“Horror story ”
On arriving we where issued our gold bands as we had been twice before which entitled us to a gala dinner bottle of rum which we did not get ,,, a bottle of rum arrived as we where departing which was no use to us as you can't take it in your hand luggage and we would have preferred to drink it leisurely on our holiday .The food in general is Awful birds flies everywhere food uncovered my wife was ill for 2days first week and 3 days second week with sickness and diarrhoea. The beach fantastic that is the only good point staff ok but if you did not tip you got no service .Sat in buffet restaurant on 2occassions and where not offered a drink of any sort because we had not tipped the previous night . Not invited to Gala Dinner as there had been an oversight and we where told we had never been to the hotel before . Pools very dirty and stained and one day we could not use them because they had to do some emergency cleaning . Animation team a disaster did nothing really. The previous years the hotel was ok but gone down the nick would not advise any one to go to this hotel
“Just ok ”
Myself and my fiancé have just returned from this hotel after a two week break. I'll start with the pro's:- lots of choice of food Rooms decent enough Large pool Beachfront (pretty much) In the evenings there is a man who has a trolley stacked with premium brand drinks and he goes around the lobby bar to give you whatever you like, he also has cigars available for purchase (much cheaper than the onsite shop) Cons:- most of the staff expect a tip for doing even the slightest thing, it made us feel extremely uncomfortable and less likely to tip as a result. One evening we jumped in one of the golf carts to take us to a restaurant, after arriving at said restaurant (20 seconds later) the driver rattled his top pocket to ask for a tip! Now don't get me wrong I understand these people are poor, but this for us was a complete turn off! One of the animators, (didn't manage to catch his name) tall guy, does beach volleyball a lot, he gave my fiancé the nickname Spider-Man, was very rude to me one day. He approached us with the usual fake smile, and asked my fiancé if he was going to be playing volleyball in the afternoon,(Having hurt his back he had already decided against It) he replied that he probably wouldn't, and then the staff member said, "why do you need permission from her?" Being shocked at his rudeness I replied "I'm not his mother" which some part of his brain told him to say "no, you're worse". So folks, if you want to be spoken to like that then go play beach volleyball at PP! If you don't tip constantly then you get extremely poor service, it got to the point at breakfast where the staff didn't remove the previous guests used plates from where we were sitting so we had to eat with dirty crockery next to us! The service on the whole was pretty poor at breakfast and lunch time. One morning I asked for some chicken to be cooked on the open flame grill, when I sat down to eat it, the Middle was raw! Towards the back end of our holiday, someone thought it would be funny to steal our towels from our sun beds by the pool. After being passed from pillar to post by the hotel I went to the thomas Cook rep "Mercedes" whom in no uncertain terms, encouraged me to steal someone else's towels in order to avoid the hotel charges of 15cuc per towel (£11 ish) She was not interested in helping us at all, she just kept saying they were our responsibility, yeah sure, but am I responsible for someone else's actions? Especially when we only left the sun beds to have lunch for heavens sake! She just sat there with her hard faced demeanour. Thomas Cook need to re think who they employ as hotel reps. Save to say we did not pay any fines, we found an alternative solution to the problem, which, I might add, didn't involve stealing someone else's towels and ruining their holiday too! In the restaurants,(Caribbean Is by far the best of them all!) they let you sit there for half an hour whilst trying to choose out of 4/5 items on the menu, then when you place your order, "oh I'm sorry we don't have that" Now, some things can't be available all the time because they have to import stuff, I get that, but why, let a guest sit down, and read a menu, without telling them what isn't available? 4 times this happened! It's unbelievably annoying. Tell people as soon as they sit down, if there is something that isn't available to order!!! If we hadn't have had a positive outlook on our trip from start to finish then we would have been pretty disappointed. However, we made the best of it, it's not a bad place to go, it's good value for money, if you love deep fried everything then it's perfect for you! But I very much doubt we will be returning to PP in the future. I must give a special mention to Carlos in the beer garden, he was pretty much the only member of staff who always seemed happy, and never expected a tip, so we tipped him! Overall we did have a nice time, despite the hiccups, we made some wonderful friends who we kept in touch with, but won't be venturing back to this hotel. Varadero in the future possibly, after exploring the world a little more first of course!
“Food poisoning!!! ”
Paid a lot of money to go then a lot of money to the doctor to sort out the food poisoning I picked up there! Spent 3 days in bed with the doctor coming to give me injections! Wasn't too impressed with the birds flying round the dining area and eating the good that was laid out for guests!!Found the entertainment staff too friendly with the young girls!!!! But apart from that lovely hotel with food facility's.... Won't be going back tho!!!
“disappointing second time around.. ”
Just returned after visiting PP for the second time. I loved this place so much last year and booked on the actual day i returned home. I am actually saddened at how this place has gone down hill. ON the plus side the staff are fantastic and nothing is too much trouble, I actually fractured my foot and the doctor, nurse and hospital staff were amazing. The hotel could not have been more helpful!!. Carlos at the beach was his usual awesome self, we love you!! Ronaldo, Alexander, Gerald at the pool bar and the bar waiters were wonderful! The room was cleaned thoroughly daily and the food was cooked as ordered (a great improvement). The pool was cleaned every day, im an early riser and saw this daily, however it took them ages to do it (2pm one day and they were still at it, at least it was cleaned!! Now for the cons: Whatever happened to the fantastic musicians in the lobby area? we missed them, the entertainment in the lobby was poor and there wasn`t much to do in the evenings. The prostitutes around the resort was off putting and one of the reasons i wont be returning. Also knowing that the hotel was aware of this and arranging the girls for the old men makes it harder to accept. Its not what you expect or want in a family resort!! The weekends were horrendous. Weekend Cuban visitors were rude and obnoxious. Now i love the Cubans but it actually felt like id been dropped into butlins. Noticeably were the amount of weekend thefts.(make what you will of that statement)..The cuban weekend visitors actually sat on our loungers while we were sunbathing, threw their uneaten food on the floor and were just literally disgusting.. I am saddened by the apparent deterioration of this resort, even more saddened by writing this review as the resort was so much better last year!! Next year im off to Mexico!
