Review about Sol Cayo Coco Hotel
      Poor Poor

“Not what we were expecting..... ”
Stayed for a week from 05.11.14-12.11.14 as part of a two weeks Classical Cuban Tours with Thomas Cook. My very honest opinion is if for someone beach is the main thing do NOT choose this hotel even if they offer two different beaches.....go to Cayo Guillermo coz the water is much nicer there. Our main issuie with the beach was that the sea-weed hasn't been cleared off from the sand and also still lots of sea-weed in the water so if you are a person who travelling for crystal clear water that is not at Sol Cayo Coco. ( In Mexico We have seen how workers cleared the sea-weed from the coast and water so it is not impossible). -ROOM:Our room was absolutely fine, clean, spacious, lots of wardrobe space, comfortable beds extra pllows....but emty fridge no beer, soft drink in the room or not even coffe making facilities jus if you PAY EXTRA for it do not really understand as an all inclusive package never seen anything like that before you only get a botlle of water in the room. - FOOD: Well till our third day everything was fine..actually I was telling to my partner do not understand what people are moaning about the food in this hotel.....and than my partner had a bowl of Fish soup for dinner and after that night he wasn't well,he had to see the Hotel Doctor and she said it is a food infection and gave to him drops...so after that my partner only could ate toast, plain pasta, pastry and fruits and of course no alcohol /not optional on an allinclusive holiday :( / all in all I think they offer a good choice but something is wrong with the quality that is for sure.... -STAFF: They are nice, working hard, always smile but I had the same experience in Mexico as well and I think all who working in the hospitality business or want to live from it that is how is it should be.... -ANIMATORS: Boring...I think if we should stay in this hotel for two weeks would bored ourselves to death.... I also need to mention that we had been advised that the hotel will going to close 1 side of the big pool as for maintenance whiile we will be there which is far enough no problem but no one mentioned a word that they are going to refurbish tha snack bar as well and basically what is happened that beacuse we went out every day to Pilar beach coz the hotel beach wasn't nice....when we came back to the hotel obviously the lunch was over but the dinner was till far away we only could have ham and chesee toastie......instead of pizza,chips,hot-dog hamburger what we ment to get from the snack bar..... So I am sorry but I would not recommend this hotel!

