      “Pleasant vacation at Sol Cayo Largo ”
      Just back from one week at the Sol Cayo Largo. I must say that Cayo Largo is ruggedly beautiful and the beach is awesome, even though the sand is very difficult to walk in because it is so soft and deep, you get a real work out here. The food - not the best we have had but we certainly did not go hungry. Desmin at the pasta bar is fabulous and Amed makes a mean omelette. The "A Team" in the buffet, Amarilis, Alionuska and Alexander will take real good care of you. Mario, Osmany and Nestor are awesome bartenders. Vetia kept our room spotless everyday. A special thank you to Jorge, we had a few challenges with reservations and he went above and beyond in solving the issues - thank you Jorge. We were in Bldg 36 and felt a little isolated, it seemed to be so far from everything. Ismael offered to move us to Bldg 25 and after giving it some thought and the hassle of moving, we declined his offer and stayed in 36. We did appreciate the offer and thank him for being concerned and wanting to make us happy. Ismael is the assistant manager is very visible at all times. All of his staff at the front desk are extremely polite and professional. The Beach - you really get a work out. If you do not have a lounger close to the beach bar, you are in for a long hike to get a drink. Fortunately we had a cooler bag and usually brought our own! It was nice to see the construction of a new walk way to the beach beside Bldg. 30 - all it needs at the end is another beach bar. We took the train to Sirena Beach, be prepared to jump off the train and run through the deep sand and hope you find a couple of crappy loungers. Not worth the trip to Sirena Beach. Paraiso Beach is more beautiful but the loungers are still crappy. The trip to the village to see the Turtle Sanctuary and the marina was worth it. We saw some huge fish and starfish around the marina. If the rumour is true that the Sol Cayo Largo may become adults only, they would have to do some upgrades such as - the bathroom was definitely well worn with very little water pressure, the lattice separating balconies needs to be replaced with something offering privacy. To sum it all up, the resort is clean, the pool is fantastic, the staff are awesome, at first it seems confusing but once you know the "lay of the land", it is easier to find your way around. Would we go back? Maybe one day, but not in the near future. There are too many other resorts we would like to visit first.

      “Finding a relaxing place for a holiday ”
      Cayo largo is a beautiful island off the main island of Cuba. it is quiet and friendly and is suitable to those that wish to have lost of water experience or just chill on a quiet sun drenched beach there are 4 restaurant that offer a simple yet healthy cuisine. the food is ample and not spicing so suitable for all tastes. It is not a singles swinging destination. the night life is fun where you can meet people from different countries. The staff is super pleasant . the patrons need to be more considerate of non smokers and not smoke in any eating areas. this made several of our meals very unpleasant. the beach is beautiful and one can walk for hours on warm white sands. the rooms are spacious and clean but in need of upkeep. obviously don,t drink the water from the pa and bottled water is supplied every day. it is a safe environment Great place for members of the LGBT community We just have to deal with ignorant tourists giving you unpleasant looks.