“The most boring hotel in Cuba. ”
Just got back from Hotel Playa Pesquero. It was my 4th stay there. Have to say: it's getting worse. No activities, no animations. Food is very poor- no fruits or vegetables, mostly canned corn or beans. Very boring.
“One more nice place at Cuba”
That's a good hotel. The territory is not large, everything is maximum 7 minutes walk distance. The territory is green and has even pounds with small fishes, the beach is close and has much space for everyone, no need to reserve spots in advance. The food is not from the Paris restaurant, but it's tasty and there is good choice of everything you need, same with drinks, you'll find beer, rum, cocktails, but not many brands. Staff is friendly and accurate, what I like is Wi-Fi in a lobby with a good speed. Thematic restaurants cook good food and staying there one week we never felt any dissatisfaction with food. What also I liked- was short distances to everywhere, if you go with kids- it's extremely important. The sea was clean and warm and very beautiful beach with large trees making some shadow as natural sea beach umbrellas. That's a good place for family vacation.
“Great hols April 14 ”
Been here twice now. Both times the weather was amazing. The first time in Sept 08, the temperature was in 30s day and night. Beautiful hotel which I would highly recommend based on great value for money. The people were lovely. Only negative the rooms are quite dated now.
Recently stayed for two weeks and had a great holiday.....it may not be modern or new and in places you will notice that it's well worn. It is not plush but it is an enjoyable biggggg hotel which tries to offer everything you need. Please do not be put off by bad reviews, if your easy going and want to enjoy yourselves this is the place. No point in me repeating the good previous reviews as it's all been said. Have stayed in many A/I hotels and this is up there with some of the good ones.....because of what is on offer. Always something going on either at the beach or near the pool. Previous statements about no chips.....there are now chips for breakfast dinner and tea if it's your preference. It's the tomatoes that now seem to be missing. Enjoyed all the al a cartes although the Caribbean was our least favourite. Go and enjoy.
“Cuba is worth a visit ”
Just returned from a great 2 week vacation in Cuba at the Playa Pesquero all inclusive hotel. This is a great hotel to visit as it as lots amenities and has a good beech and it's safe swim. The hotel has lots of bookable restaurants plus a normal buffet and plenty of food is available through out the day. We would recommend a trip to the Dolphins and dinning with them is the best we also did the Villa Blanca trip which is an over night stay at the Villa and includes a catamaran transfer with booze included then a great night out to a local club in the evening to see some traditional dancing and you get to dance as well. Take a chance enjoy.
“splendid location for a relaxing vacation ”
well here we are folks I'm once again placing a review of this lovely hotel that my wife and I fell in love with in 2003 and have now visited 8 times just returning home today after 2 weeks rest and relaxation sadly having listened to many guests visiting for the first time and some returning for their second some are complaining that the standards are dropping which made the place so extra special and although I agree there are some reviews recently added to this site that rate the place poorly I really must disagree some staff members do not speak such good English and may appear not to care but they do care in fact I will go as far to say that if you if you bring the matter up with the guest relations staff who are dedicated to making your stay not just great but excellent they will move heaven and earth to sort out any little problem you have and apologise even when sometimes an apology is not warranted. I just do not understand some people who complain about the night life and lack of entertainment and wanting discos late into the early hours. The fact is most clients that go to this hotel go to relax they have a drink in the lobby bar maybe watch a show then retire to bed then get up the next day to sun themselves all over again if you want such night life don't go to Cuba go to Benidorm or any other clubbing venue. Now to my review, The hotel is sadly looking a little tired and that poor maintenance to some of the communal services such as toilets in the Italian and romantico restaurant area need urgent attention to repair and fitting replacement the cleanliness is also a little lacking in these toilets although others that see a greater foot count are meticulously and regularly cleaned. Food. I have listened to other guests and although my wife has a particular issue with dietary needs chips were unavailable due to some potato embargo however I was able to get some each day after a visit to guest relations and making some special arrangements, Chips finally arrived in the hotel 4 days before our departure day and were in plentiful supply, Food on the whole was served Piping hot on the server and steak fish and pasta dishes are cooked freshly for you as you wait but queuing times vary and sometimes can be quite annoying waiting so long to be served. food does chill quickly it is open air dining and I agree a microwave would be an advantage I have asked the hotel to get one whether they will is a different matter they did not do so from my last time I was there 17 months ago. standards have gone down though and I have pointed out to management that their complacency could be causing damage to the very good reputation the hotel has from its guests I have been assured the new manager has taken on board the comments of several guests including myself and will implement change to bring the standards back to what they were which makes the place so beautiful and so relaxing. rooms again are a little tired in décor and age of fittings but considering the country its politics and the amount of investment they are able to put into this vast resort I personally think they do a great job. my room was cleaned meticulously every day and my toilet and bath smelled fresh with either bleach or some kind of disinfectant on each occasion. from swans to teddy bears and hearts made up from blankets and towels placed on your bed each day sometimes with a little flower or two this simply made you feel welcome and that your chambermaid cared about you. Tipping I've read a comment or two about tipping and some guests moaning they should not have to tip because they on an all inclusive holiday, all I say on this is this subject is yes tipping is completely voluntary I don't believe you are treated any differently if you give a few tips every now and again or at each meal time or even not at all. but lets be honest here giving no tips to those who serves you is as far as I am concerned is not justified and if you felt the staff did not provide you with good service you should have said something however a peso or 2 is not that much to pay for excellent service . would I return again to this hotel Yes I Would without hesitation in fact I will say that the hotel has a loyalty scheme in place and tries very hard to have you come again they want to make you feel part of their family and need your business we have been fortunate to be offered a free week all inclusive next time we book between May and October and I say a big Thanks to the hotel for that. Weddings Playa Pesquero have been doing weddings for ages now They certainly know how to make for a great day weather permitting which it does sometimes rain but all in all from everyone who got married here in the last two weeks cant praise the hotel staff enough for making it a great day if you are looking for such a wedding I would highly recommend playa pesquero. well folks I hope that my review will help you the hotel is set to open its luxury service which has been slightly delayed to I think January from my understanding the location is just as beautiful as the beach area but unfortunately I was not able to take a tour of the new location and section so I will look to a fellow advisor to give and honest appraisal as it is my intention to rebook soon. Playa Pesquero Fabulous place to be if you want a relaxing holiday with water sports and all the other all inclusive elements such a holiday brings. its not Benidorm so don't be disappointed there is little night life
“Gorgeous 2 week holiday ”
Stayed here October 2013 with my family and had a lovely stay. It's a very big complex, but there's plenty of choice of restaurants! The food was good and there was always something to eat. This was my first time to Cuba and I definitely want to return after my stay at this hotel. The pool area is massive meaning there was always enough sunbeds to accommodate everyone staying at the hotel. The white beach is gorgeous as well, and the sea is also amazing! Spent most of my days in the sea! I loved the wildlife that was here, the hotel grounds felt very natural with the crabs and lizards that live on the grounds. Swimming with the Dolphins is a MUST! Best experience of my life and it's reasonably priced aswell. Room was always cleaned and all of the staff at this hotel were so helpful and kind, really make you feel welcomed. I would 100% return to this hotel! It was also nice in the bar area to be waited on, don't usually get that with an all inclusive holiday! As expected for October, it was very humid, it could be quite uncomfortable on some days so if I was returning I would probably consider a different time of year. Overall really good holiday!
