The Meliá Las Américas Hotel, located in the world-famous beach resort of Varadero, is seven kilometers from downtown.
The establishment has a privileged location by the beach, very close to an 18-hole golf course, the largest in Cuba. The hotel is 35 kilometers from Juan Gualberto Gómez International Airport, and is an excellent place for congress and incentive tourism, weddings and honeymoons.
“Good, not great ”
An efficient check in on arrival and taken to our junior master suite bungalow. This was extremely spacious and clean though basic and tired around the edges.
A mixed bag of service. Our cleaner, Nancy, was really good and some good lobby bar staff. Japanese restaurant was very good and the buffet. The other restaurants were ok. Entertainment staff were really friendly and enthusiastic to ensure everyone enjoyed themselves though the agenda was very dated.
Disappointed the hotel feel the need to charge by the hour for (slow) wireless and the girls at the Internet desk were lethargic (at best) in terms of service and friendliness.
Queues at the beach bar were ridiculous. One bar attendant trying his best is simply not enough and the roaming waiter service on the beach was very hit and miss.
Cuba is behind the times in terms of technology and modernisation...that's understood. Though lack of consistent, high, friendly service cannot be justified at this hotel.
