I have, from Bayamo, its soul intrepid and natural", wrote Cuban National Hero José Martí about this city from eastern Cuba. Founded by Adelantado Diego Velázquez with the name of San Salvador de Bayamo as the second village of the Spaniards in the island in 1513, this captivating city treasures a valuable historical patrimony. "Espejo de Paciencia", the first Cuban literary work, was written in this village; and here, also for the first time, was sung Bayamo Anthem on June 11th, 1868, which later
became our national anthem.