“Playa pesquero- stunning beach. ”
I stayed in the playa pesquero for 14 nights and loved it. During my stay I got quite I'll and had to use the on site doctor, who I couldn't praise or thank enough. The doctor and nurses were brilliant and looked after me really we'll. The beach is the best I have seen so far on a holiday, yet. The food was good, the resort was massive. Rooms lovely and spacious, and really clean. Staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. Cleaners are lovely and will look after you. I'd definitely go back! P.s, definitely swim with dolphins if you can.
Let's start by stating the obvious, this place is HUGE you could walk for miles when you get lost and you will. Been here twice now and would go back again in a heartbeat. Everything you read about the staff and the food is right on. Food is excellent (not just by Cuban standards) just returned from Jamaica and the food here is better. Beach is pretty good, not the best in Cuba but certainly not the worst. Pool is amazing, possibly the biggest I've ever seen. Be warned that the pool suffers from the usual resort malaise of people "reserving" loungers in the wee hours of the morning, so if you haven't got one reserved your probably not gonna get one. The beach has lounger service (they will bring you as many loungers as you need), so it's not a problem. But the pool is a different kettle of fish. We actually left our towels on loungers at the pool (a first for me) while we grabbed some food, and they got stolen!!!!! One of the few AI hotels that actually has service restaurants, there are so many places to eat here that you will never go hungry. And for the most part the food is good. Fish n chips, Pizza on the beach, Chicken specialty, too many to mention. Lobby is built around a large fish pond, great for entertaining the kids between activities. Shows are OK, depends what week you are there. Aqua show is outstanding (vegas caliber) but it's only bi-weekly. Wonderful coffee station, takes pressure off the bar, service is excellent. This place is consistently good, they have numerous drivers in golf carts who go 24-7. They even send them out to the ALC restaurants for pickup if it's raining. The only real problem we had here was that they are building a VIP (adults only) section at this hotel while we were there, and they were going all day and all night with jackhammers. We should have complained and they would have moved us, but we had small children with us and once we got them settled we didn't want to disrupt them. Nothing but good things to say about this place. It's dated for sure, but really who spends that much time in the room anyway. Highly recommend this place for families.
“Just returned from 5th visit ”
My husband and I have just returned from our 5th visit to Playa Pesquero. We could vacation at other destinations but we choose to continue to return here because it is a beautiful resort with the best staff. Special shout outs to Amoury, Fidel and Gerald at the swim up bar along with Ania from buffet. All of the staff at this resort are excellent and friendly but these ones in specific welcome us back every time and make us feel like family and that this is our second home.
“the charm of Cuba”
Staff are friendly and hotel is well maintained. The food was very good and always a good selection to offer at the buffet. The restaurants a la carte were also very good especially the seafood by the beach. The site is very big and spread over a large area. There are transport vehicles but little and few. Often had to walk. I will definateliy go back to this hotel as it was over and above my expectations.
“Great family holiday ”
We visited July/August this year. We had great service from the second we got to the hotel. My parents renewed their vows and we were very well looked after by the wedding coordinator. Overall a great holiday, rooms were spotless and located 2 mins from pool and 5 mins from the beach. My only complaints would be the dirt/grease scum line in the pool. This really was awful and there was no attempt to clean it while we were there, Two morning they filtered the pool but no other cleaning took place. There were broken tiles in and around pool which really should be repaired. I also didn't appreciate the locals who were loud, rude and left empty cans of beer everywhere which all ended up in the pool. Letting locals in on a weekend really let the place down as they piled there plates up, took 9 or so yoghurts at a time which the then removed from the restaurants and through so many being let in on a weekend, holiday makers had to queue for breakfast. Plenty choices for food especially if travelling with children. We took our 4 year old and 20 month old baby and they loved it. I love Cuba and we did enjoy our holiday here.
“All Inclusive but you still pay!!! ”
All thought you pay for an all inclusive holiday here, the staff are out to make an extra buck for literally EVERYTHING! You get presented with flowers made from napkins, staff approach you at breakfast asking if you want champagne (it is actually Cuban fizzy wine - and not great at that), and if you get sunbeds in a 'good' spot, they expect a few pesos for looking after you. That said - the restaurants (apart from the main buffet) were amazing. The food was delicious in them. And the beach itself was paradise. Watersports were free and the snorkelling was a great experience too. One thing I wish I'd been warned about was how persistent the mosquitos were. Even though I wore long sleeves & long trousers I still got eaten alive! One final slight disappointment. I always wanted to go to a hotel with a swim up bar..... but this was always full of guys watching TV that I didn't bother once. Huge complex but lovely and the beach party they threw was amazing. If you get the chance to go - do it!!!!
