      “Never going back ”
We were in this hotel for the 1st time, for 2 weeks, October 19 - November the 2d. The quality of the standard room was terrible, had to upgrade to Plus section for 233$. The staff was better after we purchased the upgrade. If you have the standard room there is no flexibility. The food quality in the buffet is better than other hotels and the barmen from VIP bar does great coctails, tips are necessary of course. THE BEACH IS THE WORST I EVER SEEN IN CUBA!!!!! sand bugs, mosquitos. Between the hotel and the beach there is water, a perfect ambience for mosquitos and insects. In the bar next to the lobby were you can enjoy the evening shows there are plenty of termites. We got mosquito, termites and sand bugs bites all over the body. Stress!!!!! There is only one entrance in the water where there is no underwater rocks, close to the right. Avoid the shadow under the beach trees. Full of bugs!!! Never going back!!!

      “Awful Place ”
Arrived 21st October 14 with my daughter and son in law. Receptionist was rude with awful attitude asking my son in law who he would be sleeping with! (Those were her exact words).. food was terrible with limited options especially at dinner. Entertainment staff were never around. No pool activities only the odd game of water polo. Will never visit this hotel again but will stick to Hotel Rio Lunar n Mares which is absolutely fabulous on all aspects. Staff at this hotel look thoroughly miserable. This place ok for the more elderly visitor

      “Nice hotel with no soul.”
We just came back from the Blau Costa Verde. We were in the "Plus" section, block 36. We checked in late on November 15th for a week. The room is nice and well appointed. Next morning we went to the buffet for our breakfast. Total disaster, staff is running around every where, we were seating inside. It seemed they didn't have any specific sections to attend. Total lack of organisation. The food is almost always cold or not quit warm, never hot. The bacon is always undercook, almost raw. The next morning it seemed to be better. We sat outside on the "non-smoking" section. The sevice was better, but same thing apply for the coldnest of the food. We had lunch at the "beach restaurant" and the burger was just disgusting. The meat was a mix of beef and cereal, awfull, not fit for human consumption. The club sandwich is good, however the bacon is again undercook, so we fed the cat with it! During lunch hour, the italian restaurant is open for pizza. This was a good choice. We had 4 meals at the "a la carte" restaurants. The Italian, French, Gourmet and Spanish. The side dish at each and every one of them is the same: canned vegetables with powdered mashed potatoes made with water. All were tasteless. At night, the buffet is ok. The best night is the Wednesday, their Gala night. I believe on this day all the "a la carte" are closed. By the way. they should do something about the ligthing in those restaurants. It's way to bright. The hotel grounds are nice and quit big. Their beach is the worst one in Playa Pesquero, full of rocks. The "Plus" pool is large and underused. The animation team was there only on our last day. The bars are ok, the best one is the VIP one, however there is no outdoor area. On the beach we were accosted three times by female and male prostitutes, all of them had the Blau Costa Verde bracelet. All around the property you could see them hanging around with older men. The girls were all under 18, some as young as 13 or 14 years old. This was pretty disturbing. And again the girls/boys were all wearing the bracelet! The watershow on Sunday is very good. On other nights it is very average. Pros: nice hotel, nice rooms, nice amenities in the room. Cons: food (both at the buffet and "a la carte"), beach, prostitutes. We will never go back at this resort.

      “My Final Say ”
We have visited this resort faithfully since its opening and sometimes more than once a year. We have also travelled extensively in Cuba for decades. Our last visit was for a month in April 2014. Have never been in November before so decided to give it a go. The staff at this hotel can not be faulted. They go out of their way to please even after long hours and pressure from guests. The Lobby area is open and breezy and the gardens are lush and green. The cleaning staff do an excellent job. I have never had better food consistently at any other resort. I ate all my meals at the buffet and have no complaints. Love the homemade soups at lunch and dinner, breads and ice cream. I am not a foodie and am satisfied with plain wholesome food. They do have a-la-cartes for those with more trained palettes. I would like to mention the hair salon at the Blau. Barbara is an amazing stylist. I had another perfect cut/style this trip I opted to stay in the older section as the newer section is too far to walk if you have difficulties. This is where my disappointment comes into it. My room was on the 3rd floor in Block 5 and the elevator was out for 2 days so had to use the 1 of 2 that was working in Block 3. There is an on-going problem with these elevators. My room was updated with new décor and furniture. The bed had an updated mattress and was super comfortable. The major disappointment was the AC. My room would not cool down before early evening. It was brutal. That left me to stay out and no rest or shower until late. I did try another room but it was worse (rock hard bed, missing light bulbs, non-working safe and bad AC as well). I moved back to the other and suffered for the rest of the week. We had the same problem in April. We loved the room we were in but the AC was non existent but the room next door to us was freezing (occupied). We had to pay to upgrade to the Plus side for 3 weeks just to have good AC. This should not be an option that you pay extra for. AC in a hot country is a necessity. Management & PR sincerely tried to rectify this but it was not possible. Again, I put no blame on staff. The Blau Resort Chain and Gaviota need to absorb the expense of upgrading the AC and elevators in the older section. The other change that has been made is in the food service. There is no longer food available at the snackbar during the day. It is now at the beach restaurant until early evening. The day I arrived it was during torrential rain so there was no walking to the beach. It is also a long walk for anyone that has a handicap. This space can only accommodate 50 persons at any one time. What happens when there is a full house of 1500 in high season. I was told that this was permanent and not just for low season. If you have no mobility issues and upgrade to the Blau Plus you can not fault this resort. I will not be returning in 2015 unless the AC fairy arrives. This is very sad for me because this place has always felt like our home in Cuba. It was very difficult for me to write this review.

      “Fair to Middling Holiday ”
Stayed for a week at this holiday, over all I and my mother enjoyed the holiday it was a welcome break and the weather with the exception of one day was lovely and warm. Firstly the good points about the hotel:- All the staff were friendly, polite and helpful when spoken to. Management you could not fault as they listened to our complaints and dealt with them above and beyond what others might do. The drinks and cocktail selection was plentiful and the coffee, surprisingly didn't taste that bad. The pizza in the Italian Restaurant was thin, crispy and tasty. The breakfast in the main restaurant was good with plenty of choice and fresh omelets and eggs were cooked fresh. The beach was lovely and most review's suggested having swim shoe's on, but a short walk along the beach and you can walk directly into the sea with not a rock in sight. The free equipment on the beach the hotel provide is also good. My mother and I went out with a member of staff on the catamaran which not only was it fun, but our guide was very informative about what can be found in the sea. The entertainment in the evening was exceptionally good and most welcome as the hotel was in the middle of no-where and a little too quiet (a little music in the 24 hour bar would have been nice). Now, the not so good points:- Our original room was dirty, one bed had a mattress that had broken springs and the safety rail in the bath was loose. This is where management excelled because they did clean the room thoroughly and repair all that was broken. They also offered us a room in the newer block and a complimentary massage. The pool was filthy around the edges, although saying this, staff were cleaning this whilst we were still there. The buffet in the Main Restaurant was very much the same each day and yes like another reviewer said, desserts were mostly the same, just a different shape with different colour icing. However, the ice-cream was lovely with a different choice each evening. The bad points: The young Cuban girls/prostitutes that walk around the hotel with older German/Canadian men kissing, cuddling and groping each other in the front of other hotel guests. There weren't many crabs about whilst we were there, but those that were, were quite fascinating to watch and the sound from the frogs was different. As a whole if you want a holiday where all you want to do all day is either lay by the pool or on the beach then this hotel for the price is fine

