream of this pork. So yummy! Dinner at the buffet was pretty good too. Pasta station, pizza station, grill meat/fish station. Don?t eat the premade pasta ? it sits there awhile. Just line up for the fresh made stuff you won?t regret it. The A la Cartes were good but some were just OK. They did however serve all the same thing basically, I guess it?s hard to create big menus. The sushi and tempura was good and was a nice surprise to have. Disco: Was really nice, it wasn?t air conditioned but it wasn?t crazy hot. You will survive. They play a lot of Spanish music. Not my thing so I was a little wall flower. They do take some requests. But don?t bank on it. It?s basically the same mix every night, you will get the order memorized by mid week lol Lots of comfy seats to sit if your get tired and the bathrooms are right outside, so convenient. Overall really fun when the dance crew from the resort comes in. Birthday Bonus: ?Celebrate your birthday with a bottle of sparkling wine and birthday cake?. Super disappointed with this one. Every year we go away in October for my husband?s birthday and it has become a tradition to go to Cuba. So I requested the Birthday bonus when booking. Friday we landed, Saturday was his birthday and we did not get the Champagne until Monday. See my comments on calling the conceriege above. When we got the bottle delivered to room, they gave us no Champagne glasses and we never saw the birthday cake. Diamond Club: I think it was worth it but Memories you need to inform your guests properly. ? We only found out about what was included in this Diamond Club by talking to other vacationers. NOT THE STAFF. This is such a big no no. If I am paying extra for a premium service such as VIP the conceriege needs to do a better job of explaining these perks and where they are. ? Check in/Check out was amazing. We received our envelope with room keys at the airport and literally just walked into the resort. No line ups! Super appreciated that as we hadn?t even slept in 2 days. Luggage was at our room ? NICE! And we had our own special VIP bus to and from airport. ? We did get a nice fancy bracelet and we became the snobs lol ? We did get a nice welcome drink- - wet towels would also be a nice addition to this perk Memories ? ? We didn?t find out about the Diamond Club section at the lobby bar until night 2. It is at the right side of the Lobby Bar and displays the premium alcohol. The Olmeca Chocolate Tequila is the bomb. I bought 2 bottles at the duty free. ? Apparently there is also a breakfast and lunch section for VIP but we were not told this until day 5 by one of the buffet staff. Would have been nice to know on day 1. ? I already stated above about the need for VIP waiter service at the Deep Pool. ? Premium Amenities in room: Our rooms didn?t seem anymore special then others, at other resorts the rooms are more upgraded. I wonder if other buildings had nicer VIP rooms?? ? Concierge service in the lobby: When secretly trying to sort out my husband?s birthday champagne it took many calls to reach someone. Was kinda annoying that when this person is away from their desk the line isn?t transferred to another rep. I know they need breaks etc but as a service to VIP guests this should always be available. ? VIP dinner: Yes this was very good and they had a Sax player. Food was the best this night, we had rock lobster. Don?t skip this Diamond Club Dinner. ? Exclusive lunch at one à la carte restaurant?..no one every told us about this? Would have been nice to know Memories when and where this was. Would definately go back and in no way did we have a bad time - just a super detailed review. I really recommend this resort and their great staff. Xx
“Was mislead about the beach but still my best in Cuba so far... ”
Let me start by saying that we traveled as young couple with a young 15 month old daughter. We stayed here from October 26th through November 2nd. I will leave my beach comments for the end of this review.... lol This was my 7th time in Cuba and first time in Cayo Coco. Very close to airport (15-20 min tops). Already checked in with room keys prior to boarding bus and I noticed that they accommodated my building request and floor (I didn't get the side I had asked for but the resort view was actually a lot more interesting so It worked out brilliantly). The grounds are immaculate; I cannot stress that enough. It is very clean and inviting and I find it to be of a very simple and practical layout with the pools being the center of the resort. Pools are nice; nothing spectacular, but does the job just fine. They did seem very slippery and there was a lot of dirt floating around so maybe they need to address that as I noticed others complain about it. We're not that picky but I can understand that some effort to improve that should be taken. While the animation team is around, you will have drinks service from the bartenders (keep in mind we went when the resort was not that busy so service was excellent the whole week in every part of the resort). Animation team was good; not too pushy and definitely would chit chat with you if you engage them and smile (those who complain about the staff probably have poor people skills or think that they hired butlers for a week.. lol). Food was by far the biggest surprise for us and surpassed all of our expectations, even after reading positive reviews about it. Everything was good; the pizza dough was great, the buffet had enough selection and I didn't even find it necessary to use the gentlemen at the fryers (maybe at breakfast for an omelet). . I actually found the food in the hot plates very tasty and I am still in shock over how well I ate (I'm not including fruits and vegetables in these comments as I did not eat many of those during my stay but I know you can have a smoothy if you wish). The snack bar was great for fast food type meals including pizza and the furniture was a surprise as it was not the cheap and uncomfortable stuff you find on most resorts. The restaurants were also pretty decent, but I have one big remark for the food management team: Please take the shrimp salad off of the menu at the creole restaurant!!! The sauce used does not have a good taste. We got it served to us twice because it was included in our Diamond Club dinner, but it really is not good. Both nights we noticed that the martini glasses used to serve it were all full when being picked up by the waiting staff. If you eat at the creole restaurant, order the fish Cayo Coco entree instead and you will not be disappointed. If someone complains about the food here they are ignorant and probably eat fast food daily. Theater was nice; decent shows and Michael Jackson show had good music obviously ;) We're not show people so can't say more about that but my daughter was in awe when we would stop a few minutes to watch. Kids club was pretty nice; we left our child there for two hours on two occasions and they really love kids there (thank you Lena and thank you Diane for the chit chat we had). Place is clean and as nice if not nicer than the daycare we attend at home. At Halloween night they took all the kids to dress up and eat with them which gave the parents a small break so that was nice to see. Drinks were good; nothing out of the ordinary. We drank Havana club 7 years and Crystal all week ad did the job just fine (a few mojitos and pina coladas also of course as we are in Cuba). I didn't really have access to more variety than the others so don't book Diamond Club for the alcohol. Cappuccinos are excellent. Management is always around and taking notes it seems. They seem accessible and came to see us off in the bus when we left. If you want to buy cigars, go to the Colonial hotel market at the Casa del Habano. Cost us 15 CUCs for a taxi who waited for us and we were there and back in under an hour. We did not go to Pilar beach this time. Now for my biggest disappointment: As you may read from others, the actual beach front is horrible. My only real disappointment with this hotel is that we were mislead about how bad the beach really is. Prior to booking I had e-mailed the hotel to explain to them that we heard so many great comments, but we really value a great beach when choosing a hotel and we were having concerns due to the renovations taking place as we were traveling with a child (we really don't mind the coral and all that comes with it as it creates a beautiful habitat for the sea life to witness). I still have the e-mail response saying that we should not worry about the renovations because all the services have been move to the other section of the beach. Well the other section of the beach is really no place for a child to play as it's pretty dangerous for adults, let alone children. And nobody was really cleaning up the huge amounts of seaweed accumulating along the shore which really did not add to the already sub-par beach experience. It is really bad and as I mentioned earlier, we really are not picky so it takes a lot for me to get upset. I understand that it's the job of the staff to make sure people visit the resort, but I do not think that lying to them is a good idea. If we would have been told the truth then maybe we still would have visited this resort anyways and would not have had this huge disappointment. I guess what I'm trying to say is that we chose this hotel based on the response from the hotel and I would have much rather received an honest answer stating that they are working hard to improve the beach, but that it would not be in perfect condition. If we would have been given the truthful response to my e-mail, I would have given this hotel 5 stars + for a Cuban hotel. I still think this is the best staff I have ever encountered in hotel in any country :) As you can see; when and if the beach will be finished, this will be one of the best hotels in Cuba. I know my review ended in a negative tone, but only because we were mislead prior to our visit, but I would encourage anyone to visit without any hesitation after the beach situation is taken care of. Thanks for reading and hope this helps someone. Photos to follow.