“Relaxing and laidback ”
Stayed here for two weeks and although not much to do couldnt really fault the place the food was freshly cooked and rooms cleaned daily to a good standard the swim up pool bar clean and bar staff really friendly and humble i would recommend doin a catarmaran day trip as well worth money which is also free drinks if your holidays are all about being lazy then this is the place the main bar and mojito are also worth a visit if u like your cocktails for you coffee lovers theres a 24 coffee coach station which serves local coffee how u like it u can also have spirits in these should u choose to do so. in the evenings the entertainment wasnt great but overall felt safe everywhere we went and wasnt hassled to buy stuff all day. we left behind our shower gels and shampoo for the staff and they were so greatfull some thinds we take for granted in the uk cost a months wages for these people overall i woukd stay again but take plenty of books
“great time again ”
Just returned from our 2nd time here , again a fabulous holiday , from start to finish this is always a great holiday , Nancy and henry and mercedes from Thomas Cook were great, the hotel is very nice always very clean and all the staff from the gardeners to the Buffet staff (especially Kenia, Barbara-suyen and Raysa) are always very happy to help and always cheerful and pleased to have you return. Did some great trips ,especially the over night excursion to Gibara amazing a great time was had by all , made some good friends on this trip and will be meeting up next year to do it all again. This Hotel is the best value for money ever , Yes some bits need updating mainly the Bathrooms but it is always clean . We paid for a Superior room this year but next year going back to a Standard room as not much different for the extra cost . As for other peoples comments about staff expecting tips so not true , no one expects them but are genuinely grateful if you do, they really cannot do enough for you , always smiling. So please make your own minds up and come to Playa Pesquero.
Having read some bad reviews we were a little unsure of what to expect. But, I can tell you, we were not disappointed. We were greeted by Henry at the airport and taken to the hotel, where we received a welcome drink, quickly checked in and hopped on a buggy. We were in block 10, which was perfect. Close to pool and beach. Big, clean, and comfortable. All the staff were so friendly, The Buffet breKfast contains some strange things, but then they are catering for everyone!! But they have cereal, fruits, yogurts, toast, eggs, bacon, sausages, everything you could want. Our favourite snack was from the fish and chip stand by the pool. And from the restaurants our favourites were the seafood and romantica. I do advice you book all your restaurant bookings the first morning your there as they do get busy. Pool and beach are amazing, all clean, we saw the man cleaning out the pool very often. There's plenty of water about, we sometimes left a 1 peso in our fridge and the drinks man will give you more. For the whole 2 weeks, neither of us had any sickness from the food, the majority of the food is covered, and some they make freshly for you. There are birds flying about, but they are open spaces so what can you expect? I certainly never saw any on the food. If you are wanting to do a good deed from the holiday, and ever have a spare can on coke or lemonade in your fridge, give one to the security guards that stand by the fence of the beach. There was one right by our block and he was always so happy, we later found out they do 15hour shifts standing there!! We wish we had known we would have given more. This hotel isn't perfect it does have small faults, but they can be overlooked and most certainly won't ruin your holiday. Cuba is such a happy place, and we would defiantly go back one day.
“Fantastic Hotel, Fantastic Country, Fantastic all round!! ”
Firstly I would just like to say Im apalled at all the negative comments about this hotel and its staff. My husband, 9yr old daughter and husband arrived on the 21st Oct for a 2 week holiday,we were greeted at the airport by Nancy, Thomas Cook rep, and were transported to the hotel by coach which took about an hour. When we arrived we were given a drink and we were checked in very quickly and efficiently. We made our way to our room ouselves as there were quite a few people waiting for buggies. Before we left I had requested a top floor room in block 58 and that is exactly what we received. The room was very spacious, clean and had a lovely outlook. As my husband and myself were celebrating our 40th Birthdays this year I had asked for some champagne to be in the room as a surprise, it was delivered very soon after we arrived and I also recieved a phonecall from Jose Luiz to make sure it had been and to see if everything was ok. A very nice thing to do. In fact all the staff could not have been friendlier, yes we did tip but not all the time but I think if you treat people how you would like to be treated then you get that back!! As the days went on we explored more of the hotel, its a huge place and is kept in lovely order and is very clean. The pool is spotless, the water is crystal clear (despite what the review earlier said!!) The food was always in plentiful supply, there are some strange thing available at breakfast but they have to cater for all tastes and nationalities so if you dont want to eat it then dont!! Nobody makes you. There was enough choice for everybody from eggs, bacon etc to pastries, cereals, toast, cold meats, pancakes ect so if you couldn't find anything then you are very fussy!! The a la cartes are nice, our favourite being the romantico. My daughter preferred the buffet restaurant so she could pick what she wanted but this was just a personal choice and in no way a reflection on the other restaurants. There are birds flying around, the place is an open building, what do you expect!!! There is always someone shooing them away though, they did not bother you while you were eating. As for flies, the food was always covered to minimise any flies being on it and the meat etc was taken out of fridges under the counter and cooked immedately. Sending kisses to the 'egg lady' (salema I thiink) at breakfast!! The beach was amazing and we did some wonderful snorkelling, although the sea being so clear you could see the fish without a mask! Cuba is an amazing country with amazing people in it and this hotel should be given every credit for the effort it and its staff put in to making your holiday as best as they can. I would definitely love to return again very soon.
“A little piece of paradise ”
We have returned home, today, from a one week stay and have nothing but praise for this fabulous hotel. From the moment you arrive you are caught up in Cuban life and the vibrancy of their wonderful culture. The staff cannot be praised enough for their welcoming hospitality and kindness- which is faultless. There is always something going on in the grounds to occupy all ages, at any time with attention to detail in keeping the grounds manicured and clean. EVERY member of staff takes their time to say hello and nothing is too much trouble. We ventured out on one day for the catamaran and dolphin excursion which is thoroughly recommended to embrace the beauty of the area, hosted by a wonderful crew- not to mention a salsa lesson if you would like one! Thank you to everyone at Playa Pesquero for a lifetime of memories.