“Nice hotel with a few issues ”
Stayed Oct 6th for 2 weeks with friends, check in was quick and easy with no problems. We had 2 rooms in block 6 and although this was the old part, the rooms were clean and the style was what we expected from the pictures we had seen, the air con did not really cool the room that well I thought. The staff are very friendly and the service was generally very good, the food was bete rhan i expected from what i had been told the food would be, always chicken, pork, fish and beef, veggies and chips ect. The desert were a bit of let down really with most cakes tasting the same and being dry but you can always manage something to find and eat and im quick a fussy eater. nice touch was the a la carte dinner for the english guests. the pool was nice and had a walk in section, pool bar and plenty of loungers at both the beach and pool so no need to get up early. the night time shows are not bad, opera singers, water ballet and a lot of dancing bu this could be better as well as it gets very boring after a few dancing shows, the shows end too early and then you are left with the 24 hour bar that does not play mucic and the disco that starts closer to midnight so no body really went whils we were there. So a bit of background music would be good in the 24 hour bar. the lobby bar shut at 10.30pm so left the 24hr bar only. We upgraded to plus section for the last part of the holiday which gave you a VIP bar that shut at 10.30pm and the newer pool area, you also got 2 more a la cart and a lobster dinner with this. The newer rooms were more modern and the air con worked alot better at it was newer, we upgraded because of a few issues we had with the hotel, the upgrade was 7 CUC per person a night so about £4.50 a night each. The bad part and the reason we moved to the newer section The hotel lets Candian older men and a few from uk come to the hotel and then check in with Cuban prostitutes and most of these were young girls, they would parade these all over the hotel and often you would witness them having sex at night around the hotel and we even witnessed one masturbating a guy off through his shorts in the 24 hr bar, they would both look and find it funny. There were lots of complaints about this to both the hotel and Thomas Cook Advisor Daniel who said they could do nothing about this as they were booked in as guests. It woould seem the hotel allows this to happen. Also the hotel gets flooded from friday to sunday with locals who take over and the whole place changes from chilled to tense as they are not very nice towards the guests in the hotel, they push you out the way, take all the food, even though they waste it and leave little for the holiday guests staying, they get very drunk and stay in the pool all day whilst drinking without leaving for the toilet. It seems the hotel just lets everyone do what they want once they book in despite the inpact on other guests. Its a shame the hotel is not better managed and stops letting in prostitutes. It could be so much better if they paid attention to what the guest tell them. Their loss as we wont be going back again. Generally the hotel is not that bad for Cuba but it does come with a few issues that will put me off going back to this hotel in the future and its a shame that the hotel lets this happen as its spoiling what could be a great place

      “Nice resort ”
The arrival and transfer from Holguin airport were very good thanks to Daniel the Thomas Cook rep who is a fountain of knowledge. I would still prefer to fly Virgin if they were to take up this destination. The IFE was on a loop and not very good. A choice of 3 or 4 movies and you had to buy headphones and drinks, another rip off! We decided to upgrade on arrival, well worth it for the extra a la carte meals and the lobster dinner. The buffet can be very samey and very busy with the influx of Cuban families at the weekends from Friday mid morning till Sunday evening (and older men with very young Cuban girls, although they are discreet). The Cubans need to learn to queue and not waste so much food! I must admit I wasn't that taken with the food but there again they can only cook what they are given. They ran out of orange juice twice and they don't do chips, and tomatoes are not plentiful. Very little lettuce, usually shredded cabbage and cucumber on offer. I can live on salad and chips if I can't find anything I like but not at this resort. You do have to queue for eggs and omelettes at breakfast but not for long. Our room (19101) was on the ground floor and the patio doors wouldn't lock, even though they sent someone over twice. There is a free safe in the wardrobe. Take extra coat hangers as they don't provide enough. The coffee machine was also replaced twice as it didn't work. The bed/pillows were ok, not the best I have had but not the worst either. Our housekeeper Nivia did a brilliant job and was very friendly, as were all the other staff. Half of the VIP pool was closed for the full two weeks we were there, but the half that was open was lovely. The beach is very good with plenty of loungers. Take swim shoes as there are rocky patches to get over before you get to to the nice sand. The water is lovely and warm and I highly recommend the hobie cats, all included in the price of the package and great fun along with the pedaloes. We did do the Paradise Island trip but the snorkelling was no better than what we experienced off the beach at the resort. The meal was ok but only one drink included with the lunch, but a free bar on the catamaran all day. There is also very little shade where you sit on the beach after lunch. The guide for the day was Habier and was entertaining and willing to answer any questions about Cuba. The nightly entertainment was quite good. We saw and operatic couple, a magic show, a fashion show and a water show in the pool. I used 50 plus deet mosquito spray and still got bitten. There are land crabs around the gardens and hermit crabs on the beach. We saw a bullfrog at the side of the pool while waiting for the water show to start, and the crickets are quite big too, and along with the bull frogs are quite noisy at night. Be warned the spiders are BIG! I only saw one cockroach and that was in the bar, and the lizzards come in all sizes. Be sure to change your pool/beach towels at the hut by the beach or you will be taking the sand fleas into your room. Take plentyof sun cream too, we got thru 2 large bottles each. I left extra toiletries for our housekeeper and tipped her and other staff regularly. They are very appreciative and lovely friendly people. All in all it is a lovely resort and we did have a lovely holiday. Would we go again, I doubt it. Its a great 3 star resort and if they improved the food and a few other things it would be a good 4 star.

