Varadero recognized as the second best beach in the world
Aradero, a tourist destination located in the western region of the Cuban archipelago, ranked second among the best beaches in the world, according to the Travelers' Choice 2022 Best of The Best selection, organized by the travel website TripAdvisor. In the ranking made up of 25 beaches in the world, Varadero is positioned behind Grace Bay in the Turks and Caicos Islands, and is seconded by Turquoise Bay in Australia.
“A postcard landscape. Fine sand and the bluest water I have ever seen in my life” praised a TripAdvisor user, while others distinguished the views, the climate and the facilities for family vacations along these 23 kilometers that extend over the peninsula of Hicacos, in the province of Matanzas.
Last year, Varadero -the main sun and beach destination in the Greater Antilles- was included in the list with position number 12, while in 2019 it also ranked second. Its beach zone reaches an average width of 22 meters of the sand strip, average height of the dune of one meter, and average bathing strip close to 30 meters. Plants such as the caleta grape, the hicaco, the wild avocado, the coastal guano, beans and beach rice, and typical species that include the coastal dog or coiled-tailed iguana, and numerous birds stand out among its landscape.
The resort has more than 50 hotel facilities and a capacity of more than 21,000 rooms, with a support infrastructure that offers the traveler gastronomic options, international marinas, tourist plazas, a golf course, the Plaza América Convention Center -headquarters of FITCuba 2022 in the coming month of May-, dolphinarium, nightlife and many other attractions.
TripAdvisor, the most important international travel and tourism website, released the Best of the Best 2022 list based on the number of comments and opinions from its users during the last 12 months. Founded in 2002, the Travelers' Choice Awards reflect "the best of the best" when it comes to customer service, quality and satisfaction, from hotels and accommodations to destinations, attractions and even brands and products.