“Returning very soon..... ”
We stayed at the Memories Flamenco from October 23rd to the 30th. Arrived in the morning (in the rain) via a pleasant, on time, Sunwing flight. Breezed through the airport formalities and were on the bus in no time. Arrived too early to be given our rooms, so passed about 90 minutes or so in the lobby bar (always great service with a smile) until getting our room card at 1PM, at the promised time. While we had brought our swim wear in our carry-on bags because we assumed we would have a wait for our room, unfortunately the weather was not conducive to sitting by the pool. Our room was a garden-view, ground floor in Building 5, and while is was a fairly long walk to the Buffet, Lobby and Theatre, the exercise was not unwelcome, except at times of pouring rain, which we had quite frequently during our first 3 days. Carrying a flashlight in the evening is a very good idea because there are areas where the walkway is quite dark, especially during rainy or cloudy nights. Our room was quite spacious and the maid service did a very good job. Early in the week, we returned to our room to get ready for dinner only to find that the A/C was not working (I suspect that a nearby lightning strike caused a power surge which in turn blew the circuit board on the controller). I called the Customer Care Line, and within a couple of minutes, a repairman was at the door. He removed the old controller and returned within 5 minutes and installed a new one. Less than 10 minutes later, the Customer Care Desk called to ensure that the problem had been taken care of. We were impressed! Because we were Diamond Club, we ate in a reserved area in the buffet and had outstanding service from Limay and Roylan during each breakfast and lunch. The breakfast buffet was excellent and was probably our favourite meal each day. Nothing like starting your morning with a chilled Mimosa! We enjoyed the buffet more than our three a-la-carte dinners. We spent one morning at the beach before the heavens opened up, and quite frankly, although we were prepared for the coral and had read many reports of the state of the beach, particularly at the Diamond Club area, we were surprised how bad it actually was. It was painful for us just watching people trying to get into the water without water shoes?I don?t know how they did it. We were also surprised at the size and numbers of jellyfish swimming around. As others have mentioned, the further left you walk, the better the beach. Our disappointment in the beach had us spending fair weather days at the lower pool. The bar staff there were great, as were the pool attendants. We could not have asked for any better service. We were appalled at some of the attitudes of guests in the pool area?like letting youngsters openly urinate around the loungers, on the loungers/towels and on the shrubbery. We don?t understand how parents and grandparents of those children can think that it is ?cute?. We saw two of the evening shows and thought that they were absolutely fantastic, and enjoyed interacting with the entertainers during the day as they visited with guests around the pool and elsewhere. In general terms, the staff, throughout the resort, were outstanding. The smiles and attitudes were infectious and very much appreciated every day. We are returning to the Flamenco in early January for a week and are taking our children, their spouses and our grandchildren with us for a family winter vacation. There will be 9 of us in four rooms. We very much look forward to returning, and to seeing many familiar faces again.
“Had my wedding here ”
If you're planning a wedding in Cuba, this isn't a bad place to go. It's a beautiful resort and the staff is wonderful. This is definitely a wedding hot spot. They had at least 5 during the 7 days we were there. I would say that they give you everything they promise, but you have to ask for it. The room upgrade, champagne in your room, private dinner for 2, breakfast in your room the morning after your wedding....everything. So make sure you print off everything that you're expecting or are entitled to because they don't give you those things unless you ask. As for the wedding, they did a phenomenal job. I couldn't have asked for more. The customer service we got from Karen was above reproach. She was absolutely outstanding! If there is anything you need while here, ask for her. If anyone from the resort reads this, please let her know she is the reason we have nothing but good things to say about Memories Flemenco. The day of our wedding, the tide came in fast and high and washed away our ceremony location. Morphy was quick and efficient and had our location relocated, decorated and ready to go in under an hour's notice. Great job! We had 45 people attend our wedding and I haven't heard a single complaint. Just a tip: ask for a room in bungalow 1,2,3 or 4. Everything else is just too far away. As for the beach, it's gorgeous! This resort has been excavating all the coral and it's turned into the nicest beach I've ever stayed at any resort. Bring bug spray. The resort manually sprays every night, but before they can cover the entire grounds, you're practically breathing in Mosquitos. After they spray you won't see any, so it's not a problem. It's just for about an hour a night. The Mosquitos are absolutely wicked. Overall, thank you Memories Flemenco! You definitely made us proud we chose you for our wedding.
“"Special memories of Memories Flamenco" ”
I returned yesterday from Memories Flamenco after spending a relaxing and enjoyable week with my in-laws (late 60's), my wife, and my two children (boy 9, girl 8). The previous reviews of this property are fairly accurate: food very good, staff excellent, resort lay-out fantastic, entertainment great, excursions worth it. I feel rested and entertained and it was a great way to reconnect with my family. The greatest compliment I can give the resort is that there is simply no other vacation package that has more bang for your buck. My wife and I feel that we owe them money. We simply had a fantastic vacation with fond memories! In closing, I just want to say that there is only one reason that I did not give the resort a five out of five rating, and that is the beach. WARNING: If your anticipated vacation has any kind of idyllic vision of a beautiful beach scene which includes the ability to splash around in the water with your kids, on a beach with close proximity to the hotel, DO NOT COME HERE. You cannot experience this kind of beach experience at this hotel. That being said, if you do not mind taking an hour bus ride to one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen (Pilar), this is the hotel for you. To all the staff at Memories Flamenco, fabulous job, you should be proud, best service I have experienced in 20 years of travel.