      “Best food in Cuba!!! ”
This resort is the best in I have been to in Cuba. I have been to the Riu Playa Turquesa (then it was Sirenis), Playa Cayo Santa Maria, and the Blau Marina Veradero. Exchange was on average .83 CUC for 1.00 CAD. Food and Drinks The food was excellent and the people serving it were fantastic. We had 4 al cartes plus a Lobster dinner and a gala night dinner. Really the best I have had. The drinks were sometimes different from bar to bar but still tasted great. Buffet had good variety. Was repetitive but it is Cuba and what they do with what they have is amazing. The servers were all very kind and made my 9 year old daughter feel special when they had her drink ready when they seen her coming. Pools Were clean in the morning. A little dirty late afternoon but that happens to our pools at home as well. Odd tile missing but it would be worse if they drained the pool and repaired everytime a tile broke. Again no different then how my City takes care of its pools. All pools were refreshing and had great bars and food nearby. Water temperature was perfect. Beach I can't really comment on this. I hate bug bites and I have had to many bad experiences that I stay away. I did take my daughter snorkelling and the beach isn't as nice as Cayo Santa Maria or Veradero but still beautiful. Gardens They are beautiful and very well cared for. The gardeners all work very hard. They do spray for bugs but I appreciate that as it is for our benefit. Room We had a plus room in block 17. Was very clean. Maid was fantastic. The bass from disco was a bit much. Kept me up. Room was the smallest I have had but air conditioning was good and the View of the pool was nice. Bathroom was large and modern. Cons Only two. First is minor. The water is filtered and is drinkable. It just tastes and smells mouldy . You only get on large bottle of water per day so bring enough to buy an extra bottle or two per day extra if that is not enough. Around 3 pesos. There is lot of prostitution here. Not really an issue as mostly discreet however if bringing your family you should be aware. They should really not be allowed in a family resort. The 'johns' should be considerate enough to go an adult only resort. Sunwing should not be selling this as a family resort until management fixes this issue. This will not stop me from returning as my daughter was unaware of what was occurring. I just feel you should be aware of this if it will bug you or you don't want it around your family.

“RETURN VISIT TO THE BLAU ”
My husband and myself first went to the Blau jan. 2014. We had a great time but the weather wasn't so great so we decided to come back and give it another try. Well it was just as good as the first time. I emailed the hotel about two weeks before we left to request block 16 or 17 in the plus section and was given block 17 which was perfect. Its away from the main hotel and very quiet . The room was clean, lots of hot water and good air conditioning. Soaps and shampoos in the bathroom and always clean towels everyday. The food was just okay at the beginning of the week but by the middle it was great. Roast turkey, chicken. pork. Lots of local fish and loads of shrimps etc. The bread is delicious. so no worry about finding something to eat. There is the Italian restaurant which serves pizzas etc during lunch and its good. Now the beach was beautiful. The weather was perfect and the water was calm. There is rocks but if you bring water shoes its not a problem. there is snorkling and diving. Its just a great place. Bring your snorkling gear and you will have a great time. We had 2 hours of rain from nov 8th to the 15th and 30c plus everyday, NOW the only problem I had with the front desk was I asked for a late check out which three people told me it was 15 pesos and it was BUT as a returning guest its suppose to be free and also a lobster dinner for returning guests which neither was offered to me . I knew about the dinner but not the late check out so I was kind of really disappointed that they didn't bother to tell me and they knew we were returning guests. makes me not really want to go back there for that reason. we shall see. Its not a hotel for college crowd but for people wanting to relax and just enjoy.

We spent two weeks there, the location is perfect, a bit away from the big resorts and if you walk ten minutes you will find a few empty beach. There is plenty of tropical fishes to discover and it's close to a few Attractions, including swimming with dolphins. The most disappointing part was the poor quality of the food, on the other hand the staff was truly stunning, caring, helpful....

      “Great Vacation ”
First time at this resort and had a wonderful time...the food was very good...drinks were plentiful and the staff were very friendly. I was there with my sisters...they prefer the beach and were disappointed with the beach, not as nice as the beach in Varadero...I prefer the pool and was thrilled with the pool. We did upgrade to the Plus section. The resort was only at about 35% capacity which was wonderful for us...no problem getting a spot that had shade when needed. They replaced the pool chairs when we were there to new ones. Ate at the Spanish, Gourmet, Italian and Buffet and we were not disappointed with any of our meals. The pizza at the Italian restaurant was so tasty. Did eat once at the beach bar and that wasn't great...it was just okay. The Animation team was amazing...the Black Light show was so much fun and the water show was very entertaining. The only downfall was that there wasn't much in the way of shopping...at least not that we found...this was our first trip to Holguin.

“Blau exceeded our expectations !! ”
I work in hotels so my boyfriend and I had an open mind about our vacation. After narrowing down our search through Air Canada Vacations, I then turned to trip advisor. After reading the reviews it's safe to say that some people are too picky and set their expectations too high. We paid for the Plus side through ACV which worked out to an additional $40/person. Totally worth it. It includes a private pool with swim-up bar, VIP lounge in the evenings and 4 a la carte dinners. The Plus side is more spread out so there is more walking required, but it was nice not being in the center of the main building surrounded by the main pool and 24-hour bar. The food definitely exceeded our expectations. The buffet had plenty of options for everyone. Breakfast had smoothies and omelettes/eggs made to order. Lunch and dinner had meat and fish options made to order. I was told don't go to Cuba for the food. But even the a la carte dinners were great. We weren't hungry at all. The 24-hour food options aren't the greatest (sandwich, burger, hot dog, french fries) so try to eat up during buffet hours. The bar staff are all great. Give them a $1 peso every so often and they're serve you first and remember you. The beach was gorgeous. We didn't have the best weather while there, but when the sun was shining the beach/water was beautiful. We took out a free paddle boat, but there were also catamarans, wind surfing, and snorkelling options which are complimentary. The tiki umbrellas get taken fast, so go to the beach in the morning first thing, or wait until lunch time if you want a bit of coverage for shade. I can't compare the rooms on the plus side to the hotel side, but they were comfortable and were really only used to sleep and shower by us. We noticed tiny little ants everywhere, so we asked to have the room sprayed with insecticide. One night we noticed the ceiling in the bathroom was dripping water, so we put a towel down and let FD know the next day. It was fixed but continued to drip throughout the week at night only, so we just kept a towel down and it was refreshed in the morning. Probably something to do with the A/C all the time, but it didn't bother us. We didn't go there to complain. Holguin Airport: Be careful when exchanging money there. The lady at the currency exchange desk by the airline check-in counted my bills and let one slip onto her lap. I had to tell her 5 times that she had dropped one (she understood english because she greeted me perfectly and nicely). After she did pick up the $20 bill she was total hostile towards me. I'm assuming this happens frequently so have a very close eye when they count your money! And at departure there's a chance to upgrade to the airport lounge for $25, not worth it really (maybe in the summer heat). All in all though, great vacation. It was my first all inclusive vacation and won't be my last. If and when we choose to go back to Holguin, we will go back to Blau Costa Verde!