“Trip of a life time ”
I spent two weeks here not long after a large hurricane and you wouldn't have known it had hit this hotel at all. Super clean, rooms lovely and well kept and always a towel decoration left by the cleaning staff. All other staff were really helpful giving you local knowledge. Did lots of the activities available the all day trip with someone who had so much knowledge we longer than we paid for we did the full day on the Kat to the island beautiful and food was amazing. Only down side was we did the doplphin trip and paid for a DVD however this didn't work on our return.
“Definitely worth a visit ”
Our two sons had previously visited this location twice last year, and had such a fantastic time that they wanted my husband and I to experience this resort for ourselves. My first impression was the friendliness of the staff.(many who recognized our sons). We were treated like family. The resort property is quite spread out and beautifully manicured. We definitely got our daily walking exercise which we enjoyed with the beautiful weather. However for those not inclined to walk, there are train trollys which will gladly pick up and deliver to destination. The Lobby was tastefully decorated and always kept very clean and tidy. Our rooms were spacious (Superior Room), and very clean and room bar restocked every day with bottled water, beer and cola. I suggest that you make a la carte reservations on your arrival, because they get booked up quite quickly. There is an internet cafe, and you can purchase a one hour access card for 5CUC, you should NOT try to check in on line for your return flight, as the airline internet website is very bad and verrrrry slow, if you can get connected at all. We dined at four a la carte restaurants.(The Romantico, Caribeno, Italian and Yaryal Grill) food exceptionally good and great friendly service. Although there were a few items on the menu that were not available, substitutions were always provided, and no one went hungry. There were many other restaurants on the property with easy access. Buffet restaurants for breakfast, lunch and dinners were also available and contained endless amount of different types of foods to suit a variety of palates. as well as the very popular "Beer Garden" which operated 24hrs. for a late night snack.(You must try the shrimp skewers), Ice cream bar as well as store boutiques. There was also about 8 local craft vendors on site every day displaying a variety of wooden carvings, leather good, clothes etc We arranged a private classic car tour of Holguin, and were disappointed. The car was not one of the better maintained car and came with a driver(owner) and a translator, who did not really give us a guided tour but encouraged us to keep asking questions. He took us to the "Cross on the Hill" which we requested and it was truly a magnificent view of the town and surrounding areas.( I am comparing this experience to the fabulous experience we had with a private driver in Cayo Coco) The cost was 120 CUC but we felt we didn't get the best value for our money. The beach and swimming were beautiful.. Plenty of palapas available and bar service was excellent. We met many returning visitors to this resort, and one couple was recognized at a gala for their 39th. visit A great time was had by all and would definitely and highly recommend this resort.
“Beautiful hotel! ”
We stayed here around this time last year. I would recommend the swimming with the dolphins trip, however, I would say do the trip to Havana yourself rather than going on the arranged trip as the guide was AWFUL! when you are in Havana, make sure you do the horse and cart ride; awesome way to see the city :) the smaller restaurants in the hotel aren't that nice; the main buffet restaurant is the best. If you want something different to eat, take a cab to 'Eden' which is about 5 minutes away from the hotel - amazing food!
“First time visit to Cuba”
It was first visit for us to this type of vacation so I cant really compare with others resorts. However we really liked it. The room is good size it had 2 beds for my kids and king bed for us. It was not new and had some minor issues like you had play with cable to make one of the lamps to lit or closing balcony door was bit tricky . And some minor things like this . However we were a bit lazy to ask to solve those .The important thing AC worked and it was 5 minutes walk from everything. The pool. The pool is amazing for kids I assume it is biggest one we have ever seen. The beach. The beach is great even all beaches in Cuba are public it felt like this beach is hotel private beach.(The exit from resort to beach is so wide it feels there is no exit but actually part of resort) The food. We read a lot of complains about food in Cuba. But really the food is OK! Buffet plenty to choose from . Yes you get tired of it after some time but- ce la vie :) Try to take what local Cuba has to offer - exotic fruits and see products .Dairy products are also good quality and taste.(yoghurt and cheese)Meats are good too. To make it less boring they offer a la carte restaurants the food is almost same as in buffet but you get a service to make it different. We haven't visited all restaurants but Caribbean is good and BBQ is the not that good. Recommendation to hotel to have live music in restaurants it will make the difference. As well they don't add spices other the salt and paper so taste a bit flat. Service. Room service is great . They clean daily if you allow the to do so. Service in restaurants and buffet in the evening is also great .Find somebody who will be your friend from the stuff and they will always make you feel welcome. We still remember some names that were super good to us Benchy and Osmany. Note 'beer garden' in the morning very slow service in case you have to eat fast if you leave before buffet will open. Reception on check in we had to wait for one hour it was super annoying after the flight. As well to book the restaurants you always have a line-up. Had massage it was very good I recommend it .(I think it was with Eddie) Activities they offer different activities- the problem they not always happen so you feel disappointed if you show up and then you don't show up any more. They also have plenty of sport facilities but be aware it might be tricky to get sport equipment . If you have bring your own. for example soccer ball is real problem. Trips. We took taxi to Guardalavaca. Taxi is cool pink dodge so it was cool but not much to see or do there. We are lucky we just spent 2 hours there. As well they claim for 30 cuc you get taxi dedicated to you but it is not the case so be warned it will just drive you there and back and will not show anything around. Also we took a trip to Nature park it was really nice. We did horse riding fishing and got super service from the guides.Orlando was great guide. Show I personally didn't like the show at all.I would appreciate if they just would sing in Spanish. When they sing in English we called it the caraoki. So I recommend not to go have hopes on the evening show. Security. We felt it was more secure then Canada. We actually let kids to go alone everywhere they want on the resort (except beach of course). Overall great vacation - recommended
“4 times in Cuba...first time here...go no where else! ”
I have now been to Cuba 4 times and each time a new resort. I can easily say this is by far the best I have been too! Visited from October 28-Nov 4 and everything succeeded my expectations. People always complain about food however I had some of the best meals of my life here! We paid extra for the bistro dinner and I had a T-bone steak that could beat out the keg hands down. The buffet was a nice change too because instead of the typical buffet it's all stations cooked to order and your specifications. Pool was so beautiful and same with the beach. Snorkelling off the beach is amazing. We went on the bay excursion day trip and it was so much fun! It includes snorkelling, boat ride, lunch, safari ride where you can feed a giraffe...well worth the 78 pesos. Just remember experiences are what you make of them...if you want something to complain about you can always find something too however it is not necessary too! The mojoito bar will take your worries away especially if Dayma makes them, she is fantastic!