Just got home from this Resort, went Oct. 29th until Nov. 5th. Gorgeous resort, staff is friendly and helpful when they can understand you. Arrived at twelve noon, didn't get our room until 4 pm then key card wouldn't open the door, they chaged card three to four times then found out the front desk people weren't loading card properly, finally got in, our daughter in a room below us had same problem, very tiring! On our second day there I tripped on a cement lip up by the lobby bar near the theatre, hurt my knee quite badly. Noticed several of these cement lips throughout resort, they should be beveled , vey easy to trip on them! Heard another person had fallen also. They should have these fixed, just bevel them off with cement! Made it hard for me to climb the three flights of stairs to our room! Rooms are very nice and spotlessly clean. Maids do a great job especially Maria! We had room 3306 and kept smelling a bad smell like sewer gas, seemed to be coming from the sink, we had to keep sink plugged. Entertainment is very good! Food in buffet is good but you get tired of it, also gets a little sparse at times! Beach is not good because of corral but they were working on it. Also a note to Sun Wing please serve drinks before food, I was so thirsty after my lunch on board I couldn't talk and the stewardess took her time serving drinks and stopping to talk along the way,by the time I got my drink I could have drank everything on her cart and All I got was a half glass of ginger ale which I drank down before she ever left my seat!
“Awesome FamilyTrip!!! ”
I know its a bit late as we went to this resort a while ago it was Jan 2014, but it was such a great trip it still sticks in my mind. We actually had planned this trip for our daughters 10th birthday and what a great birthday it was. This was our first time ever going on a trip to Cuba we have been to the Dominican once as well. I would 100% go to Cayo Coco before I would go back to the Dominican, I have never felt so safe in an airport before... didn't even have to worry about my daughter. Greatest thing was getting on the bus and already having our room tickets and bracelets for the hotel and our dinner reservations... what a time saver!! Of course don't forget drinks on the bus :-) Arrived at the hotel and we were greeted with the song that still sticks in your head, we all still know the dance moves...lol and the yummy drink that they give you when you get there was delicious. Our room was on the first floor which I had asked for the second floor as I was told by others that the first floor has bugs... well let me tell you that was the cleanest hotel room I don't think I ever even saw a bug...not even a little ant. And I hate bugs!! The walk from our room to the main lobby and to dinner was not all that far maybe 5 minutes but it was nice after eating all that food all the time. The beach is just beautiful even with the coral that is what makes it so unique, just wear your water shoes and all is good. No big deal many people seem to make a big deal about it but who cares. When the tide goes out during the day it is pretty cool to walk along the beach and check out under the dock to see all the sea life a little closer up. We had great drinks and awesome service at the lobby bar everynight before dinner, they even have set up a little martini station by the stairs and the chocolate martini is to die for. We ate all of our meals at the buffet everyday as we had heard that the dinner reservations were not that spectacular it was the same food as the buffet but placed differently on your plate. We also had a few lunches at the little restaurant by the pool they have some pretty great stuff as well. If you are not much of a drinker you will love the kids red slushy with rum... oh so yummy, just becareful that you don't mix it up with your kids drink...lol My husband loved the coffee in the lobby bar in the morning all the different kinds you can try and just watching them make it is such fun. We met a whole lot of people and had so much fun even our daughter said she wanted to come back to this resort one day. On her birthday which was the day before we left the staff had organized to bring a cake down to the beach bar and they all sang for her, she will never ever forget that party :-) She said it was the best birthday ever!! Our maids for the rooms were so nice and welcoming and they appreciated greatly everything we brought for them, my daughter even made some rainbow loom bracelets in Canadian colours they just thought they were the best gifts ever. The little shop by the pool has some beautiful stuff, didn't even have to leave the resort to get our gifts. We did one excursion which was on a Catamaran and got to go scuba diving and ate lobster also stopping at a secluded island for a dip. Nice to see all the beautiful sea life up close. The people on the Catamaran are so nice and super fun., My daughter even tried the lobster for the first time in her life and loved it. It was a great day trip. We walked around the point to the left of the resort on the beach and it is beautiful and quiet over there, but be sure if you are walking to bring your sunscreen as it gets hot and you get burnt very quickly. Nice when the tide goes out and you can walk for miles and see starfish up close and little crabs and jelly fish little baby ones, just be careful... wear your water shoes as well. My daughter wanted to go horseback riding for her birthday so we found out you can organize to go to the hotel down the way and ride there. A horse drawn carriage picks you up and takes you there the ride is about 1/2 hour you get to ride your horse when you get there on the beach how cool is that and you also get to see what the other resort is like... we are glad we didn' t stay there it was one of our choices, very run down. All said and done the hotel is beautiful and run very smoothly if there is a problem they are all over it, the entertainment at night is wonderful and educational all at the same time, the Michael Jackson show is the best I have ever seen they do a wonderful job. The food is excellent, we didn't get sick at all like we did when we went to the Dominican. The one thing I will say is the resort could have a bit more fun things to do for kids especially the ones who are just a single kid we checked out the kids club and it was way too babyish for her and there was no one her age. But if you looked around the pool or the beach there were tons of kids her age, bugging their parents cause they wanted someone to play. I was iffy about going to a resort with kids as the last time we went we were at an adults only one and the kids at the hotel next door were loud and running all over the place the parents were not even paying attention to them, but here was different half the time I didn't even notice that there were kids even there they were good and quiet. The gardeners are always doing something to make it more beautiful we can't wait to go back again :-)
“Awesome Honeymoon! ”
My husband and I had our Honeymoon here in October of 2014. I had an awesome time at this resort! The only down falls was the beach. If you go, bring water shoes!!!! And lots of bug spray. The coral and rocks at the beach are very rough. The only benefit is they are working on fixing that and they told us they estimate it will be fixed by end of this year! Everything else was very enjoyable!!! The staff is tremendous and the hotel is very clean and beautiful! The food is great and the a la carte restaurants are delicious! I will definitely be returning! (I would have given a 5 star if the beach was better) We also did a half day trip into Moron which was definitely worth the money! We took a horse and buggy ride through the city, got some time at the local shops and took an amazing speed boat ride through a beautiful canal!!