“Good Buy, Family hotel, peace and quiet”
Visited this hotel with my family in October, not a busy season. Weather was great, no rain, all sun. Had a fair amount of people, Which we loved bc it wasn't crowded. This hotel was very clean. There is a older and newer section, newer section will cost you abit more but worth it as it comes with perks, like a newer room, lobster dinner and use of the private pool. Beach was great clean and beautiful white sand. Food was ok not the best and not alot of variety, but we had alot of food. Bar staff was great, made food drinks. Went to the market, FYI its a small market. We took a horse and boggie tour which was great, we reccomend it, worth the value! $25. Entertainment was great, it doesnt seem like they have there own entertainment staff, bc they had different entertainers come every night, which was great. Over all the hotel was great, worth the value. I would reccomend it.

What a wonderful vacation we had. Eight women and never felt unsafe while there. Front desk staff were very friendly and quite honestly in our week we never encountered any unpleasant staff. I had requested block 16 or 17 for our group and received a very quick reply stating they would do there best and they did. The food was good, the rooms amazing. There are some rocks getting in the ocean but if you go to the left a bit there are none. We will return to this resort again as we found the whole experience above our expectations. I have read the negative reviews and I guess it's hard to please all the people all the time. Go with an open mind and positive attitude and you will not be disappointed

They really do everything possible to keep guests happy and comfortable. Immediate service when needed. Best: Stunning crystal clear ocean and lovely beach. Really appreciated having non -smoking reception area and restaurants. FINALLY. Great nightly entertainment. Food ranged from ho- hum to very very good and everything in between. Always something that was satisfactory. You wont lose weight, I promise. My room in Block 6 was very comfortable, no smoking and quiet. I loved it. My only frustration was with the poor instructions for connecting to the internet. Keyboard very unusual and difficult to learn on the hotel computers. All in all a great holiday and I look forward to returning.

Recently returned from holiday at Blau costa Verde resort and must say what a fantastic time I had. Read a lot of negative reports before I went so was slightly dubious. From a very speedy check in (after a two hour flight delay) I was shown to my room 5211not an upgrade but very nice and handy for all facilities. Staff at dining room and bars extreeeemely friendly (a peso helps) and animation friendly but if you said NO they respected it even though it was not full. Overall if you want a relaxing holiday with a fab beach and pool but enough going on to be interesting recommend this hotel

Myself and my husband have just returned after spending two weeks at this lovely resort. The service was excellent and the staff couldn't do enough for you. It was our first time to cuba, and we will go back again but want to travel next time and see a lot more. Cuban people where just humble lovely people. We left the local people we be friend ed some t.shirt and general western clothing toiletry and the people where not offended. For a cuba family to go out and eat on a restaurant would be two months wages. Food and the local beer is really cheap. The rum is special and very cheap. Buy from a government shop even cheaper. I would certainly say a big thank you to our beach entertainment guide and friend Leo. He really did set up some cheap and off the beaten track trips. I would advise you to chat to those guys who run the beach facilities as you will get a really good deal. I can not tell you how amazing and idelic the beach and the sea was. Bliss. No one really hassled us and I felt completely safe in the areas we visited. Thank you

      “September 2014 visit ”
My partner and I arrived back from Cuba 2 weeks ago. We spent 2 weeks @ the Blau Costa Verde beach resort to celebrate my partner's 50th Birthday. Cuba was never 1 of my choices for holidays but was for my partner so as it was his 50th(?). Glad I did, 1st time in Cuba for both of us and we would return but maybe trying a different area and hotel. The Blau Costa Verde was nice and clean, staff really nice, some special 1's like Leo from the entertainment crew, huge selection of food always on offer. The hotel, although big, didn't feel huge. The week days were very peaceful and relaxing, but with still lots of things going on. Weekends were a little different. The 2 weekends we were there, there were a lot of Cubans also at the hotel for the weekend. that's when you realize how big the hotel actually is, but we still managed to find that peaceful spot. There was 1 major down fall for us, there were quite a few very mature men with very young looking girls, they looked very much like escorts. I did ask about this at the Customer service desk as some made my partner and I a little uncomfortable. I was told that in Cuba there are a lot of young women with mature men as their "partners". True, but these "partners" as they were called, were not there for the length of time that the mature man was. We noticed 1 girl was with 2 different "partners" during the time we were there. Noticeable and very uncomfortable at times. This would be the only thing that would stop us from staying at this hotel again. Although, all in all we had a great holiday and my partner had a brilliant 50th..

      “Love this beach!”
We are two couples who just returned from a week at the Blau and it was a great holiday! We really enjoyed snorkeling off the beach last year when we stayed next door at the Playa Costa Verde but did not like the entertainment there (can't stand these fashion shows every second night as well as the chamber music??). We decided to try the Blau as we were told the entertainment was much better there and we were not disappointed. The shows were very good. Our only complaint is that they should have some dancing music after dinner until show time like they have at most resorts. It would be nice to dance under the stars as we have very little chance to do that at home! We did not upgrade our rooms but they were fine, the maid service was excellent and the location was ideal as we like to be close to everything and the VIP buildings were far from the beach and buffet. One concern though was how dark the hallway was - we could hardly read our room no. in the evening - it could be a safety issue - most of the lights were turned off (to save money??). The lobby and public bathrooms do need renovations - they are in bad disrepair - broken door locks, missing toilet seats. The food at the buffet and the a la carte restaurants was tasty and there was lots of variety. On the weekend though - the line-ups at the buffet were long because of the local Cuban families visiting. It was also much noisier at the shows. It must be very crowded in the winter. We would not stay there at the busy season. All in all it was a great stay and good value for our money!

Don't get fooled by the all inclusive unless you have the new package (I can't remember what it's called). If you don't haven the new expanded package you are limited to the old pool and unless you are 3ft tall it`s not much more than a kiddy pool with no pool bar. For the price they charge ì prefer the Brisas in Guardalavaqua. At least there is some local life around and you are not stuck with a 20 minutes cab ride to go into the local village

Good place for family trip. On the minus side: don't fly CubanAir / those planes are like a bus with wings.

