    “ups and downs ”
My family and I (2 adults, 30, 17 and 13 year old) went to Mayanabo the week of Feb 21, 2014 for one week. We got there later in the evening and went right to out room. The room was old, but clean. The patio door did not lock. We asked to move and we told the hotel was full and there was no way we could move. There was a huge group of Italian people who come to this resort every year and have for 15 years. Honestly I am not prejudice in any way but seriously some of these people we very rude. Because of this it made for some uncomfortable situations. The resort if very clean and well kept, the beach is nice but you would need water shoes for sure. The staff are friendly and helpful and the weather, well it was just fabulous! The food was not bad for Cuba. I have been 5 times and it wasn't all horrible. The al a carte was very good! We found that outside the resort the locals are pushy and try to sell you things and "lobster dinner" at their house. Lobster in Cuba isn't great as far as am I concerned so not worth any kind of money. Santa Lucia is a cute fishing town and it is very safe to travel throughout but just be prepared to get hounded by locals. There is a disco beside the Mayanabo so stay away from the 300 section if you can. It is very loud. The resort kinda grew on us as the week went on and it was a place we thought we would return to.....until the last day. We were almost going to check out and the maid went into out rooms and came running out to the pool area and confronted us telling us we stole 2 towels from our rooms. To make as long story short we ended up having to pay for 4 towels that went "missing!" We were left feeling extremely This was incredibly poor professionalism and left us with an extremely bad taste in our mouths. We tipped all week we were there and felt as though we were being treated like a second class citizen. The maid and her supervisor even threatened to call the police and have us charged with theft which eventually lead to us paying for the towels. I do hope this review helps and if you have any questions please feel free to ask. All in all quite disappointed with this place and will not be going back to that area ever!

    “Very poor”
I stayed at Mayanabo in November and was quite disappointed. It started with the maid stealing items from my room. I brought it to the attention of the front desk staff who simply shrugged. I then met with the manager to get things changed and, while she agreed, never informed the front desk to make the changes. This led to arguments at the front desk and insults from the baggage handlers!! Furthermore, while we were promised entertainment at night, we were informed, once there that we were too early in the fall season and they had failed to book any artists?? There are lots of nice staff working there and it's not their fault that there is a communication problem between management and staff however this should not be my problem. Caracol and Brisas are much better alternatives and often at the same price.