“best beach in cayo coco, staff wonderful!!! ”
Just returned from a last minute 2 week break here and I found it really good value for money, There is room for improvement but overall a good experience. My review is long but hopefully I can give you lots of tips so worth a read! FLIGHT We flew with Thomas cook from Manchester, if you have not booked seats together ensure you check-in early, (opens 4 hours prior), as many people pre-book and there were lots of people not sat together! The seats are narrow and in-flight entertainment is poor but very good leg room. TRANSFER Very quick! Only 15 mins from airport and check in done on coach which saves room upon arrival which we liked, rep provided lots of handy information too. HOTEL Amazing greeting upon arrival, never experienced such a warm welcome! All singing all dancing entertainment team and a rum punch-wonderful! Make sure you ask for 2 room keys at the desk as they only give you one unless you ask for a second. We gave a tip to the bell boy to deliver our cases to our room but I wish we hadn't, it took an hour to arrive which was annoying! The lobby bar is perfect with a real traditional Cuban feel to it, you just feel at home here! Of course the cocktail bar, la bodguita, helps! Big thumbs up to RODOLFO who makes quite literally THE best mojitos EVER!!! A lovely chap, always smiling and asking how we are! The rooms are spacious and beds huge! They do need a little refurb here and there but nothing that's major, we did have a few problems with our toilet leaking and not flushing properly which took 4 visits from the maintenance man to fix! Shower pressure is not the best either but like I say when you have a Caribbean beach to play on who cares about your room too much anyway?! BEACH The beach really is lovely, we took walks along both ends of the area and the sol really does home the best private beach, the others have lots of seaweed and the tide comes in so much in other places there is no sand left, for some reason the sol was never affected by this and they work hard to rake the sand each day to keep it looking beautiful! There is an adjoining public beach that guests can also use but we preferred the private one better, just personal preference but nice to have the option! One thing I was surprised no one had mentioned on here was that sea here has jellyfish in! Which of course is completely natural but I have just never experienced so many before! To be fair they are the little ones, I got stung 3 times and it was not really that painful I guess I was just shocked to see so many of them! Whilst we are on the subject of critters, the mozzies in cayo coco are quite bad, the area is uninhabited (all the workers are bused in) which makes for a completely natural environment with many areas of swamp lands which is what attracts the mozzies! Please do make sure you come prepared for this with creams and repellents if they bother you as you will get bitten! Please make sure you pack a snorkel! The snorkelling by the rocks was amazing! There is a huge shoal of fish and I am not exaggerating here but probably around 20,000 fish in one big shoal-awesome! Lovely to see the pelicans here hunting too. Well worth paying 15 pesos to go on a hobie cat to the reef to snorkel as the colours and variety of fish here is something to be rivalled! Make sure you choose a quiet day when the sea is calm. No need to bring beach shoes and the seabed is soft off the beach. Bring a banana to go snorkelling with to feed the fish, amazing! If you are spending the day by the beach pack a loo roll in your beach bag as the beach bar loos always ran out! Also worth paying 5 pesos to go to pilar beach on the open top bus it takes around 90 minutes but it doesn't feel like it as you get a tour of the island and get to see all the flamingoes in their natural habitat, and wow the beach!!!!!!! Gorgeous!!!! A must see trip! FOOD This is something to be improved on, I have visited Cuba before and it is well known that it does not offer the same choice and quality of foods as elsewhere you will find in the Caribbean due to food only being what they can produce locally but this hotel I believe could greatly improve in this area, the buffet is repetitive and not the best quality, you have to be creative to eat something different every day but we always managed and definitely did not go hungry. We also ate at the tryp down the road once, this is part of your all inclusive pass, and we found the food here much nicer but the atmosphere was not as nice as the sol! We also used our 2 passes to eat at the onsite restaurant but we found the food here worse than the buffet! Nice to dine somewhere different though! POOL Read a few reviews about water being 'dirty' which is rubbish! They clean the pools very well each day and the water was lovely. There is lots of activities going on to keep you entertained and a good choice of drinks at the bar. The pool was being refurbished in the middle of our stay which we were warned about by Thomas cook but we found this was done with absolute minimum disruption and section by section so you could still use part of it, the staff did really well to compensate by setting up a toastie station and bar as the pool bar was closed during this time, no troubles at all! Also no need to reserve loungers on pool or beach as there was always plenty of choice! STAFF Now this is what makes sol cayo coco special! I have never had such good service! The staff are wonderful with a warm welcoming personality that the Cuban people are known for. If you make a little effort to learn a little Spanish you will find that it is very much appreciated by the staff and they are all the more welcoming to you! Literally every single one was lovely always asking how we are what we were up to and smiling and friendly they couldn't do enough for you, all of them are shining stars! A few names that really stood out, YOISY, at breakfast and lunch was amazing! She always remembered our drinks order and had the most warm infectious lovely personality we will miss her! JUAN-YARIEL ,a student, was also wonderful at dinner in the evening. Always made an effort with us and taught us a little Spanish each day which we liked, always topping up our drinks and quick to clear our tables and placing lovely little flowers as centrepieces in the evening really special little touches! Please keep him on LUIS! He deserves it he really made our stay special! LUIS like all the reviews say probably the best hotel manger! Always working hard and saying hello to all his guests and supervising the staff very polite and seemed to have a very good rapport with his employees! all the staff sung his praises and he is obviously a well liked chap! All in all don't go expecting 5 star luxury and food, but do go expecting 5 star service! Its the staff that make this hotel shine. The beach is awesome, the cocktails are flowing and the entertainment team put on a good evening show (if you are here for 2 weeks you will get to see the ciegio de avila ballet perform here once, do not miss this show! you will be amazed!) so really it makes for a good value trip and you are made to feel right at home from day 1! The staff work hard to ensure your happiness and they really are the heart of the sol cayo coco. muchos gracias to all the team and hasta la vista!

