  • Description Cabaret: Tropicana, Havana . Cuba

Opened in 1931 the Tropicana has played host to Benny Moré, Nat King Cole, Jack Nicholson and 'Lucky' Lucian and many, many more. This is a Vegas-style extravaganza with seating for 1,400 people and 10 performers going through the full range of popular Cuban dance. As you'd expect the dancers are beautiful and the costumes, choreography and routines are excellent, but the food is poor, the show lasts forever and it is seething with tourists. A recent revamp seems to have changed everything and nothing with the basic formula remaining as it has been for years

  • Tropicana is located in Havana
  • Capital of Cuba and the country's administrative, political, cultural and scientific center, it is also the capital of two provinces: City of Havana and Havana. Though only around 280 square miles (727 square kilometers) in size-0.65 percent of the archipelago's total area.

The Old Havana and system of forts led UNESCO to declare it a part of world heritage in 1982. Founded on its present site in 1519, the settlement of San Cristobal de La Habana prospered mainly due to its bay, which was a natural port of call for ships sailing to and from the New World. Starting in 1634, because of its strategic location, San Cristobal de La Habana was considered the key to the New World-as attested to by royal letters patent-and the main defense of the West Indies.

The Cuban capital consists of an immense number of buildings in a wide range of architectural styles, built in the course of nearly five centuries. These styles range from the pre-baroque to the baroque, neo-Gothic, neoclassical, eclectic, art noveau and art-deco, to the modern.

Alejo Carpentier, one of Cuba's most famous authors, called it "the city of columns" and focused attention on its streets, which he considered a perennially rich show of life, humanity and contrasts that was bound to entertain any observer.

Over 14 kilometers of excellent beaches lie to the east of the Cuban capital. To the south, a green belt contributes to a healthful atmosphere.

Nothing outdazzles the floorshow at this world-famous outdoor nightclub. Gorgeously costumed dancers salsa to the spirited live music performed by some of the finest Cuban orchestras.

    Tropicana
It's spectacular and expensive (we paid 75 USD each and got a cola, 0.5 l rum, tapas and a little bottle of sparkling wine). I'm happy I've seen it, but once is enough. It's possible to have dinner before the show in an elegant restaurant with live piano music. The food is nothing special, as usually.

    Tropicana: After the show
Tickets vary in price depending on how close to stage you are, rum included! Also often after the show they lower the stage and have a dance band play.

    Tropicana Cabaret
If you're going to Havana, you should go and enjoy cabaret culture. The dancers wear luxurious and gorgeous costumes. You will be satisfied with Latin jazz.