“Memories Oct 25-Nov 1 ”
I visited Memories with my 3 boys ages 15,13 and 11 from Toronto Oct 25-Nov 1. I heavily rely on reviews from Tripadvisor when picking a vacation spot, so I feel I should return the favour with an honest review! I have travelled quite a bit over the past 13 years to various resorts in Cuba (4 times) and DR (3) and Mexico (1). Most hotels were rated a 4*, one was 3.5 and a couple 5. I find the ratings were all pretty accurate for all the properties, but for differing reasons. The only really disappointing thing about this hotel, was the beach. Out of all the 9 resorts I have been to it was my least favorite. This could be attibuted to the time of year, high tides and winds....maybe it almost unswimmable some days, not much sand beach, dirty, couldn't see the bottom - definately not what you picture of a beach in Cayo Coco (I have been before). So, if you are picking a resort and want a nice beach - don't go here. We did however take the catamaran out to snorkel at the reef, and saw some nice fish, but I have also experienced much better off shore snorkelling at other resorts. Watersports were not open every day, but not because of weather there just didn't seem to be anyone there other than a security guard and he said it was closed. Beach bars are apparently only for "Diamond" club (which we were not), but they still served us - maybe due to the beach conditions and constuction but I'm not sure. I heard the machine grinding on several occasions, you can hear it all over the resort when its going...and saw it a few times when we walked down to the beach too. So if you want to swim you need water shoes, I saw many frustrated people trying to get in without them! It's a shame to be getting rid of the coral and all the sea life that lives it in, we snorkelled up to shore on the one day it wasn't too wavy and there are lots of things living in the rocks and coral...be careful you don't step on the urchins too there are tons of them! We saw a lot of crabs and one jellyfish close to shore. Not a lot of fish unless you are furthur out but its not very clear with the waves so hard to see anything. So enough about the beach, its been mentioned in most reviews anyways! Food - best I have had in Cuba! The buffet isn't huge but if you do the 3 a la cartes (which were very good in my opinion!) you won't be at the buffet every night and can always try something different. We even did the snack bar for dinner one night. The snack bar was great for lunch, we missed the beach lunch all together it wasn't well advertised. Buffet good for breakfast, I ate way more than I ever needed to....if anyone complains about the food here they are really picky! It may be a little different than back home, but the best Cuban resort I have eaten at by far! Drinks - so so, depending on the day sometimes they would be a little more fancy, lobby bar had the nicest drinks. Beach and pool bars the little crappy plastic cups with watered down drinks that you never get drunk on ;) Wine at lunch and dinner was good for an AI though and to buy a bottle of something nicer was reasonable which we did on my birthday. Coffee great at the lobby bar and the coffee/martina bar which we happened to stumble across in the evening set up outside made awesome coffees but I didn't discover it till the 2nd last day. Rooms - standard, bathrooms (shower) could use an update. But our cleaning lady was so sweet and did an awesome job on both our rooms - I gave her 40 pesos for the week for both rooms. Water pressure so so, when hot cold constantly...one room seemed better than the other as far as pressure. Pools - I found the pools a little dirty. At other resorts I have been to they are cleaning them every open like clockwork and you can almost smell chlorine, not here though, I didn't get a really "clean" feeling about the pools at all and also in much need of repair to tiles and lighting. 3 pools, all on the smaller side, but OK size for the resort. Not a busy time of year but still hard to find shade unless you get up early and reserve your spot! Entertainment/service - this resort had the best nighttime entertainment of any I have been to so far, dancers were amazing and work so hard! Daytime entertainment/activities were also well done and the animation team do a great job (some days you don't see much of them however, but keep in mind they work long hours!). Landy, Carlos and the team were funny and kept the people around the pool entertained in the morning and late afternoon with acitivites if you wish to participate. Front desk staff very helpful and the management team seemed to be very involved with daily operations of the resort. Doctor - unfortunately we had to use the services of the nurse/dcotor on the last day when my son stepped on glass outside the lobby bar and was gushing blood. They fixed him up (with some tears from him and eye) and he was fine within a couple hours. So overall, this resort was exactly what we expected for the price. Small, good for young kids, great service and entertainment, good food for Cuba, close to airport. We had a lot of fun but probably wouldn't go back just because of the beach, and the fact that I like to try new places. Keep up the good work Memories, we had a great time!
“Lovely resort ”
Was at Memories Flamenco the week of 23rd Oct. It is a lovely resort, very clean, lovely gardens, great entertainment , rooms are lovely and food in buffet very good, so we basically had a good time. However a few not so good points. The beach is terrible, we upgraded to Diamond Club, so we expected a really nice section of beach, we were sadly mistaken. It is very rocky , hardly any sand at all. \We got a Lobster dinner as diamond club, It was dreadful, the only thing we could eat was the soup . It was supposed to be Lobster and steak, the over cooked mush Lobster came with a sort of beef stew, very disappointing. On arrival we got allocated a room at the far end of the complex , we had booked a garden view and got a room over looking 4 trees and a tennis court, I did get the room location changed after being told by front desk staff ,that I should be more careful what I book and they would give me another room that was far beyond the grade I had booked. I found out later, that all the rooms are the same and the upgrade to Diamond club means more free toiletries and pool towels in the room., I will say that after talking to the Sunwing rep we were sent an apology and gifts were sent to our room. On the whole we did have a nice vacation and the remainder of our vacation was lovely and the staff were great
“HIGHLY RECOMMENDED... WOULD RETURN IN A HEART BEAT!! THE BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!! A++”
My friend and I stayed at this resort July 27-Aug 4, 2014 and had a wonderful vacation from start to end. I contacted the resort prior to my arrival for some request and they replied PROMPTLY to me and all my requests were meet. i was very pleased!!The flight was good, we got a little delayed boarding the plane but we are on vacation so no stress. They also serve champaign on sunwing and lunch which was nice. The ride from the airport is very short maybe 20-30 minutes which is also nice! Our first morning we attended the information meeting and I was truly impressed that the ALL OF THE management attended the meeting to welcome guests and introduce themselves. The general manger Jesus was sweet and sincere, he made himself approachable and was always honest! This was a nice touch when they have guests arriving daily and take the time to do this; clearly this kind of attention is reflected in the service at this resort as the staff are lead by example. The meeting was informative, not a big sales push for excursions and was kept short. Diamond Club: When i booked this trip, they had a promotion for a free upgrade to diamond club which we obviously took. It was a nice touch, you get a separate greet when you arrive at the hotel with welcome drinks. You get a vip area on the beach with butler service. You also had discounts of spa etc and access to premium drinks and a special section in the bar. I am not sure how much diamond club cost... is it mandatory? maybe not, but it was definitely a nice bonus!! Rooms: the resort is very large and has 10 buildings for accommodation, we were in building number 2 which was right outside the main pool and pretty central to everything. It was also close to the snack bar opened LITERALLY 24 HOURS... YUM...LOL. The rooms are