“The best food in Cuba ”
I wanted this to begin with the fact this hotel offered us the best food ever in Cuba. We have been Cuba lovers for over ten years and always disregarded the fact the food was so so but things have changed and this hotel offered us the best ever. We booked and upgraded our package to incude our room being in the newer section (one year old) of the property. There are several two story blocks ours was 19. This block was not the most central but the extra walk not bad either. When looking out our second floor room from the back balcony you could actually see the ocean. It was far away but you could see and hear it. A bonus. There are two pools and the one closest to us was the pool exclusively for the "Plus" package we were on. The other is closer to the lobby and buffet areas and not all that far away from our block. The package also included a few alacarte dinners including a lobster dinner and as mentioned these were amazing. All served fine dining style and often with sparkling wine ..........we were spoiled. The buffet was large and plentiful. There are other options like a beach restaruant and a pizza restaruant beside the main bar area. The pizza was the best had in Cuba. I know I sound like I am repeating myself it was a surprise about the food. I did want to mention a few people who made our vacation special...........Rebeca the hostess who was able to change our reservation time from a later on to a much earlier one. she made it seem like it wasnt a problem. The server Idania who ensured our sparkling wine was always refilled. Adam a bartender who created our beer and tomato juice drinks and remembered the next day when he was placed at another bar and we ran into him there. Miguel the bartender at the pool bar who made the best cappacinos and pina coladas. Not to be last and not least Betsey who helped us ensure a later checkout (even though there was a charge) as our bus to pick us up at 6:30 pm and check out at noon. We extended out stay till 4 in the room, quite handy. I must not forget the animaticion shows every night. We were at a few that were a must not miss...........the water show and the black light show were very entertaining. I hope I did not forget anyone as this place totally impressed us. The only negative was the beach, unfortunately there were rocks not a smooth sand surface as I had hoped. We did not use the beach except to walk however it was suggested we go down a further there were less rocks.

Stayed here as a couple for a week at the beginning of November 2014. Hotel was wonderful - superb service, clean, well laid out and beautifully kept. We walked through the resort on the first morning to the beach and were totally blown away - it is just beautiful. In the hotel, pools, bars, beach and all amenities were excellent and very clean and the cocktails great. Food was super with lots of choice and a different thematic restaurant every night. Some of the food was interesting as you have to remember you are in Cuba but there was always something to choose. All the sports facilities were good and you can sail, windsurf etc on site too. There is also a scuba dive centre which you pay for but it is very reasonable and worth a go. The entertainment is there if you want it or you can ignore it if you prefer. In the evening there is classical music, pianist or jazz in the lobby bar before dinner then later there is an act on the open air stage or inside stage if the weather isn't appropriate. No karaoke or drunken rubbish - it was all really good. Would love to visit again and would thorougly recommed the resort. Rooms were kept really clean and lovely with towells made into swan shapes etc. All the staff in this resort are to be commended for their excellent service and warm hospitality.

October 19-26 The hotel is very clean, with about 350 employees and 1400 guest capacity but it spans a huge area and several blocks, that it does not seem crowded. Excellent water pressure in the shower and toilet. Rooms air conditioned and provided cool relief during hot times of day. The beach is about a 2 minute walk and is a huge bay with water you can literally float on. The staff was very well trained and courteous and often spoke 3 languages (English, Spanish, and sometimes French). They worked hard to provide the best vacation I have had in years and made me feel like royalty. The buffet spanned 15 or so tables, and featured cooks to prepare food to your liking. Some tables would also appeal to a vegetarian as there was a wide selection of food and beverages available. The only downside is that real orange juice was sometimes not available for supper, but the staff prepared a glass for me a few times. There is an italian restarant on the premises as well and all the food was delicious and I miss it already. I cannot say enough good things about this place; I will certainly go back and experience one of the best hotels I have ever been to.

Thomas Cook helped us choose - ps its a big planet. We decided on Cuba and was encouraged to choose this resort. From the moment we arrived we experienced excellent service, our room was lovely, lovely view, staff couldn't do enough for us and they made us feel very welcome and at ease. Weather was perfect as was all the tours that were made available to us. Very impressed with the tour guides, very knowledgeable and multi lingual (puts us to shame). Beach very clean and beautiful. We made it our own. We had the choice of going to A Le Carte restaurants but we could not fault the main restaurant for food, cleanliness, friendly staff who again could not do enough for us. The whole resort was very impressive, so much so we have booked up for another 3 weeks next year. Very much looking forward to it. Can you say hello to our Rep Daniel, and Judith- beach staff.

We travelled on the 14th October and stayed for 2 weeks we had a delay from Gatwick but we expected that after reading some reviews we were a little worried.we arrived at the resort in darkness so we could not see much we had a room in block 16 which we felt was the best block our room overlooked the pool and we could see the sails on the beach our fridge was stocked daily everything in the room worked we went down for dinner and to be honest we found the food a bit samey but quite acceptable my husband had freshly made omelettes every day on Fridays when the Cubans arrived the restaurant did get rather full so we had our a le carte meals then which we enjoyed the lobster was lovely we went to the Cuban restaurant which the food was lovely the only thing was we had visitors 4 rather large crabs walking around did put me off a little the waitress did her best the weather was really quite hot a little too hot at times although we did land in a thunder storm the rain soon stopped and was very humid we chose to go to Havana we travelled down on a 16 hour bus journey(thurs) as we were going further in land the rain did come down we had plenty of stops and we had lunch in Trinidad we went to Havana the next day and took in Tropicana show in the evening we then flew back Saturday morning to the resort the flight took 1 hour and 30 minutes it was nice to get back in to the pool the beach is quite stony until you get into the sea and then its fine we never came across any difficult staff and most of the guests were very friendly we chose the upgrade before we left England and do not regret it we had a very quiet and relaxing holiday the pool on the plus side was very quiet hardly anybody in it we would recommend it for a relaxing chill out holiday