“Denise shepherd ”

“Excellent stay ”
Second visit which we enjoyed as much as the first one. We had booked a Suite and had wonderful rooms overlooking the beach. Couldn't have had a better location. William in the Seafront Restaurant was wonderful excellent service and food. Lobster dinner on the beach. We also enjoyed the Romantica. The coffee bar is really nice for a mid morning coffee and cake. Food in main buffet fine always something to eat although could be lukewarm at times. Had my hair done cut and coloured by a lovely lady who painted my nails for free. Excellent value and really didn't need much spending money
“Excellent Resort ”
We stayed here last April, I am still in love with it!!! PP is a wonderful resort to stay in. It is very large with beautiful grounds and lots of restaurants, shops and entertainment. I loved how the resort was laid out, got lots of walking in each day. There are several ala cartes to choose from along with the buffets, pizzaria and beer garden. By far the lobby is the best feature. Lots of space to meet up with friends, a bar and a coffee bar to keep you lubricated!!! We travelled with two other couples and spent most days on the beach, there are two a larger one and the smaller which we used. Lots of chairs early and late in the day, but busy in the middle. Our room was tired but clean and comfortable. The maid was so friendly and helpful. She really cared about her job. All the staff we had encounters with were the same, friendly, courteous and just wanting to make your stay the best ever. And they did! I would recommend this resort to anyone wanting a laid back vacation where the beach is beautiful, the drinks tasty and the food spectacular! Best food I have ever had in Cuba. You will not be disappointed by choosing PP.
“I found my second home :) ”
It was my second trip to Cuba and all I can say is that I absolutely loved it. If you booked this hotel, you won't be disappointed. We travelled on 7th October - 22nd October.Weather was great, cloudy only for 2 days and a bit of rain at night. Don't bother to check weather before you go - it never accurate and it's sunny most of the time. There is so much to do. We visited Holugin city, Guardalavaca market with the most beautiful beach I ever seen!!! Hotel have variety of food, restaurants, drinks, coffees, ...well it have everything you need. Cuban are the nicest people on the planet. Big thank you to our friends - Fernando from Romantica restaurant, Ingrid (Entertainment), Reiner (pool towels), Junior (catamaran), Luis (security) and ALL PLAYA PESQUERO staff ( I forgot names...sorry) who made this holiday even more special for us - gardeners, cleaning staff and reception too. My tip is to book swimming with dolphins in shallow water with Tina ( You can find her on the beach where catamaran station is). It's much better deal than Thomas Cook have. It less people and you can interact with dolphin on your own for longer instead in a big group). It was the best day for us and much better than delphinium in Cayo Guillermo. Beach is beautiful with turquoise water, white sand with free water sports included. You are going to love it! Don't forget to tip as those people live on $25 salary a month. Keep 25 CUC to leave Cuba as you have to pay tax. We emailed hotel to get accommodation where we thought would be the best for us.
We stayed at the PP earlier this year for 2 weeks and it was great. We have just booked for next year for another 2 weeks, we cannot wait Cuba here we come!!!! xx Everything about the PP is good, it is good value for money and the staff are all hard workers and the hotel is great. See you in May 2015
“Fantastic Hotel and staff!! We are coming back 2015 ”
We stayed at the hotel between the 13th and 27th October 2014. We arrived after a 2 hour flight delay and as you receive your wristband and room documents on the bus checkin was quick and smooth. We had a room in block 59 room 11 on the upper floor and all i can say is wow. This was at the most a 10 minute walk to any part of the resort. Dont forget the buggies that you can call. We arrived at night due to the delay so the first night was unpacking and dinner. The resort map given is really needed the first few days and we were grateful for it. Dinner the first night was in the buffet and was lovely, the staff could not do enough for us here. We used this for breakfast every morning and there is more to eat than most resorts with fresh eggs cooked in a variety of ways. There was also yoghurts, cereals, danish pastries all lovely. My favourite was the fresh milkshakes made. Coffee was always plentiful and cups refilled even before empty. The hotel arranged a birthday meal for me on the Tuesday night where we were met by Bia from the entertainment team. she was amazing and got the band to play happy birthday for me. The meal was at the seafood restaurant where i had my first taste of the lobster it was an excellent meal. They also organised a birthday cake for me. The hotel and facilities are everything and more food in all of the restaurants and any places to eat was amazing. We never had a bad meal and staff are always great. Yes we tipped but not all the time and the service was the same. The ice cream parlour and beer garden are a lovely touch, as is the cuban day where they serve up roasted pork etc. Yes whilst we were there there was a chip shortage but crispy chicken from the mojito bar was lovely just with salad. Mojito here made by Madeline are amazing. You can eat 24 hours per day so having no chips should not be a problem. We loved the lobby for coffee as they do so many of them and the premium drinks trolley is a fantastic idea and I had a baileys off there every night. Nothing is too much trouble for anyone and id advise to book your speciality restaurants on your first day you get 4 per week so 8 in a 2 week holiday. We did a few trips that were well worth the money. The hotel is so good that we are changing our 2015 holiday from Varadero to Playa Pesquero as we now know that this is going to be our holiday place for the next few years. Thank you PP for a fantastic holiday and welcome.