very nice and quite spacious; it was nice we had two separate beds with the nightstand in between. loved this setup. The bed was comfortable with 2 pillows but we asked for extra pillows and received them with no hassle. The rooms are kept spotlessly clean and are cleaned daily, even the balcony is swept out and cleaned daily. Food: the choice of food is excellent, the buffet is wonderful with a huge array of selections at every meal. I would find it difficult to believe that anyone could complain as there had to be something that would meet every requirement/taste. They had cook to order stands of meat, and pasta, etc and it was nice to customize your dish. All the servers and waiter were VERYYY PLEASANT! The a la carte restaurants were not the best that I have had but again satisfactory and you can always return to the buffet if you didn't enjoy the meal. if you are going to buffet try and go early as they have an opening mini show each night deepening on the theme. it was great. I am a picker eater and found something to eat all the time! Bars: the bars have a really nice ambience especially the lobby bar that is very relaxing. The drinks were great, no complaints with the wine, wonderful mimosas, cappuccinos and the cocktails were really good - no watered down drinks here, they were very strong. The drinks are no consistent at each bar but i don't mind because they all taste really good. Snack Bar: open 24 hours served a great pixxa and pasta during the day and fries. They tend to serve selected things after 12midnight, which i had no problem with. This feature was great and you could take the food back to your room if you desired. Grounds: The gardens and landscaping are beautiful, they have done an amazing job in 2 years, the gardeners are always seen working hard all day. The pool is very nice and the water was a great temperature all the time. The shows were very good and the animation team were very friendly. The Michael Jackson show is very well done. Special kudos to Alex on the animation team... amazing dancer and friendly personality. Beach: The beach is very nice BUT has stones and reefs therefore THEY HAVE FISH. This could be good or bad. It was nice for those who have children, without going deep you could see mini fishes; however my friend was terrified of the fishes so unfortunately she didn't get to fully experience the beach. I spoke to employees about this and they told us that the resort was working on removing the stone and reefs in a few months so the beach should be great by now! Excursions: We only did one excursions because we were having to much fun on the resort. We went to PILAR beach!!! it was breathe taking and is known as one of the nicest beaches in he world and i would have to agree. amazing beach. You can pay 10 pesos for a bed which is nice. NIGHTLIFE: There is a disco on site. The dj was good although the music got receptive after day 5. The nightclub had young children under 10 and it was odd. There should be an age limit in effect. The club was not as lively as it could be as many people didn't go after the night show. Maybe a little bit more advertising and pushing from entertainment could make this club BETTER. I went almost every night as i love to dance, even one of the entertainers were dancing with me which was fun. I made the best from it and i was having a blast with who was there!! OVERALL:This resort is operated with efficiency, outstanding customer service, friendly and welcoming staff and attention to detail. I would recommend this resort, it is definitely a book with confidence resort and I would return if I were to visit Cayo Coco in the future. Just keep in mind it is situated on a island of Cuba so it does not have much surrounding the resort as Varadero or Havana would. I would def recommend and it is def worth every dollar. I have recommended this report to 2 friend already who have gone and have enjoyed it and i will continue to tell them Great job to this resort!!
“Going back Feb 2015 ”
Stayed at Memories Flamenco last Feb. Loved it so much going back this Feb with they whole family. Food was great staff was amazing ,rooms were big and clean. As far as the beach there was coral but we never used water shoes and had no problem. Short walk and the beach goes forever with no coral. My kids have never traveled so there will be 7 going this year. All I can say is this resort make you feel like family. Cant wait see everyone in feb. We were in building 5
My friends and I visited this resort from Nov 14-21, 2014. We booked this trip about a month before we left and were excited about the deal we got. But we felt we got so much more. Only about a 15-20 mins ride from the airport! The Beach: Yes as other reviewers have stated, it's got a part of it where you should have water shoes, they did do their best w/ the removal of coral but it's still not a soft sandy entrance. There are several options to enter into the ocean, including the walkway, or walk a little further down the beach on either the left or right side. Really, not a deal breaker (for us at least). There was sand just past the coral parts and the water was always warm and welcoming! One of the things I appreciated, was the staff on the beach who offered to get chairs for you, place them where you want it, clean up after messy/thoughtless visitors (disappointed with the visitors who treated the beach like it was a garbage dump/ashtray). I did not tip them until the end of my trip to see if it would affect the level of service I received. It did not. Pleasant, friendly service with a smile everyday. The Rooms: We stayed in building 2, facing the pool area on the ground level. The rooms were very big, very clean, and came with toiletries (shampoo, bath soap, bar soap), in-room safe, ironing board/iron, extra blankets, beach towels (really liked that I didn't have to go and pick these up), hair dryer, sufficient closet/drawer space, telephone, tv (with some canadian channels!), desk, small fridge that had beer/cola and a big bottle of water. Housekeeping did an excellent job everyday, despite us bringing in sand into our room even though we tried our best not too, it was gone the next day (even on our terrace!). There were only 2 times where I didn't have hot water during my shower, more like warm, but it didn't bother me as I found it refreshing after spending the day on the beach. I could see how this would be annoying but have had to take cold showers at hotels in Canada. They also do offer laundry service for a fee. The Grounds: Immaculate. Everyday there was someone working on the grounds, whether it was cleaning up the plants, manicuring the bushes, etc. The flowers around the resort were beautiful! We also loved that the resort wasn't huge. Just the right size, and easy to navigate. Located in building 2, were felt we were close to everything: the beach, the pools, the lobby bar, reception area, buffet. We did not visit the gym or spa area so can't really say how "far" they were or what they were like. The Food: Having been to Cuba several times before, I knew what to expect, and I'm probably one of the few who don't mind the food in Cuba, mainly because I love fresh veggies, fish and fruit. This resort took it to the next level for me. Excellent food. There was always something to eat, and you won't go hungry. Yes it may get repetitive, but you won't go hungry. I always went to get fresh eggs (omelet, scrambled, etc) every morning! We found the desserts to be amazing, and started to head to the desserts first before getting our food! The snack bar was reliable, hotdogs, hamburgers, fried fish, pizza and fries when we needed something to hold us over before meals, and if you get a chance, try the paella/snapper on the beach! Truly loved that they offered this. The Lobby bar. I really loved this bar not only for the drinks both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. Cafe con leche was just the best, and I later tried their iced coffee. Heaven. The service here was again excellent, and I really appreciated that I was remembered enough that they knew what I liked, and how I liked it even before me putting in my drink order. Truly felt like I was home. We only went to one a la carte which was the creole. It was delicious, and the service was great. Entertainment: What set this place apart from the other resorts I've been too were the entertainment team during the day (poolside & beach). They were really good at getting people involved but fully respected