      “Amazing choice Amazing value”
Myself and my wife flew with Thomas Cook on the 30th September 2014, upon arrival and through the expected visa checks etc we got on an air conditioned coach and had a 40 - 50 minute transfer to hotel no other drop offs straight there "Bonus"! When we arrived and checked in we were put in block 3 the original part of the hotel, not for us so decided to take a look at the upgraded (VIP) rooms, bingo £130 for the 2 weeks and it's the best thing we did. The room was great, fridge filled every day and that was just the start.... In true fashion I proceeded to put our towels onto a lounger around the VIP pool at around 07.00 on the 1st morning, returning at around 08.00 to glorious sunshine and above 25 degrees that early to enjoy the sun, only to find that throughout the day no more that 20 people appeared around the VIP pool & VIP swim up bar. I thought this was just due to changeover but "nope" this continued throughout our very exclusive and very peaceful stay "bonus again"!!! During the day spending time in the pool which was cooler than the sea and very refreshing for a cool down & The beach which only 50 yards away but was a little too over crowded with parasols for my liking but the sand was lovely and soft and allowed easy access to the sea without too many rocks. The facilities offered as part of the hotel included sailing, hobbie cat's, kayak and peddleo's at no extra cost "WOW". Snorkeling is a must I did it every day between 12 & 2 while it was too hot to sunbathe and saw some amazing fish around the many coral reefs. I recommend the hobbie cat which has to be piloted by a member of the hotel team (a 5 peso tip gets you a great ride) and takes the guide and 4 others people onboard. We went a good 2 miles out and saw flying fish "another WOW". The peddleo's were fun but don't jump off to snorkel or you may struggle to get back on!!!! Miguel was our amazing poolside barman and not only gave excellent service but also saw off any non VIP guests who happened to stray to use the VIP facilities! Which was great as you felt you actually were getting value for money and being treated better! At around 16.15 everyday we proceeded to the bar and Miguel would refresh us with a few pre evening drinks most days we joined a group of like minded guests before the pool bar closed at 17.00, when we would return to our room to freshen up before going to the main VIP bar which was air conditioned and open from 18.00 for some pre evening meal cocktails including top shelf drinks again with amazing service and luxury seating (this was a luxury as the outside temperature didn't drop much below 25 degrees in the night so at the normal bar with no breeze you would just sit and sweat "nice". Included in the upgrade was al la carte meals every night if you chose, we chose to eat in the main buffet restaurant and had no complaints about the service or standards, the people we met tried all 4 of the other menu's offered and enjoyed them all. Also included as part of the upgrade was a lobster meal "it would be rude not to" and it was gorgeous. We did 3 trips, the 1st was on the only day we had rain and we chose the open top bus ride to guadalavaca, we gathered up 2 more couples we had met and jumped on the 11.15 bus for 5 peso each return, the rain had eased off and we went up top which was fun, we spent 2 hours around a small outdoor market and onto the beach and then bought a snack which was 2 peso for a whole pizza (so cheap). As we returned to get the bus it started to drizzle but eased within minutes so we decided to go up top again, half way back to hotel we could see the rain moving in and this wasn't drizzle. In true style we all looked at each other and decided it would be fun to see it out and we got drenched but laughed the whole way through!!! the people downstairs thought we were nutters "how true". the 2nd trip we chose "inside Cuba" not going to bore you but other than seeing the cigar factory this was a bit of a waste as you could have paid a man with his horse cart less and seen more of Cuba! the last trip was swimming with dolphins, this was amazing in a sea water environment where they are breading and we were able to spend nearly an hour in the water with them doing tricks and petting them. This also included a sea lion show (very funny) and a dolphin show (amazing) Upon sadly leaving the hotel we had decided to upgrade to the VIP lounge in the airport, this is a must, we went from the coach to sat in the air conditioned VIP lounge in around 10 minutes and enjoyed all inclusive drinks and food while we waited 3 hours for our slightly delayed departure. I have talked a lot about upgrade and VIP but I must say I budgeted £1000 per person for this holiday and only paid £800 per person so used the difference to make a difference and only spent £160 total of that to do the 2 upgrades!! so still had money to spend on the trips etc. I could give you a list of things that weren't right but that would be pointless as they were little things that didn't really bother us that much as we were having such a fantastic time. Hints & Tips- get change in coins daily for a few well timed tips and you won't go wrong!. Empty into a bag anything your not going to take home and give to your favourite member of staff you may think they don't need it but go to their village and people need anything from soap and toilet tissue to toothpaste and clothes! Take the horse and cart "Juan" is the man for a great trip and will take you to his village and see his families home and more! Take a snorkel and maybe beach shoes if doing lots of swimming and there are reef areas. Do trips on the weekend when you do get a bit of an influx of locals who are allowed in from Friday to Sunday midday (but are no issue and really nice people) Have fun!!!!!

Flat screen tv and updated rooms which was very nice. Also a bottle of rum. Food at this recent in the buffet and a la cartes was excellent. Service was great and people very friendly. We have been to this area multiple times but never at this hotel. Highly recommend it. Access into the ocean very easy. Dive shop on site which my husband enjoyed. More dives the cheaper the price.

      “Will be going back! ”
I just retuned from a one week stay at the Blau Costa Verde Reeezort! I travelled alone but met the most wonderful people. The resort is large enough to provide everything you need but still small enough not to be overwhelming. My room was in the main complex block 3 on the 3rd floor overlooking the stage, the pool and in the background I could the ocean (room 3309). Yes the Hotel is 15 years old (they celebrated the 15th anniversary the week I was there) but the rooms have been updated and are quite comfortable and clean. The comforter and curtains were new and not at all tacky looking, there were a few cracked tiles in the bathroom, but who cares about that? The water pressure was excellent but the tempurature did fluctuate quite a bit while showering, so if you have younger children this is something you should be aware of. The food at the buffet was among the best I have had in Cuba, I tried the Cuban and Italian a la cartes and they were both very good. The cappucinos in the Laguna Azul bar which is also the 24 hour bar where simply amazing and it did not take Mindy long to know my habits, and by the second day when she saw me arriving early in the morning she would start to prepare the first of my 3 coffees. The beach is wonderful, excellent snorkeling and nice sandy areas combined to make it perfect for everyone, after reading the reviews I did pack beach shoes but they stayed in my suitcase the entire time, there is a small rocky area that you need to cross to get in the water but it's not coral, it's simply small to medium sized rocks that the tide washed up. The beach chairs were the hard white plastic ones that do tend to get to be a little hard on your back but a lovely couple from Missassauga gave me one of their extra air mattresses - Shout out to J&S! Thank you!!! Plus if you take the mattress to the dive center, they will blow it up for you. Another nice perk was they would store the mattresses for us at the towel center on the beach so you did not need to lug it back and forth to your room. At the end of my stay I gave the air mattress to the nice fellow that works there and he was so grateful with 3 small chlidren he said it would be put to very good use! I did not notice many geckos at this resort but there certainly were an awful lot of crabs scurrying around - which made for many shrill cries when they snuck out from under doors or lobby furniture and startled me! Much to the amusement of the staff!! Because it was low season, several of the a la carte restaurants would be closed on a given night, as well the lobby bar opened late and closed early but I would hope during high season this would not be the case. I am certainly going back next year, I met the best of friends from Montreal, Missassauga and England and we all agreed same time same place next year. I would imagine however that during peak season beach realestate would be at a premium! It is a lovely deep beach area, but I can see it getting very full with the increased number of guests. Also Jennis at the beach bar is a hardworking a very patient man - Love the honking horn he has to drum up business... worked everytime! This was my first trip alone and I was concerned that a single lady might have some issues but aside from some of the night security guards professing their love for me :) this really wasn't an issue. Regardless of where you travel, you just need to keep your wits about you and not take any undue risks. You may be on vacation but you need to take the same precautions you would at home. Thanks to D&L for "adopting" me right from the plane and making me feel like part of your family. I did buy a wifi card but had difficulty connecting my tablet so I used the internet station that was provided, however trying to check emails was impossible because I needed to validate myself and this was done by them sending a link to another email address which I could not access because I had to validate myself to access this second account as well! I was able to log onto facebook and send messages home that all was good, and gave my card away with 20 minutes still remaining. A true gem of a resort and I can't wait until next year! Hoping England W&H and my dear T can join us again!