      Review about Sol Cayo Largo Hotel
      Very good Very good

      Good for the Sol The first time I visited the beautiful island of Cayo Largo was in 2010. I loved this island so much I have returned three more times since that date. My first three visits I stayed at Playa Blanca. My latest visit I had the pleasure to stay at The Sol. Playa Blanca had been going downhill with each subsequent visit so, when I saw a real good deal for the Sol, I jumped on the opportunity to go. I had just returned from fourteen days in Holguin two weeks previously so I was already tanned and still half packed. I had read nothing but good reviews on the Sol by repeat guests, and had walked through the grounds on a few occasions, so I was excited to go to this resort. It didn?t disappoint, especially since I only paid about $550 (all in) out of Toronto for the week. I was there from October 6th to October 13th. Arrived to light rain and overcast skies. Cleared customs rapidly and grabbed luggage that was already coming out on the carousel. I proceeded to the departure lounge side where I waited in line at the cadeca to change our money into cuc?s. The line was moving very slowly and the tour guide came in and announced the bus to the Sol was ready to leave so I ended up changing money at the front desk of the resort. One of the many things that are great in Cayo Largo is the fact that all of resorts are within approximately 5-8 minutes from the airport ---you don?t really even have the time to quaff a Cristal on your way. By the time we reached the Sol, the gods had parted the clouds and the sunny Cayo Largo that I had fallen in love with four years prior appeared. Check in was fairly rapid and we proceeded to our room (block 7 upper floor) which overlooked one of the two large saltwater, immaculately kept, pools. We also overlooked the Azul snack bar and swim up bar. This area turns into the Italian al la carte restaurant in the evening. This snack bar has good pizza and fries and good service at the tables. Our luggage arrived at the room within minutes and the two staff members lugged up our suitcases (do tip a peso or two). The room was nice with both a king-sized bed and a double. The ceiling was vaulted, giving the room an open feeling, and the sliding doors to the wrap around balcony are huge letting in a lot of light and facilitating a nice view. The air-conditioning worked very well and the carded safe comes with the room (no extra charge). Grabbed a quick bite at the Azul and had a few cold ones before we went exploring the grounds. The resort is well laid out and nothing is more than a 5 minute stroll away. We walked down to the beach which is one of the nicest stretches of fine white powder sand you could ask for anywhere. This was no surprise and is one of the reasons I have returned to Cayo Largo four times! The Ranchon overlooks the pristine beach and this is where we ate all of our lunches. There is always a buffet inside and always a bbq beside it which always had a tasty selection of fish, burgers, ribs, sausage, hot dogs and chicken. I was never disappointed in any of the food served at this resort and found it to be some of the best that I have had in over a dozen trips all over Cuba. There was always a band playing at the ranchon during lunch and they were entertaining (the odd peso thrown their way is appreciated). The breakfasts at the main buffet always had many choices and a guy playing an electric piano (quietly) every morning was a nice touch. We never did try any of the al la cartes as we found the buffet to be more than adequate for our less than bourgeois tastes. Let?s face it, not many of us go to Cuba for the stellar cuisine, we go for the beaches, weather and the Cuban peoples --- over the top hospitality. You will assuredly not lose weight at this resort and indubitably return a few pounds heftier. I cannot speak to the nightly entertainment as we did not catch one nightly show as we were catching zzzz?s after a hard day of suds, sand and surf by the time the bewitching hour of 10pm rolled around. The other guests conceded that the shows were what you would expect at any Cuban resort short of a Havana nightclub. We rented scooters for a day and toured the island which included a trip into town and a few cold ones at the marina. We stopped by my old ?alma mater?, Playa Blanca, and I was disappointed to see there was no beach left there. This changes from day to day but you never have to worry about the beach at the Sol. A no-brainer, whether you walk, run, stagger or take the free train, rent a scooter or jeep or cab it, is to visit the show-stopping beaches of Playa Paraiso and Playa Sirena. These beaches consistently make the top 20 lists of the best beaches in the world. All the watersports for the resorts on Cayo Largo are located here and I repeat --- they are a must see!! I damn near cried the first time I saw them. There is a bar and restaurant at Sirena and during the busier months you can get drinks on the beach for a couple of pesos --- believe me --- you do not want to walk back and forth on this very deep sanded beach. The dolphins are also here but I am of the mind that if people didn?t pay to see there wonderful and intelligent creatures then they would not be in captivity IMHO. I had done the catamaran tours on the first few trips so we didn?t bother this time but they are well worth it if you have not previously done so. The turtle sanctuary in town is worth the visit and if you are lucky enough to be on the island at the right time you can take in the release program on the beaches which is very cool. If you scooter or jeep a few kms past Playa Blanca the surf and the cliffs are well worth seeing. Cayo Largo is known for its tolerance of ?clothes optional? and ?gay friendliness? but these are ummm, never in your face and most guests respect this fact. The weather while we were there was great with only a few showers in the evening. I could ramble on and on indefinitely, on this very special Island, but will spare you all of the finer details. The Sol is the nicest resort on the Island and I would return in a heartbeat. The grounds are immaculate and the staff friendly. If anyone needs more deets or info, don?t hesitate to pm me. If you found this review helpful please hit the like button. I can?t wait to return to this resort or the Island and I know that the majority of peeps that travel here will fall in love with this truly special place. Happy safe travels. Kelly.

