  • Description: Telegrafo Hotel Cuba

This hotel is one of the oldest tourist installations in Havana and Cuba. Originally located in Amistad Street during the 1860’s, it was moved to its present location on the corner of Prado and Neptuno streets. This used to be called one of the best hotels in Latin America by the 1910’s, by the time it was fully rebuilt. At that time the Telegrafo was considered the most modern hotel of Havana city. Recently restored, after having been in ruins during some decades, the building shows a perfect combination of modern and colonial architectural elements. Its 63 comfortable rooms with magnificent views of the Havana would allow you to have an unforgettable staying, supported by a very professional staff and team which will provide you with personalized attention. The combination of modern design and the original round arches under the uncovered original brickwork , could be enjoyed once your are at the snack bar in the central court yard. The Hotel Telegrafo dates back to 1860, then located on Amistad Street. Towards 1888 it is relocated to where it now stands, the busy corner of Prado and Neptuno streets. In 1911 it was completely rebuilt and when it reopens it was regarded by the press of the time as the most modern hotel in the city and ranked among the top eleven hotels in Latin America. The present Hotel Telegrafo combines modern and colonial elements in its architecture, creating a beautiful synthesis between contemporary and traditional styles. It has 63 comfortable guestrooms with a superb view of the city. The inner courtyard with its arches showing their original brickwork is a sharp contrast with the new design features. The elegant Telegrafo Restaurant specializes in Cuban and international haute cuisine, and its decoration casts a classical atmosphere proper of a unique place ready to welcome you back.

José Martí International Airport (IATA: HAV, ICAO: MUHA), sometimes known by its former name Rancho-Boyeros Airport, is located 15 km (9 mi) southwest of Havana, Cuba, and is a hub for Cubana de Aviación, Aerogaviota, and Aero Caribbean, and former Latin American hub for Aeroflot Soviet Airlines.[2] It is Cuba's main international and domestic gateway, and serves several million passengers each year. The airport lies in the municipality of Boyeros and connects Havana with the rest of the Caribbean, North, Central and South America, Europe, and one destination in Africa. It is named in memory of patriot and poet José Martí. In the 1960s the airport was bombed by B-26 aircraft from Brigade 2506, a CIA-sponsored group of Cuban exiles attempting to liberate Cuba from Fidel Castro. Cubans are not allowed to own aircraft or use the airport for either private or commercial flight. Only government-owned aircraft are allowed to use the facilities. There are currently four passenger terminals in use at the airport, plus a freight terminal.[3] Terminal 1 is used primarily for domestic flights. Terminal 2 opened in 1988, primarily for charter flights to the United States. Ten years later on April 27, 1998, the International Terminal 3 was opened by Canada's then-Prime Minister, Jean Chrétien, and former Cuban president, Fidel Castro. International Terminal 3 offers many modern facilities and jetways that the former international Terminal 1 did not provide. Terminal 5 is operated by Aerocaribbean. Today, Copa Airlines is the foreign airline with most flights to the airport, operating 34 flights a week (roughly 5 daily flights) from Panama City, Panama, and Bogota, Colombia. The airport is operated by Empresa Cubana de Aeropuertos y Servicios Aeronáuticos (ECASA).