      “Great Resort ”
This was my 2nd visit to the Blau Costa Verde resort, after thoroughly enjoying our first visit in 2013 we decided to return for another 2 weeks this September, bringing with us the entire family making us a party of 8. The hotel had changed it's structure a bit since our first visit as there were no 'VIP' services when we first visited and the plus rooms had only just been opened. However, as we booked as such a large group we were automatically upgraded into the plus rooms (by Thomas Cook) with VIP bands for no extra cost which was good, as most other guests had to pay to upgrade when checking in. I didn't think the standard of the plus room was much different to the standard room we stayed in last year. We had a cubicle shower rather than a bath tub and a flat screen TV but the rest of room was pretty much identical. There was a tea and coffee maker which didn't work and the room still looked a little worn out with one of the light fittings practically hanging off the wall and the door and ceiling panels held together by tape and nails! However, as we only used the room to sleep and shower so this didn't really bother us. The food itself was generally very good with lots of choice so everyone in our group (including 2 very fussy eaters and a vegetarian) were all able to find something to eat, although it did come a bit repetitive towards the end. Although as VIP guests we got free access to all of the a la carte restaurants (Cuban, Italian, Spanish and French) which were nice for something different. The only complaint we had was that there was not enough staff working in the main buffet, particularly on the weekend when the number of guests increased significantly with the local Cuban families visiting. You often had to queue for 10 minutes to get something cooked at the meat counter and trying to get ice cream was a joke. One member of our party queued for almost 10 minutes to get ice cream to then have a whole family cut in front and clear out what little was left! Also we often had to wait to almost the end of our meal to be served drinks and the table became stacked with dirty plates as there was simply not enough staff to cope! However, these were the only issues we had. We loved the beach and the VIP pool (although the smaller half of the pool with the swim up bar was broken for the entire 2 weeks) as there was always plenty of sunbeds and it was always clean and tidy with great weather. The staff were all very friendly and work very hard for very little money so we always tried to tip them or get them drinks from the bars. We loved the air conditioned VIP bar in the evening which does the best cocktails (I'd recommend the pina Colada) and we become friendly with the bar-man Adam who was lovely. We only watched a couple of the shows in the evening as they were the same as last year but the ones we did watch were very good as usual. We also went to the disco a couple of times which was a bit odd, playing a weird mix of Spanish/English music but not bad for laugh. As for the trips, we did the dolphins which was amazing and the island paradise which was good but was too much travelling for some people as it takes 2 hours on the coach to get to the dock and another 2 hours on the boat before you even get to the island. However, the food there was really tasty (a small buffet) and we paid the extra 9 peso's to do the "safari" (as it isn't recommended by Thomas Cook for insurance reasons) where we saw mainly wild horses, antelope, zebras and a giraffe which we stopped off to feed. The snrokelling part I thought was a bit of a let down as the fish were exactly the same as the ones you could see at the beach on the resort and I was also stun by a jellyfish so I personally didn't really enjoy it but we did all get a free bottle of rum at the end so that was good. We also went on the bus to the Guardalavaca market where you can pick up some cute little souvenir's and another day we went into Holguin City to look around but found it too hot and crowded to properly enjoy, although it is good if you want to see the 'real' Cuba. Overall everyone in our group (aged from 18 to 65) enjoyed their stay at Blau and although there were a couple of things we had to complain about I would still recommend this hotel. We paid around £840 per person for 2 weeks in September and thought it was great value for money.

“jawsome time at the blau ”
first thing tour operator.had to use airtours/thomas cook due to tui no longer flying to cuba which wasn't a bad thing as airttours were cheaper as were the add ons.the food was the best inflight meals we have ever had and will use airtours again.on arrival at the blau we paid the extra to upgrade to the plus which was far cheaper than the cost via tour operator,7cuc per person per night or £125.our room was in block 17 next to the pool and only a short walk to all the bars and restaurants.the beach restaurant was closed due to low season but the mar y sol was open for lunch which was a big bonus as it is next to the beach and nice and quiet.the food is cooked to order with a limited menu but very nice.the only down side was too many tables.the buffet restaurant next to reception was the main place for most meals where a good selection was served every day, always hot and always different unless you choose to eat the same every day.booked the spanish restaurant which was superb but only available to plus guests and was in the vip bar.the vip bar was a nice place to go due to its aircon and was never too busy.the shows at night were very good the best being aqua ballet.day time activities were entertaining to watch and the staff were not too pushy to get you to join in.most daywere spent on the beach which is the best of the hotels in the bay.even though it was low season people were still reserving a spot on the beach and disappearing for hours not really on.lots of new faces at the dive centre and the prices and diving are superb.got the chance to go dive with the bull sharks with the dive masters and was well worth the money.would we go back .you bet.stayed 23 june to 8 july a good time thats not too busy.all the staff work very hard and cant do enough for you and it was good to see all the familiar faces.

“Fantastic time had at this hotel ”
I went to this hotel with my fiance and had a wonderful stay. Travellers should remember that cuba is a poor country and food and items are very basic therefore if you go expecting the ritz in cuba you will be disappointed. It is common in cuba that hotels and restaurants can run out of things such as potatoes however the hotel was very good at improvising and served a lovely alternative to fries. We paid 130 for the two of us to upgrade to vip and this was well worth it as we got a room with a few extras such as a coffee maker and fridge was stocked daily. The vip pool was very nice and the vip bar served amazing cocktails. However be warned the vip bar Cocktails are strong so be careful! We were disappointed that the swim up bar in vip area was shut due to being broken as it looked lovely. If you are upgrading then do it through the hotel as you will be ripped off by Thomas Cook! They want 300 per person! We did get an infestation of ants in the room however the hotel staff attended to this and got rid of them. Beach was very nice. Food was excellent and there was plenty of choice. Pizza place at lunch time was our favourite however the hotel should definately have more than one waitress serving as it is a bit of a wait getting served. Tried all of the a la cartes and enjoyed them all apart from the spannish. Entertainment team were brilliant and very friendly. Evening entertainment was also fab and we really enjoyed the opera and aquatic show. Only negative was We witnessed a nasty assault by one guest on another and the hotel did nothing and continued to serve the man alcohol. Violence of any kind should not be tolerated. In all would highly recommend.

