Named after Juan Bautista Taberna, its former owner, the Cafe de Taberna opened on this very corner around 1772, to become the first cafe in Havana. The Cafe reopens in 1999, now recreating the atmosphere of the 1950s, where the music of Benny More "The King of Rhythm" captivates its spaces. The restaurant serves excellent coffee and a wide variety of cocktails and dishes from the international cuisine, among them Taberna Chicken and Salad. Musical groups playing traditional Cuban music and a guest dance couple show off the frenetical Caribbean rhythm and pay tribute to our top son singer. For this reason, people are now calling it the place of "Benny's Friends".his friends of yesteryear, today, his everyday friends.

  • Cafe Taberna is located in Havana
  • Capital of Cuba and the country's administrative, political, cultural and scientific center, it is also the capital of two provinces: City of Havana and Havana. Though only around 280 square miles (727 square kilometers) in size-0.65 percent of the archipelago's total area.

The Old Havana and system of forts led UNESCO to declare it a part of world heritage in 1982. Founded on its present site in 1519, the settlement of San Cristobal de La Habana prospered mainly due to its bay, which was a natural port of call for ships sailing to and from the New World. Starting in 1634, because of its strategic location, San Cristobal de La Habana was considered the key to the New World-as attested to by royal letters patent-and the main defense of the West Indies.

The Cuban capital consists of an immense number of buildings in a wide range of architectural styles, built in the course of nearly five centuries. These styles range from the pre-baroque to the baroque, neo-Gothic, neoclassical, eclectic, art noveau and art-deco, to the modern.

Alejo Carpentier, one of Cuba's most famous authors, called it "the city of columns" and focused attention on its streets, which he considered a perennially rich show of life, humanity and contrasts that was bound to entertain any observer.

Over 14 kilometers of excellent beaches lie to the east of the Cuban capital. To the south, a green belt contributes to a healthful atmosphere.

Its seashore nature made Havana city a place of maritime traffic, coming from the most diverse places. The cradle of the galleons fleet which transport the wealth from America to Spain. The Mesón de la Flota (The Tavern of the Fleet), is loyal to its maritime spirit, a restaurant placed in the ground floor of the hostelry under the same name, and placed near the bay and the Old Square. This restaurant evokes the traditional Spanish taverns of the colonial times. The decoration is closely related to the sea, it is a mixture, including sailing symbols, small reproductions of old vessels and flags of the maritime code of signals. The clients who choose this place will taste an ample variety of wines from different countries, and a selection of delicious Spanish tapas, beside the option of different cold and hot appetizers, main dishes with salads and Creole and Spanish desserts. It’s also relevant for its live shows of flamenco music, which make more enjoyable the time of the visitor with singings and dances, of the best style of that culture.

Located on the corner of Plaza Vieja this restaurant is dedicated to the revered musician Benny Moré. The band, memorabilia and general decor create a lively and popular atmosphere which makes it a good option if you like his music. The food is pretty average with the house speciality of lobster and shrimps typically overpriced and upsold.
