The Carlos de la Torre y Huerta Museum of Natural History of Holguín occupies the premises of the former Spanish Colony, a bourgeois recreational society, initially founded to bring together Spaniards residing in Cuba or their descendants. The building was inaugurated on December 8, 1926, undergoing modifications to its internal structure such as the expansion of the ballrooms and the construction of a small warehouse on the roof.

In over 25 miles (40 kilometers), the northern coastline of Holguín has 41 beaches. Guardalavaca and Esmeralda are the most popular beaches among foreign tourists.
