The inn owes its name to a native of Valencia, Mr. Mariano Martí, father of José Martí, who used to visit the house during the colonial period. The unique historical and architectural value of the inn sparked the decision of the City Historiador Office, Eusebio Leal, to start a renovation scheme for the inn that would incorporate a program for tourist accommodations with gastronomy services and commercial outlets. The idea behind the project was to approach the traditions of Valencia through its culinary institution, the decoration of the inn with elements of ironwork, ceramic objects, photos and artistic engravings especially brought in from that region of Spain.

The Valencia , which is very close to Plaza de Armas (Armed Square) and the Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi, in Havana, promotes the culture and traditions from the Spanish region of Valencia. The establishment is housed in the former mansion of Alderman Sotolongo and was built in the late 18th century to be used as a residence. It is 20 kilometers away from José Martí International Airport. The establishment has wooden ceilings and banisters, and the beautiful iron-wrought railings, and benefits from its excellent location in Havana's historic heart.
