La Plaza Mayor, in the Historical Centre of Trinidad captivates everybody for the Terpsicore sculpture, the dance muse, the white railings with delicate filigrees, the elegant Royal Palms trees and two greyhound guardians. It is considered the second most significant square in the country, after Cathedral Square in Havana. In 1657, it was restored by the inhabitants, and became the main place for religious processions, patron saint festivities, promenades and commerce. In March 26, it was arranged with out and in-railings. In 1868, two cisterns were built. To finance the restoration of the square, a lottery game with gold ounces per card was foreseen. Thanks to the profits obtained, the current railing was manufactured in Philadelphia. The name of the square is to honor the Governor Serrano, who sponsored its construction. It's surrounded by the most luxury mansions of the city such as the Palace of Count Brunet, today the Romantic Museum When the German scholar Alexander von Humboldt—who visited the locality in 1801— walked around the Square, he said that Instead of having railings was having walls of flowered myrtles."

Review about Squares: Plaza Mayor Square
Excellent Iones

Plaza Mayor
The heart of the old city of Trinidad (the Casco Historico) is its central square, the Plaza Mayor. The square is surrounded on all sides by the town's most spectacular colonial buildings. These serve as a monument to the vast riches of the town, which was founded on the sugar and slave trades. Shady benches, small coffee houses and friendly bars make this a meeting place for both locals and visitors alike. One of the Plaza Mayor's biggest attractions is the Museo Historico Municipal, while other worthy highlights include the Museo Romantico, the Museo de Arquitectura Trinitaria, the Museo de Arqueologia Guamuhaya and the Iglesia Parroquial de la Santisima.

Trinidad Cuba
The picturesque Cuban town of Trinidad lies on the south-central coast in glorious countryside and is, together with the nearby Valle de Los Ingenios, a UNESCO World Heritage site famed for its unspoiled historic centre, which is now a major year-round tourist draw. Although the town's main industry is tobacco, tourism plays a major part in its economy, with people coming to admire this charming Spanish colonial settlement and its well-preserved character. Visitors to Trinidad de Cuba arrive for the famous historic and heritage sites in the compact old town, and stay for the beautiful beaches, the unique laid-back colonial ambience and the friendly, welcoming local people. Although some parts of town, even in its centre, are run down and somewhat decrepit, Trinidad has become one of the most popular visitor destinations on the island. Local tourist information can be accessed at the various travel agencies around town, such as Cubatur on the Calle Antonio Maceo, Havanatur on the Calle Simon Bolivar and Infotur on the Plaza de Santa Ana.