those who didn't want to participate. I did not experience pestering and didn't see it happen to others who just wanted to watch or mind their own business. I've been to other resorts where the entertainment staff did not respect if you literally wanted to "do nothing". There were nightly shows which we didn't see every night, but saw a couple. They do an excellent job, and you can tell that they practice and want to make sure they have an excellent performance. Caught a peak of the shows they do for the kids and it was excellent. The lady who runs the kids club does an excellent job. One other "feature" that really got our attention and became a factor of why we chose to stick with the buffet for dinner was the live music. We loved the live music at the buffet. Whether it was the piano, sax, singers, jugglers, dancers, etc, we were always happy to enjoy this while having our meals. Again, I loved that it was there, but they weren't in our faces waiting for a tip. We've been to a couple All-Inclusive resorts where live music/entertainment was offered during the buffet but it was intrusive and were literally given a basket for "donation" while we are eating. We felt that the performances at the buffet were beautiful, well thought out, and just that "it" factor that sets this resort apart from the others. Kudos to all the musicians, singers and performers. Having been to Cayo Coco before we didn't bother doing any of the day trips offered with Sunwing since we have done them before. We spent the entire time on the resort and beach and didn't get bored or feel like we had to leave. The only "trip" we did, was with Eric who runs the water sports (kayak, catamaran, paddle boats etc) who took us out to the reef for a nominal fee where we had an amazing time snorkelling for about an hour (only 15 mins from shore). We did this because the snorkelling off the beach wasn't enough for us. Internet: I didn't personally use the Wifi ($6 CUC per hour) but my friends did, it was sometimes slow and sometimes fast, but good enough to check emails, etc. and it was only available in the lobby. The only gripe we had, the little store they had on site where the hours are supposed to be from 9am-9pm (we confirmed this with the front desk) never was open until 9pm. There were three times where we showed up around 8:30pm to buy snacks and cigars and the doors were locked. Lights on and we can see the workers inside, but they didn't answer/unlock the doors even though we knocked, along with other people who wanted to purchase items. One night we sat outside and waited and the staff promptly came out at 9pm, locked the doors and left for the night. This act really annoyed my friend who refused to buy any cigars or go into the store for the rest of the week. Aside from the store, we all agreed that what really makes this resort are the staff. Not once did we experience negative attitude, everyone we walked past always smiled or said "hola!" and not once did we feel obligated to tip. In my opinion, this is what sets this resort above the rest. I received excellent service whether I tipped or didn't tip. As a practice for me, I don't start tipping until about 1/2 way through my trip (only to truly gauge service, and only tip when I feel they truly deserve it. For this trip I started tipping early, and I tipped right up until we left. Also, I have never been to any resort or hotel where the managers are visible. The resort manager greeted us during our briefing with our Sunwing rep, several times I saw the manager at the buffet making sure we were happy with the food, and the manager was at the resort when we were waiting for our bus to the airport and actually saw us off. So very impressed. This staff from the bottom to the top really care. All in all, we all agreed that we'd gladly come back to this resort again! We did not upgrade to Diamond Club so I can't comment on if this is worth it, but I'd like to see how service can get better that what we got! We came here to unplug, "do nothing" and recharge and Memories Flamenco made it happen.
“Life changing ”
I had stayed here with a group of 22 and met another group of 50+, I would be writing for both parties as I met quite a few of them on our stay. The clientele was amazing, the pool bar was a great time with the two best bar tenders Aries and Orlando. The excursions I heard were awesome and greatly priced. Overall as I was there for my best friends wedding as the best man and met a beautiful lady from close to my hometown, the vvibe from this resort will clear your mind and relax your body and soul. “Dream family vacation! ”
This was our first vacation as a family. We stayed Nov 6-14. We had an amazing time! Exceptional on all levels! The staff was incredible, so friendly and helpful, perhaps the best customer service I have ever received. They never minded helping no matter what the request was. The beach, pools, and activities were excellent. The food was great, lots of variety and very tasty contrary to many of the reviews I read before we left. I have recommended Memories Flammenco to all my friends and family. My husband and kids enjoyed every minute! Thank you so much! In fact my husband and I are planning to come back next year just the two of us. Can't wait to see you again!
“Best Resort ever! ”
I visited this resort in May and by far it's the best place I have ever been to. What makes this Resort so especial is the staff that work. I have to mention some of them that have become really good friends Omar, Yaimaris and Lianna from diamond club always taking care of diamond guests. Yusdailys, try to find her at thr buffet she is amazing and will make you laugh. Alexei in the beach, Morffy and sissi at public relations. Thanks to all of you that work and all the staff from Memories Flamenco for making my holidays the best holiday ever.
“Everything was great! ”
My 3 friends and I arrived in mid-October. Almost everything was wonderful in this resort. The only bad thing was the beach and the weather but nonetheless, I am still giving a 5 star review because upon booking for this vacation, I had already heard about the beach renovation and everyone had already warned me that October is usually rainy there so, I was prepared for those two downsides. This is my 1st time in Cuba and even though you hear about the horror stories about their food, Memories Flamenco was very good. My friends have been to Cuba but it is also their first time in this resort and they said it is the best food they've had in Cuba. Buffet was good, A la carte was good. As for the actual state of the resort, everything is well maintained. My room was in Building #5 (closer to the beach) Garden view and it was very peaceful. Mostly away from the busier parts of the resort. Everything in the room was also in great condition, no rotting, no moldy smell, just fresh and clean. Public areas are very clean as well. I see about 10 different gardeners every day, maintaining everyday, they all work very hard. Entertainment was AMAZING! That entertainment crew of theirs is something else! They wake up early to announce the events during breakfast buffet, they have entertainment at the pool, at the beach and after that they play soccer/basketball with the guests, some of them practice for the night entertainment. They have about 2 entertainment shows a night, every night! They take a dinner break and then they do the show. Some of them also stay to entertain during disco night which is also every night. KUDOS to the entertainment team, very very hard working! Shout out to Lanny/Lani/Lanni, the 2nd entertainment manager. He is a wise man!! He takes care of his entertainment staff, what a wonderful man he is! Bartenders and servers were so polite. Some people (the tourists) do get rowdy from the unlimited drinks but the service team stay calm and still try and give everyone a good time. My friends and I mostly ordered from the seafood grill section of the buffet and once we get in, those grillers just know what to make already and the servers would save us our usual table. They payed attention to us, 100%! Every need, every want, they took care of it. Overall, you could never go wrong with this choice. Even if you had something to recommend, look for Raul Gallego if you need anything. I believe he is the Floor/Community Manager. He will take the time to listen to your review in person. He is committed in making the hotel even better than it already is. Definitely a trip worth taking again!