“Fantastic alwat ”
We ha e stayed here 20 plus times and we have had yet another fantastic holiday People really need to do their research into cuba before they go there as many times we have heard people complaining about no chips no lettuce there's always something good to eat if you can't find anything in the restaurant's then you are not hungry. We love this hotel and the people that work there already booked for next year
i went on 23 sept and after reading some reviews was a bit worried. but i spent the best 2 weeks ive ever had on holiday and ive been to some lovely places the staff were very friendly and always there to help and as for the no chips there were plenty the food was great.i came home and have already started looking for next year at this place.i would recomend this hotel to every one i know and to those i dont. thank you playa pesquero for helping me to relax and have a lovely time mrs baker from room 2163
“cuban people are the best ”
this was our 20 plus times to this hotel and to cuba 30 plus times. well what can we say we really love this hotel nothing is to much trouble for the staff. we have always been really well looked after. cannot believe people were complaining about no chips!!!!! why go to cuba if all you want to eat is chips if you cannot find something to eat at the buffet then you are not hungry. beautiful weather beautiful people and fantastic hotel. yes there has been many changes over time but if people knew about real cuba then they would understand and appreciate why sometimes they cannot get everthing. already booked this hotel for next year and cannot wait for our return. I cannot thank all the staff by name as the list would be far to long a special thanks to our closest friends they now who they are
“Best holiday ever!! ”
We were booked to stay at the hotel 29th September to 13th October, having read some of the reviews on here I was a little concerned but I needn't have been. From start to finish the holiday was everything we had hoped for and more. Its a lovely hotel in a beautiful setting with its own stunning beach. Check in was very efficient. The food was excellent even in the buffet restaurant, plenty of choice and lots of it cooked for you to your preference. The staff are a delight, nothing is too much trouble, our rooms were well decorated and cleaned with a smile every day. I cannot recommend it highly enough, we will certainly be returning as soon as possible. Speaking to numerous guests whilst there most were returning guests I think that speaks for itself this hotel is definitely worth a visit.
“An excellent trip”
We traveled to Playa Pesquero in January 2014, and I can see why so many people are return visitors. Check in was quick and easy, and our room in block 29 was large and nicely decorated. It was a bit of a walk to get to the beach and the restaurants, but this didn't bother us at all. The pool is large but not very deep, and when we visited we were always able to find a lounger to sit on. The beach was gorgeous - crystal clear water, soft white sand, and loungers delivered to you by attendants. The food was not spectacular but we didn't have any issues finding something to eat at any meal. We enjoyed the fish and chips by the pool, the mojitos at the mojito bar, the bananas foster at the dinner buffet, and the pasta from Yonlier at the Yareyal buffet for lunch. Book the a la carte restaurants first thing when you arrive if you want to make sure you can get a reservation. We didn't tip for everything (some other guests did) and didn't notice any difference in service when we did tip. Overall, as long as you don't go with the expectation of a 5-star resort you should not be disappointed. We plan to return next year if the price is reasonable.
“No place like PP ”
Just back from our 5th visit. It was as good as ever. Only downside was the constant moan"theres no chips". If you are so dependent on chips for 2 weeks then stay at home. Food in all the restaurants is to our mind very good, even the buffet which gets some negative reviews. If you want food cooked there it does not take that long. Our favourite a la cartes were the Gondola and Romantica. We would like to say thank you to Yordelis and to Carlos and the rest of his excellent staff there. This is a large resort but we feel it is suitable for anyone to go to. Hotel staff are really helpful so if there is a problem just ask them. We travelled with Thomas Cook and Nancy the rep and her team were great and very informative. The coffee station was a good visit after breakfast and it is open 24 hours a day. No queues at the bars to get served either. The pool was cleaned every day and the beach was great as usual. Lovely for swimming and snorkelling. Please remember this is Cuba and they do suffer from shortages. Regarding tips, you do not have to tip but they do need them to bolster their wages as things are expensive for them there. We are now working on our 6th visit and cannot wait as this has become our second home.
“Fantastic holiday. ”
We honestly do not know how anyone can give this hotel negative feedback. DO NOT LISTEN!! The food was very good, numerous restaurants available, best one seafood! Would advise that you take advantage of the free al a carte restaurants. Additionally we are at the restaurant that offered T-bone steaks. Although this is a little extra it is well worth it. The buffet restaurant was good with lots of choices including fish and meat. The chefs cook the meats and fish in front of you. Breakfast was very good choice of omelettes, proper bacon, pancakes and fresh fruits. The hotel itself is very clean and tidy, the staff are brilliant and can not do any more than they currently do. They are very hard working and will go above and beyond. The rooms are a little outdated, having said this it is in line with the Cuban lifestyle. The rooms are cleaned daily and fridges stocked frequently. We will definitely be returning!! Thank you for an amazing holiday that truly feels like paradise!!
“loverly time sep 2014 xxxxxx ”

“Best holiday ever ”
This is the most amazing hotel. Food ... What can I say if you can't find something you like here you should stay at home. The staff... From gardeners to managers no one can do enough for you. Special mention for Lorena -waitress in breakfast buffet restaurant in the mornings and Fidel at the swim up bar. Best blocks to be in 64 and 59. You don't need to leave the hotel but if you do should take opportunity to swim with the dolphins, visit Guadalavaca (?) . Have a massage total bliss.
Located on beautiful Playa Pesquero beach, Blau Costa Verde offers great all-inclusive value with such extras as continental-breakfast room service and around-the-clock food and beverage service, including a 24-hour lobby bar.
When do we go back?
The beach is on the smaller size. It is a bit rocky at the shoreline, but absolutely beautiful 10 feet in. The pool is hugh. It appears to be very clean also. The grounds crew are constantly working around keeping everything clean and fresh looking.