        Awfull Awfull

        “Never AGAIN! ”
It was a planed family vacation from overseas all paid. From outside we were convince that it was going to be even better inside. Once your enter the promises you can start to smell the wet carpet. Time to check-in and the problems start it with my family rooms the charge us more because my niece was 12 years old this is the only country a child of 12 paid, very disappointed we paid. We reached at the 3rd floor even worse the wet carpet was stronger, reached to the room after asked in reception to have a full side bed the receptionist gave us a twin bed for me and husband, walked to the bathroom and a towel with a hole baseball size, reaaaally!! Housekeeping couldn't see this. We could barely sleep the bed was awful, checked the shower for a warm bath and not hot water, I called reception sent a maintenance guy and he told us that " all the hot water was use earlier" I called my parents and the were having a hard time with the AC and on top of that their phone was not working to call reception. We went for breakfast downstair with the family to find the out a disgusting buffet, the only good thing was the gentleman making the omelette he was very kind. The prices for breakfast paid for friends that came over was ridiculous " what breakfast???!" Public relations disturbing our family breakfast to find out how was the hotel please lady stay one night and you will see. We went to the patio where there is a bar to me was the best part of the hotel until everything went wrong. We asked the bartender to let us see a game that we arrange with him day before and he agreed... He was not only rude to us but because he had two buddies from the street to come to see an Spanish game with him as per him been at work "not in his house" he couldn't give us the priority as per guesses in the hotel. We were very insulted and asked to speak to the manager and nothing was done about it. We decided to leave across the road we were attend with respect. Back to the hotel the bother us with apologies and we have two rooms to move you and family, please you ruined our stay already... We decided to moved their meaning of apologies was a ship bottle of rum that cost $6.50 with a card... Come on!!! Who you fooling???! Overrall I wouldn't never stay at that hotel not only the service was poor but the workers believe they at home, also even the hotel was close to everything is a night mare because the people in the doors of the hotel asking you for money and bothering all the tourist the hotel don't do anything about it. Me and family will never stay at that hotel... NEVER EVER!!!!

        “No 4 Star ”
Maybe for Cuba 4 Stars are fair enough. I would give 2. Reasons: Very unfriendly staff 4% on currency Change Staff tries to cheat on laundry The hotel hall is full of oil fumes every morning from the breakfast No Entertainment inside the Hotel, just a laisy boring bar And if it rains will also in your room!

        “Central for Old Havana ”
Very old and a little 'tired; but the friendliness made up for this. Lovely little notes each day from the chambermaid along with some very creative towel art! The view of the busy street below and park opposite with all the 1950's cars, was a real view of classic Havana!

        “Location Super, Staff Friendly ”
Just stayed at Telegrafo and the location is perfect, located right in front of Central Park. It has an outdoor terrace to sip drinks and eat as you watch life pass in front of you. The breakfast buffet has all sorts of different foods to choose from. One morning that had Ropa Vieja which I considered a dinner item so I asked if it was left over from the night before. I was told all food on the buffet had been cooked that morning for the breakfast. It was really good even for breakfast.

        “Perfect essence of Havana”
Having researched all of the hotels in Havana I spent 2 nights here and the rest of our stay in adjacent parque Central, however I am so glad we experienced telegragho as it was a truely authentic experience which we greatly valued. The hotel is relatively small, however centrally located and extremely friendly and accommodating and professional. We splurged on a junior suite and based on previous reviews asked for a first floor room facing the front as they have balconies. On arrival they had taken our request on board and allocated us a fantastic suite (118) with 3 balconies each with a seperate outlook to the street - fantastic.! We didn't want quiet, we wanted to experience the city - you could sit here all day and feel apart of the city. I think you could get a similar experience with similar standard rooms such as 114. The other advantage of staying with this group of hotels is that you are helping the regeneration of further buildings in the city. I also highly recommend tours from this hotel - much more authentic than those from parque Central.

“Just how you imagine a Havana hotel to be ”
The hotel was undergoing maintenance work at the time but this didnt interfere with our stay at all. We had a junior suite which was spacious and very clean. Our room was on a corner so had the best of both worlds. The buffet breakfast was lovely, with plenty of choice & daily entertainment. The food in the restaurant was very good, we enjoyed sitting outside at night watching the old cars & people going by & listening to Cuban music. Loved our stay here would definitely stay again

        Excelent Hotel
Located on one of the busiest corners in Havana (Paseo del Prado and Neptuno Street), in Havana's historic heart, the Telégrafo Hotel has shown off its attractions since its inauguration in 1885. In the late 19th century, the hotel became a singular attraction for visitors. It was among the most prestigious establishments at the time and ranked among the best 11 hotels in Latin America. It is 20 kilometers away from José Martí International Airport. Its façade shows the architectural evolution of the building, consisting of two floors that respect the original design and the top floors, which are characterized by a contemporary style.