This is the first time I've ever travelled. Reading other reviews I was prepared for less than average food, but to my surprise, the food was yummy, the staff were so friendly and helpful, they made you feel welcome, the shows at night were amazing!!! They had many activities at the pool and the beach, for adults and the children! There was something for everyone!!!! I'm looking forward to coming back!!! I've been singing the memories theme song since I've come home :)
“Memories Flamenco is constantly improving ”
This is the 3rd time we visit this property and I can genuinely commend the management team and the employees, you are making this place a true paradise. From the reception to the room upkeep to the buffet to the a la carte all are getting better. Even the beach has been worked on the right hand side is now all sandy , left hand is natural with some stones for approximately 5 meters width which is ok with me. This gives the diamond club location a bit more privacy. We invited another couple to join us this time around and they were also impressed witht he level of service. The food was also improved in the buffet , complements to chef Ruben. The general manager Jessus was away for the week e were there and I was happy to see that the service still was excellent and the culture of the employees is well intrenched so that they serve with a smile and make your stay splendid. The assistant GM David met us with a smile and offered a room upgrade ,however we were content with our room on the ground floor close to everything beach , pool, buffet yet away from the hustle and bustle. building number 6. As for the entertainment crew they were excellent , te pool show had some lighting problems but they did an excellent job with what they had. Bar tenders were courteous and even when didn't tip them to test their resolve they still served with a smile . I have to say these people are the most friendly , although Cuba is all friendly they are a notch above. Needless to say we had the time of our lives and enjoyed every minute of our vacation.I recommend this property without reservation
“A beautiful place for our 5 day getaway! ”
We visited Nov 7-12, with a Diamond Club upgrade. We were a group of three thirty yr old old girlfriends catching up with the sun for a few days, leaving families at home. Positives: I would go back to this hotel in a heartbeat. A newer property, very well maintained. The staff was very hard-working and friendly. Service was very fast, faster than I remember on any other all-inclusive resort. Staff was constantly cleaning - the place was spotless. The food was surprisingly good (good fresh seafood in particular), and a large variety to satisfy different tastes. Bacon and mimomas for breakfast every day were great. All parts of the hotel were fully functional despite low season. There was a good amount of people around, not empty, not full. Delicious Pina Coladas, and coffee with Kahlua and milk! Before going we read many comments about the beach being too rocky, hence we had low expectations for it. We found it to be absolutely perfect! The weather was amazing the whole time with no wind or waves, so the little amount of rocks at the entrance to the water could be easily navigated. Not so good for a very young child probably (would have to go further along the beach to find a perfect spot - 5 min walk to the right) but easily navigated by an adults. After the first couple of meters of careful walking you are in a perfect sandy turquoise heaven. If there were larger waves, it would be an issue but with still water that we had it was absolutely perfect. We spent about an hour at the pool of the whole time at the resort. (The pool looked great, with a large pool bar, but the beach was better!) Getting drinks delivered in the Diamond section on the beach rather than having to walk to the bars was the best part of being a Diamond guest in my opinion. I used waters shoes when snorkelling along the shore. We were planning to take the 5$ bus to Pillar beach but found that we didn't want to see another beach because this one already had all that we needed. Snorkelling excursion right off the beach using their catamarans was well worth the 15$ per person. A private guide taking you along the beautiful reef with lots of colourful fish. We didn't explore any other excursions as we didn't have time to get bored in our 5 days there. The aquatic ballet show (visiting from Holguin) was amazing - real professionals worthy of Cirque du Soleil. We found the buffet to be more exciting than a la carte meals. Live music in the buffet, in a la carte restaurants and in the lobby bar was great and varied (a talented pianist and a classical singer, a sax jazz player, a Cuban traditional band). The rooms were fine: we had Diamond club terrace and balcony in building 4: very close to everything and quiet at night. We booked 2 days before going and paid 620 for a last minute deal - very much worth the money. Downsides: The only real downside was sandflies or no-see-ums biting. They don't seem to mind Deet that scares away the mosquitoes (we did see a couple of mosquitoes but mostly it was no-see-ums). Using oil on the beach tended to help a bit (like a tanning oil or baby oil). Wearing long sleeve loose shirts and pants in the evening also. They tended to come out at sunrise and sundown in particular (so about 5-5:30pm was the worst).
Spent nov 5-12 there. We were quite surprised with the quality of the food. Best food we have had in Cuba. Grilled fish, chicken pork or beef every night. Pizza made to order, stir fry at lunch was delicious.. Rooms were extremely clean. A small issue with hot water but once mentioned to the front desk it was immediately fixed. Staff was polite and friendly. The beach was a bit disappointing but we new that ahead of times from reviews. They are working on it. Just past the activity hut the beach was fantastic. We were in building 7 which is far from everything but we appreciated the walk after eating so much. This resort is definitely accessible for those who can't walk as far if you ask for a closer building to the pool. Shows were good. Mosquitos were a pain but I think it was the time of year. We have been to cayo coco in the spring and never had an issue. The hotel sprays and tries to keep them down. Grounds were very clean other then the odd beer can that some slob decided couldn't make it to a garbage can and there were plenty around. I guess some people feel they have a right to leave garbage on the ground. That is no fault of the hotel just ignorant people. Will definitely be back!
“second time still super ”
visited flamenco for the second time between oct 28 and nov 4. had a fantastic time. the food was even better than the last time. buffet had plenty to offer for lunch or dinner. breakfast was excellent. we were well served by victor manuel everyday for breakfast, lunch or dinner. he didn't miss a beat. the a la cartes were very good our favorite being both the asian and the mediterranean. stayed at the pool all week as they are removing some of the coral to the right of the bridge. they are almost finished. it will look good. we did spend hours walking on the beach. it is fantastic and totally deserted. we met very few people on our journeys. even found remains of an old wooden ship about one hour to the right. the walk on the left was equally magnificent. we actually walked to the memories caribe by walking in the ocean about 400 ft from the shore and the water rarely was higher than our knees. if you love walking on the beach this place is perfect. also found at least 20 conch shells. we put them back as they all had the critter inside. this was one of my favorite trips to cuba. the only complaint i have is that i paid18 cuc for a lobster and it was well over cooked. other than that we love flamenco. will definitely be back.
“Cuba Si !! ”
We picked this resort for a quick, inexpensive getaway. The resort staff are top notch. They all appreciated the little something's we brought from home that are far to expensive for them to purchase on a 20$ per month salary. The Grounds are always being worked on (incl pools) . They are also working on the RH Beach. This beach should be close to being done and when it is it will be breathtaking and likely more expensive. Our weather for the first 2 days was horrible but the Entertainment staff did a great job of keeping us all (kids incl) entertained in the Lobby Bar. Food was as expected, a little bland but totally edible. We brought spices and ketchup and left what we didn't use. Id go back here in a heartbeat. In fact we are planning to do just that in the early spring. We met some very nice people here.
