70th Edition of the Ernest Hemingway International Marlin Fishing Tournament
The Ernest Hemingway International Marlin Fishing Tournament is the most important sport fishing tournament in Cuba and one of the most famous in the Caribbean area which attracts fishermen from different latitudes each year, attracted by fishing and by knowing the history and culture of the Cuban people.
The event, considered one of the most significant for lovers of sport fishing in the region, will celebrate its 70th edition from May 31 to June 5, 2021, the company Marlin, Náutica y Marinas announced on its Facebook page.
Organized by the Cuban Ministry of Tourism, the Cubasol Business Group and the Marlin, Náutica y Marinas Company, the Ernest Hemingway International Marlin Fishing Tournament encourages competition for the best catch of beak species, including castero (blue marlin), sailfish, Pacific marlin, under the tag and release mode so as not to damage any specimen.
The duration of the event is four days of fishing and one of rest where the champion decides by points based on the amount of marlin caught and released. Other species such as wahoo, dorado and tunidae also compete. The circular hook is mandatory while the thickness of the line cannot exceed 36 kg
The evaluation of the results is carried out by the jury of the Cuban Federation of Sport Fishing, which has previously certified the cameras with which the images of the species captured will be made before being returned to the sea. The photos must be taken together with a special sticker delivered to each boat and the captures must be informed by radio in order to record the time
The Ernest Hemingway International Marlin Fishing Tournament held its first edition in 1950. It owes its name to the famous writer, novelist and Nobel Prize winner for Literature (1954). It is the most important sport fishing tournament in Cuba and one of the most famous in the Caribbean area, which attracts fishermen from different latitudes each year.