“Great Value for the Money!!! ”
This was our second time visiting Sol Cayo Coco, the first time being January 2014. It's a small resort that has everything needed for a relaxing vacation. The grounds and rooms are clean, the food is plentiful, and the beaches are gorgeous! The best feature of this resort is the staff! They are so friendly, helpful and willing to do anything to make your stay enjoyable. Yes, the resort and rooms are a bit dated and the food was basic, but who cares? The view from our room was fantastic! Our trip was very affordable and, because of this, we were able to visit twice in one year instead of blowing our budget on only one vacation. We will definitely be returning as we find it a great value for the money. The main drawback we found is that there isn't much to do if you're looking for an adventurous time. It's best for a laid back, relaxing time to recharge your batteries.

“Travelled from Nov. 21st to Nov 28th, 2014”
This truly is a quaint resort...smaller, which I loved. Last minute vacation with my sister and her husband. 15 minute bus ride, rooms ready and clean. Beautiful beach (2 beaches) spent most of our time at the "public" beach which we thought was more private, clean, crystal clear water, mangroves, beach bar! Fun to see later in the day the tide go out. Amazing staff, Blanca and Aisal at the main restaurant, and Orlando is the best, most personable bartender ever at the snack bar! Did not do the specialty restaurants, quite enjoyed the main. Again food was good, for the most part lots to choose from, and always a smiling face with a big hello! Met alot of people that continue to return to this resort. Took at beautiful 1954 Chev Belair cab to the market, and another day, paid $5 pesos to take the double decker bus to go to Sol Cayo Guillermo, spent the morning on the beach...beautiful! and had lunch..bigger resort, then continued to Piller Beach...sand is like talcum powder, and the water...wow, crystal clear (was cloudy when we went so did not stay). All in all we loved this resort and would recommend to anyone. Oh mosquitos....never had an issue....but lots of the other resorts did :)

“We always love this resort & our Cuban friends ”
We think this was about our 15th visit. This small resort meets all our requirements. Everything is centrally located. Rooms are clean & spacious. Buffet food is satisfactory. Specialty restaurants are intimate & peaceful. Regardless of where you are, their is a bar within view for drinks or snacks. Majority of guests appear to be seniors or families with small children. You can pick from several out trips if you want adventure. If you prefer relaxation and reading, this is perfect. The staff are friendly, pleasant & courteous. If there are complaints, remember this is Cuba and the luxuries/amenities of home are not readily available. But the staff will do everything in their power to help as best they can. We can't say enough good things about Sol Cayo Coco.

      “fantastic again ”
Had another fantastic holiday at the sol Cayo coco. This was our third time at the resort can,t fault it. A special thank you goes out to the entertainment staff especially Jordie, mukka, and Shakey bum. They were great always smiling and had time to chat to everyone nothing was a problem.Orlando was absolutely great as usual when he is about your glass is never empty . The waitress in the outside restuarant who worked breakfast and lunch was great she always knew what you wanted and had a welcoming smile. Food although improving, still has a long way to go but you won't go hungry . Lobby bar nice and relaxing service not bad depending who was on duty watch out for mosquito's here. The two bell boy,s Henry and his mate (sorry can,t pronounce his name) and reception staff can,t do enough for you they are great. Hector the rep gets a big thumbs up nothing is to much for him any problems are sorted. Luis the manager always around always pleasant and takes time to say hello always watching to make sure everything is running okay. However down side was Thomas Cook sent us a email saying pool would be shut for two to three days but never told us pool bar and grill would be shut and filed to pieces as this is where we spend a lot of our time which caused a lot of dust banging and mosquito's coming out of the roofing materials that they were pulling off. This was not the hotels fault it was Thomas Cook for not informing there customers properly. But hay ho that's life see you all there next year same time. Booking for next year with family and friends

      Excelent
The Sol Cayo Coco Hotel, which is part of the tourist infrastructure of Jardines del Rey (King's Gardens), is surrounded by exuberant vegetation and is very close to a beach of white, fine sand. Cayo Coco, in the north of eastern Ciego de Avila province, is a breathtaking destination that is considered an ecological paradise, due to the great variety of plant and animal species, mainly flamingos. The hotel is close to Las Coloradas and Larga beaches, and to the world's second largest coral reef.