“LOVE Cayo Coco, Cuba Memories Flamenco Resort ”
I stayed in Cayo Coco at Memories flamenco resort the last week of October with my friends and had an amazing time!!! I would highly recommend this resort, it has the most welcoming environment. My favorite part about the whole stay was becoming friends with the staff. Honestly, so friendly and hardworking....it was exciting going back to the room to say Hola to all my new friends!! Beach, people, pool, staff, environment, nature, entertainment and cleanliness 10/10 The Food 6/10
“Wow !! Is the best way to sum it up. ”
Been to Cuba many times (Varadero, Santa Lucia, and Manzanillo), first time to Cayo Coco but this was by far the best resort I've stayed at in Cuba. Went mid September 2014. It was a short ride from the airport to the hotel, check in was taken care of ahead of time on the bus, so no line ups, and as soon as stepping off the bus was floored by how beautiful the resort and grounds were. I had requested a unit in any of buildings 1-4 and they were happy to oblige putting us in unit 4 on the upper level. The room was spacious, extremely clean, nice bathroom, A/C worked perfect and included a safe (which I`ve always had to pay for in all my previous trips to Cuba) and the mini bar fridge stocked daily with beer, pop and water. The pools and grounds were absolutely stunning. Normally I`d use ``according to Cuban standards`` in saying that, but it went way beyond that.It was one of the nicest resorts I`ve ever been to. And constantly improving. Both of the main pools were of great size with plenty of loungers around them, with a beautiful touch with the waterfall and spouts pouring into the lower pool. Yes, they still had some of the coral on the beach area approaching into the water, but if we went down this amazing looking dock and stepped into the water it brought us past the coral into the soft sand. And, they are making efforts to remove the dead coral and rocks, so even by now that should be close to completion on an otherwise beautiful beach. The food was actually surprisingly good with plenty to chose from and some fantastic food art made every day in the buffet. I have no idea how someone can complain about the food at all. There was barely anything I could think of that wasn`t available between the buffet and the a la cartes. For us we did the Cuban buffet and the Chinese, both fantastic, ate at the beach restaurant which was surprising because most Cuban beach bars only offer sandwiches and fries, where as here there was plenty to chose from including a fabulous paella and fresh pork. No shortage of activity to see or do, there seemed to be constantly something going on around the pools and beach during the day, including a fantastic choreographed water dance show in the upper pool. The evening entertainment was second to none though. There were no hokey routines or time fillers. They were first class. In particular the Cuban night and The Michael Jackson Show, the latter of which is a `DO NOT MISS` show. We were fortunate to get to see it twice, and I recorded it to youtube which you can see here (keep in mind it was a standard camera I used) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LOU7x8HkcGs . The only excursion I did this time was the full day catamaran tour where they bring you out for snorkeling along the coral reef with plenty of colorful fish then to coral island for more swimming, a fantastic lunch on board with langosta (lobster, but a chicken option is available) and then to a private beach. Only recommendation on this is I would rather do the half day trip. You sacrifice the lunch (which can be arranged elsewhere), but the beach they bring you to isn`t worth it. Just walking to it was a pain (on the feet), definitely wear water shoes if you decide to do this but there isn`t even lounge chairs on the beach. The thing that made this the best resort for me though, was the staff. From the moment we stepped off the bus and being greeted by Jesus, the cooks, the entertainers, the bar staff, groundkeepers, everyone !! I have never been to a resort where they genuinely wanted to make sure everything was as perfect as it could be to make things enjoyable for you. Even simple things like if you`re walking towards you building, the staff will stop in their golf carts and offer to bring you there. And expecting nothing more than a smile in return. It`s the first resort I`ve been to where it`s not a case of them doing their job, but rather, if they can please you, they`re happy. I`ll definitely be returning to Memories next trip. Thought I`d found my hotel away from home in Santa Lucia, but this is for sure my new `home`away from home.
“Awsome Hotel! ”
It was a great experience staying at this hotel, the staff knew what they were doing and they were really friendly, the room was really clean and the food was awsome and the f&b staff was great, the front desk people were extremely friendly and they gave you personal service, they knew who we were and the room#, i really recomend this hotel to everyone, but specially couples who what to have a romantic trip!
“Best Family Trip in a Long Long Time”
From the airport back to the airport, the Memories Flamenco staff was around to help us and make sure our vacations were top notch. We had an amazing suite with 2 bathrooms, living room and a fabulous ocean view. The room was big, clean and well furnished. Our fridge was filled with soft drinks and beers daily. The nightly entertainment was amazing and of international caliber. The friendly staff made us feel at home. Our 7 year old son was celebrating his birthday while in Cuba. The hotel staff baked a birthday cake for him and celebrated him at one of the "à la carte" restaurant. They decorated his table. He liked going to the kids club to play with others and prepare the nightly kids mini-disco. We took a tour of Moron, visited the Delphinario (dolphins) and took a jeep tour where you drive your own jeep, following a guide. We had a blast. Some folks complain about the beach. I must admit, on the right hand side, they are working on removing the rocks. They said it would be completed by end of october 2014. On the left side, the Diamond Club was nice. With beach sandals or shoes, once past the rocks, the water is real nice. They are really working hard on improving this part. We enjoyed it very much and it did not bother us at all. Can't wait to go back to see how the beach turned out. We will definitely go back!
“5th time ”
It was my 5th time at the Memories Flamenco. This resort is perfect. The staff are so lovely and they are the reason why we keep comming back!! We will be back again, for sure. The beach is not bad at all, so fir those who hesitate, dont miss your chance to come to this resort because of that.

“Memories Flamenco Beach Resort September 2014 ”
Memories of Flamenco is a very good resort, not too big or too small. A very well maintained and managed property. Jesus, the general manager is always walking around the resort, talking to guests, taking notes and fixing any and all problems brought to his attention. The staff is very friendly and eager to please all the guests. Twelve of us returned in early October from the Memories Flamenco. I booked separate from the rest as I was coming from Saint John, and they all lived in the Toronto area. I got a free upgrade promotion to Diamond Club and I was the only person in the group with Diamond Club. Personally, I didn't think it would have been worth the upgrade. The top shelf booze was no big deal, they had plenty of good stuff on the main bar, plus they gave it to you if you asked. The 2pm late check out for Diamond Club was great, as my bus only left at 7pm. It was (depending on the day you asked for the price) $20 an hour, or $10 and hr for extra time. Different people paid different prices. The resort is very nice and extremely well maintained. The gardeners can be seen throughout the day working in the hot sun, stopping only to offer guests hibiscus flowers or a hat made of coconut leaves. My room was nice and clean, the AC worked well, over all the resort was the best I've been to so far in all my trips to Cuba. The pool area is great! The bartenders at the pool bar are amazing... Orlando, Aries and Omar. Look for Orlando catching ice cubes and his version of flair bartending. Although the beach is a bit rocky, they are in the process of grinding down to a depth of 2 feet, removing the coral/rocks and replacing the rocks with a top layer of sand. For those of you that want your daily exercise, you can walk for miles past the Diamond Club and you will find natural private beaches. Also, there is great snorkeling about 200M from the shore and you will find many different fishes. I have never experienced anything quite like the staff at this resort. Management can be seen day and night, over-seeing everything, chatting with guests, making sure everyone's needs are met. On the last day, Jesus and David came out with the staff to see us off and say goodbye. Upon returning home I had an email from Raoul to thank me for chatting with him and Alberto. One evening we talked late into the night, telling him what I thought of the resort, the food, the staff and Cuba in genera. It was Raoul?s 3rd week at the resort, and being from Spain he was still getting used the way things are done in Cuba. I am returning the end of November with my wife (as my 1st trip in September was with the ?boys?) for another 2 weeks. She saw the pictures of the food and resort and TOLD me we were going and to book it ASAP. To the Lobby Bar Staff : Yanet, Janet, Humberto, Riki, Pino and Yunior (Junior). Miss you and can?t wait till I see you at the end of November. Perhaps by then Janet will learn to speak English (inside joke) Brian Ps .. forget about the Coral on the beach, and just go there. You won?t be sorry