Playa Pesquero Hotel
Just booked PLAYA PESQUERO Hotel for the fifth consecutive year, something I would never have dreamed I would ever do with ANY hotel. Having visited many wonderful destinations all over the world I find this is the only one I just cannot stop returning to. I have always had a 'rule' that there are far too many places I haven't seen to ever go back to anywhere twice, no matter how good it was, but I cannot stay away from Cuba! The people are so warm and welcoming. The hotel offers the option of lively or quiet, whatever you prefer. The entertainment is good, and the hotel and beach are well maintained, the rooms are spacious and very comfortable. The grounds are well maintained. There is always something to do if thats what you want with lots of activities, or if you just want to chill out there is plenty of space to find a quiet spot. The food is good and I cannot fault the service. I always have a wonderful time. Looking forward to seeing you all again at the Playa Pesquero.
Playa Pesquero was great
The hotel property is huge, clean and very safe. You can easily miss the presence of numerous security guards because they tend to blend into the scenery in a very friendly and comfortable way. It has all the amenities you could possibly desire for a vacation. There are many restaurants, bars, pools, and the beach although a bit rocky is clear beautiful water. We travelled 2 adults and three kids 11, 9 and 7 years old. The kids had plenty to do, beach sports, kids club, teen club, table tennis, volley bally, archery, air hockey, snorkeling, and good shows at nights. Communication in English will not be a problem as most of the staff are fairly fluent. You will never be hungry, thirsty or bored. Try Yareyal by the pool for lunch. The manager Manuel and the pasta chef Milano are awesome. Simply put, there is a lot of food. Most of the resturants will not have cooked vegetables so if you are a vegetarian (as I am) please plan ahead (I did not). Buy your cigars at the hotel, it is about 25% cheaper than the airport. They have a small crafts market on the property. If you see something you like, buy it because the vendors rotate to this hotel about 7 to 9 days so you may end up missing them. Definitely highly recommended. Enjoy.
Too Much Fun
This was our sixth time at Playa Pesquero. The reason for for that is simple, we love it there. We have made many friends both on-and-off the resort, so we spend a fair amount of time looking up, and spending time catching up since our last visit. The people are always very friendly, warm, and helpfull. We have made friends with one of the horse & buggy drivers, which takes us down the road to visit some local friends. He becomes our translator - otherwise, communicatoin would be tough after the initial Hola!
beautiful swimming beach
The hotel is especially popular for marriage ceremonys, and welcoming parents with small children with open arms. There are organised baby-sitting/playing to give the parents a rest!!!!, and private baby sitting can be obtaines too I believe.
I thought that the beach was great. It is kind of split up into two portions by some rocks/corals. The portion to the right where is the longer beach area where you can walk to other resorts, and a smaller beach area on the left side of it. We tend to spend our time on the smaller part of the beach, since it was closer to our room and felt less crowed. The kid had a blast at the beach and the water was very calm all week, even thought some days were quite windy. Yes, some portions are a bit rocky, mostly on the smaller portion of the beach and it is not the smoothest sand I’ve seen, but it is still a great beach with the water having beautiful different shades of blue/turquoise. As I’ve read in a lot of reviews, it’s probably not like the Varadero beaches, I’ve even overheard that comment a few time on the beach from other guests. So, my suggestion on this is: If you want the beach to be like the ones in Varadero, then you probably should go there. There are a lot of free activities available and you can have some decent snorkeling not very far off the beach. There is no problem getting loungers, as some guys will even bring it out for you anywhere you want. As for a spot under the palapas, like I’ve mention before, unless you go later in the afternoon, you will have to wake up pretty early to get one. Pool:This is one huge pool and it’s beautiful. It’s the warmest pool I’ve been in at an all-inclusive. The main bar is the pool bar, which was really busy, but there are smaller bars around the pool. It was great with the kid, since a lot of the sections are very shallow. It’s not the cleanest pool I’ve seen, but I did see some staff trying to clean it a few times during the week. There no problem to get a lounger, but if you want one under a palapas, then I guess you will have to wake up early, as the towel game (which I’ve never understood) is played intensively on the beach and at the pool. We would usually go to the beach in the morning and at the pool in the afternoon, after the kid nap, around 3h30 – 4h, it was not a problem to get a good spot at that time.
Yes, it’s a big resort and you will have to walk quite a bit during your stay, it’s not a problem for us, but if it’s not your thing, then it might not be the best place for you. A stroller is definitely a must with a young kid. A Bubba Keg, or something similar, is also a must if you want to have drinks. Because at the beach/pool bars, they will only give you small plastic cup, that holds maybe half a beer. Before leaving, I had read a lot of reviews about the different bathroom on the resorts being disgusting. I’ve visited, at one point or another, pretty much every bathroom on the resorts and my only problem with them was that most of them don’t even have a window. So, it’s like a sauna in there and obviously it will not smell like roses, but they were all kept clean and it was a non-issue. There are some Internet workstations in the Lobby, you have to buy card at the Lobby desk with an access code on it. It sells by the hour and it cost 8CUC/hour. The Internet connection is quite slow, but it’s good enough to check and send e-mails. There are a few shops on-site, where you can buy cigars, alcohol and some souvenirs and stuff like solar cream, chips and pops. There are also some vendors around the pool everyday selling stuff. They rotate each day, so if you see something you like, you might not see it again if you are only staying for one week. As for the alcohol, the best rum were : Havana Club 15 years : 150CUC, Havana Club 7 years 11.90CUC, Havana Club bullet proof 29.50CUC and Ron Santiago 11 years 40 CUC. The prices were pretty much the same at the airport and the bullet proof was even more expensive as it was selling for 35CUC. So, unless you are worried about your luggage weight allowance, I don’t see any benefits of buying it at the airport.
The only thing that made us not wanting to return is that it is a very big site we were told that there was caro that would take us where we wanted to go because my husban as an handicap well you would call for one & the would arrive half an hour later. We also went to get a whell chair 10 cuc a day & they are rusted * they squick. This place is not recommended for people with a disability