      “First Time in Cayo Largo! ”
      This resort and area was recommended to me by friends who have visited for many years. I joined them on their second week. I have been to Cuba before but this experience was far different from my other Cuba vacations. It's an Island so there are no homes there, no horse and carriages, no old Chevy cars, it certainly lacks that typical Cuban charm but again this is not mainland but rather an Island paradise! Sol a Cayo Largo is a beautiful resort with above average staff! I feel they send the best of the best to work there! The reception staff could be Improved on but most reception staff are usually the weakest in my opinion in Cuba...I was not at all impressed with the internet cards. The last one bought the night before I left never even worked! It's also very expensive so only buy cards if you really need to communicate with home, otherwise don't waste your time or money. Convenient to finally have wifi in Cuba but it needs to be improved on somehow. The resort was not overly busy still being the off season so it was nice to have the pool to ourselves most of the time. It is also huge and has two sections. I was even able to SUP in the pool! The animation team was excellent! What a group and they always had us smiling and having fun. There's a lovely spa on site and the massage is amazing! I went twice! I stayed in the 200 block by the pool, it was very convenient to go back and forth from my room. My biggest issue with this resort is something that they are doing as to not be eaten alive by mosquitoes but also something that is very toxic. Each evening they spray the resort and it makes you sick if you are sensitive to chemicals. Next time I would get a room closer to beach than pool for this very reason as they tend to spray the front of the resort more than the back. Bathrooms in my block need an upgrade, beds are pretty comfy though. Would definitely return and mid November is a great time to go! Sea was rough in front of hotel but there are other beauty beaches you can visit which are far calmer!

      “~~~ Nov 03-10th 2014 - :) ”
      ~~~ Our 1st time to Cayo Largo, Cuba. But this was our 12th time visiting Cuba. We stayed at the Sol Cayo Largo Hotel. We really enjoyed our stay. ~CHECK IN/OUT DESK ~ Our check in did not really go very smoothly. We were given a room on the far side of the resort and we just didnt want to stay on that side of the resort. We upgraded to a oceanview and paid $280.00 CUC ($40.peso per night). Our room was lovely. All staff at the check-in desk were very helpful, except for "Cecille". So just beware of her if you go to this hotel. She is not good at making guests feel welcome unless you are a repeat customer/guest. ~BEACH~ this hotel has the most beautiful beach ever. White, soft sand. Very clear, light blue water. Lots of palapas and loungers. And - a really good beach bar. ~ RESTAURANTS ~ All the restaurants have good food. There was a good variety. Each night you could eat something different. The chef at this hotel is very friendly. His name is Gaspar - I think- and he is always making his rounds checking up on the food in the buffet. ~ BARS ~ All the bars provided excellent service. The drinks were very good. The wine excellent. The beer very cold. And service with a smile . ~ HOTEL GROUNDS ~ The surrounding gardens are really well kept up. Gardiners were always visible - picking and grooming the flowers and bushes etc. trimming the coconuts off the trees etc. ~ POOL ~ The pool is very very nice. Very large and very clean. Very attractive. ~~~ ROOM ~ Our room was very clean. Very spacious. The negative points about the room are - not very good lighting. The lightbulbs did not light up the room at all. The other negative is - the deadbolt lock on our room did not work. And the last negative is - only 1 electrical outlet in the room. And it is 220Volt service so you definitely need an adapter for any electrical items such as a phone or camera charger. AC worked great. Nice & cold. ~ ROOM BALCONY ~ The balconies have wood lattice for dividers between the rooms. NO PRIVACY. The guests in the room beside us were nice enough, but every time we went onto our balcony they would come out and want to have conversation. We would have preferred our privacy. ~BUILDINGS ~ All the buildings that contained the guest rooms and other buildings around the resort are all painted such nice white and light powder colors. The hotel is really pretty. ~~~ We enjoyed our vacation at this destination & hotel and we will definitely return. The only other negative about this hotel is => the hotel workers need to know that the 1st language of Canada is ENGLISH not french. Canadians speak English. We were continuously being spoken to in Spanish because the hotel workers mistakenly believe all Canadians speak french. This became an annoyance for us. ~~~ Hope to see you soon Sol Cayo Largo :)
      “A week in paradise ”
      My wife and I came to the Sol Cayo Largo 10 years ago to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. We were simply amazed, Since then we have travelled to most of Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and Riviera Maya, along with a second time to Cayo Largo. All the places we visited were more than satisfying, but none came even close to the beaches in Cayo Largo, nor the friendliness or the professionalism of your staff. This year for our 35th anniversary we decided to come back for a third time. Once again we felt like spending a week in paradise. The complementary romantic lobster dinner was a very pleasant surprise that we were not expecting. Participating in the liberation of the baby turtles made us feel we did our share in your nature conservation program. Thank you Mr. Ismael for making dreams come true. We will definitely return.
      it is a paradise
      The resort is located on Cayo Largo del Sur, south of Cuba, in a spectacular natural environment with magnificent natural beaches surrounded by palm trees, coconut groves and beautiful coral reefs.