It is located on Pesquero Nuevo beach, on the north coast of Holguín province. Surrounded by tropical forests and a short walk away from a pretty white sandy beach. This hotel boasts attractive accommodation and a abundance of excellent facilities.

      Not what I expected
My husband and I stayed at the Blau Costa Verde from March 24-31, 2010. I was dissapointed with the buffet selection. The resstaurants were great and always found something good to eat. Our rooms were neat and comfy. I took a foam mattress pad with me because the beds are pretty hard. If you are not a VIP guest, ask to be put in building 5 block, it is very quiet and away from the stage. Building 4 gets all the noise from the pool and lobby bars. As far as the cleanliness around the pools, I never saw anyone, through the day, cleaning up cups etc but this is not saying that the 1 person who is responsible for cleaning around the pool does not work hard. My theory is, they need more staff during the day to work on the cup clean up. We never stayed at the beach. It states the beach is great for scuba diving etc, and I do agree. If you are looking for a beautiful rockless, shell-less beach, do not go to this resort. The bugs get pretty bad at night as well.

      Blau Costa Verde
The Blau Costa Verde in Holguin is a great place to snorkell. There is a coral reef right there along the shore with all kinds of fish species. This beats having to travel out to sea to snorkell! The hotel rooms are spotlessly clean, large and comfortable. The air conditioning is centrally controlled and they often turn it down in the afternoon and through the night. This is a pain but a phone call to the front desk will quickly correct it. The hotel staff are all very polite and accommodating. They all encourage tipping. The coffee with milk at the Snack Bar is delicious. The steaks at the Cuban Restaurant are cooked to your liking and grilled to perfection. The water activity crew at the beach are all excellent. Make sure you go for a Hobbie Cat ride with "Ray"! He is very handsome, charming and extremely good at what he does! This place is a great Family vacation resort!

      See you there soon!
My husband and I with our 10 year old daughter visited Holguin for one week in February . This was our first visit to Cuba, we were expecting great beaches, we got them, friendly people, we got that, great food we were not expecting...and we got really good food. Our daughter is exceptionally picky, she was able to find more than enough to eat every day. The animators were fantastic too - the evening shows were fun and entertaining. Let me say something about the beach - WOW. We were able to snorkel right off the resort - we saw all kinds of fish, it was incredible. I even saw flying fish one morning right at the shoreline. I saw a man-o-war jelly, and flying fish. We never waited long for a Hobie Cat ride or kayak. The staff at this resort were not only friendly - but they were pleasant at all times. The bar was well stocked - we didn't experience any issues with weak drinks - they were plentiful and the service was as quick as possible. We also felt very safe at this resort. We went on the catamaran to the dolphinarium - recommended - but know that one can visit the dolphins without signing up for a full day excursion - but you would lose out on the snorkeling on the open reef - Bring your own equipment if you have it. I can't say enough about the excellent service at this resort - really. The room we had was comfortable - we had three double beds - which was perfect for us. And the fridge was stocked every day with several cans of pop, and beer, and a litre or two of water. No complaints from me. We met people from Canada that we are staying in contact with, and all plan to return to this beautiful destination, I hope you do too!

      The best trip
I just returned from the best resort Blau Costa Verde. Flew Air Transat. Arrived April 28 and left at midnight on May 5/10. Flew first class definitely worth the extra 55.00. I am 24 years old and traveled with my mother this year. We had an amazing time. The hotel is beautiful with lots to do for any ages. The food was amazing. Some of it even tasted like home. They don't have ketchup very often so I would suggest bringing your own. The staff was so helpful and very friendly. Some things that they really need are sunscreen, deodorant, soap, shampoo and conditioner. The things we take for granted. So if you can take some of these essentials to give to the staff. Trust me they really appreciate it. The beach is awesome but make sure you take your water shoes because there is some corral. You can feed the fish right out of your hand. Barbara does hair and nails. She is awesome so make sure to book an appointment with her. And if you do go by the fitness center please tell Barbara, Deni and the nurse Joa that Laura from Nova Scotia sends big hugs and lots of love. I had a blast with them. I wish they had of played more Cuban music at the restaurants but that is my only complaint. The Cuban restaurant was my absolute favorite. The Italian was amazing too. If you go to the Cuban restaurant get a banana split for dessert. I swear it was better than dairy queen. We stayed in room 3307 had an amazing view of the mountains and water. Maid was great. Hot water everyday. Needless to say I hope to be returning to this resort very soon. I would recommend it to anyone. Please remember to keep an open mind when traveling anywhere in Cuba they do not have the same things that we have.

      Blau Costa Verde
I should mention first that this resort was built with thoughts of someone physically challenged in mind with elevators and ramps as required. Someone in a wheelchair or walker can access anywhere on the resort I went from the entrance, to any of the restaurants and all the way to the beach. In a word, the beach is fantastic. Yes, you should wear water socks to go close to or in the water, but that is probably a necessary price for the coral providing the great snorkeling so close to the shore.Personally, I found "towel wars" non-existent here. Plenty of room and loungers for everyone. One morning at 9:30, I counted 80 loungers still stacked and by 11:00 AM, still some left.We didn't use the pool, but it looked clean and well tended with plenty of space around for relaxing. The grounds were very well trimmed and manicured, and in very good shape, maybe excellent, considering this was the very end of dry season.

The beach was wonderful and the beach bar and beach chair guys were great. Security was always ther to make sure the guests were not disturbed and comfortable. They had wonderful Cuban beach parties on Fridays with BBQ pork sandwiches mohito lessons and cuban coffee lessons. Then bring on the salsa lessons. We were very please with it all. The grounds were impecable and the manager was always there making sure that things were perfect.

      Great place BUT....
Okay. The hotel is older (I think it was another chain and Blau just bought it out?) so the rooms were typical of Cuba. Like I said above, the beds were terrible as were the pillows but everything was fine. Our housekeeper kept the rooms spotless every day. I forgot that you don't get tissues or face cloths in Cuba so we didn't have any of those and the towels were a bit rough but overall, the room was just fine.

      Amazing Vacation !!
The beach water was crystal clear turquoise water ! It was also very warm water ! There were a few small shells or coral on your way into the water but once past this small area the bottom of the water was very soft sand. It felt like you were swimming in a very very large swimming pool without all the chlorine. The snorkeling was also amazing right off the beach. The pool was kept very clean. We didn't swim very often in the pool as we just could not get enough of the beautiful turquoise waters in the Ocean. The grounds were kept very clean and the flowers and plants were awesome!
